Chapter 91 - The Robot is Behaving Strangely

Nathan wore a glove in his hands, which was apparently the remote controller of the robot. He glanced at James and smiled. "Power on Mike," he said, and the robot's LED light on its chest lit up, and the robot stood straight.

The class had already seen other unique inventions before Henry's, but they haven't seen a voice-activated kind. The class oohed and aahed, causing Nathans head to swell.

Nathan, who was already feeling on top of the world continued commanding his robot. "Mike, can you tell us what gravity is please," Nathan said while staring at the class. The robot waited for two seconds before giving a detailed explanation of the question. This amazed the whole class.

While the class was enjoying the demonstration, James noticed something was amiss. First, he noticed that the laser that was mounted at the robot's shoulder appeared to be real. James has seen this type of laser on a YouTube channel, where a guy was using this dangerous tool to cut papers, bread, and other soft-related objects.

Then second, the robot was behaving strangely. It was acting like it was about to glitch at any moment. When Nathan asked a question, the light on the body would blink once, indicating that it was busy. However when it finished answering the question, his right leg would jitter a little bit, and the light would repeatedly blink.

If Nathan had not noticed it, it would only mean that he wasn't the one that built it. Apparently, he had paid someone to help him with the project. James could even distinctly see a manual on the package.

"Uhm, sorry teacher, I want to ask Nathan one question. Nathan, were you the one that built it?" James asked sceptically. Nathan's eye twitched a little. "What do you mean by that? I clearly built this robot, otherwise, how would I have known how to control it?" Nathan said with hate in his words.

James remained unperturbed. "I was just asking because with what I'm seeing, the robot was behaving strangely. It's obvious the circuitry was not made properly. If it was you that did it, you should have realized the problem now." James slowed down his last words when Nathan was giving him the stare that might kill him if it could.

'Ignore him, class. I was just about to show you the coolest thing that this robot can do. You see that picture of Donald Trump, I'll tell the robot to target it, and it would do just that accurately."

That's definitely not a good idea, James thought. "Uhh, Nathan, are you sure about this, if it actua…." Nathan interrupted James with anger. "Can you shut the f**k up? If my glorious invention is making you uncomfortable, why don't you sit the hell down?" Nathan fumed with rage.

"Alright Nathan, mind your language. I think that's enough of the demonstration. You've used up much time. Go and sit down, and let's compare James and Ana's own project", the teacher said calmly, but Nathan was not ready to go.

"Teacher, hold on. I still have one trick I want to show to the class. Mike, target Donald Trump image and fire." Nathan said with passion. "Wait, what do you mean by fire?" the teacher could not complete the question as the robot noisily ran towards the direction where the picture was hung and did a basic summersault, then posed a shooting stance.

"Nathan, is that laser fake? The teacher asked alarmed. Obviously, she has seen that the laser appeared real to her. James approached Ana and whispered one word to her. "Duck". Ana did not understand why James has said that, but with what James had told Nathan about the robot's instability, she immediately bent down and covered her head with her hands.

Right after Ana had ducked, a laser-firing sound was heard, then a crisp sound of burning paper followed after. It was now that Nathan realized that something was wrong. 'Nathan, turn the robot off immediately." The teacher shouted as she tried to protect herself from stray laser beams. By this time, the rest of the students in the class had bent down and hidden under their tables.

"Mike, call strike off, call strike-off…" Nathan repeated the phrases in desperation, but the robot did not follow his orders. "Cinnamon is a fruit, that… that… insufficient amount…. Is a …. Ingredient…" the robot kept saying unintelligible words as it rolled around and fire the beam to the walls of the classroom, shredding calendars and pictures.

Nathan was very scared at what was happening, so he immediately headed for the classroom's exit without taking responsibility for the disaster he was actively causing.

It was now that James had enough. Under the table he was hiding from, James brought out his smartphone and browsed to the Wi-Fi settings. Thankfully, the robot was also equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, which was another addition to controlling it wirelessly.

Right after he connected to the robot's hotspot, he opened a terminal window and typed a single command. Right after he pressed enter, the laser beaming sound stopped, and the robot dropped to the ground like a lifeless object.

Seeing that it was over, the teacher got up from under the table and surveyed the surroundings. The class was already a total mess, with shredded paper scattered around, and black lines on the wall formed by the beams.

"James, were you the one that stopped it?" the teacher said, still apprehensive. "Yes, teacher. I simply connected to the robot's Wi-Fi and typed the shutdown button, that was all." James shrugged.

He did not think it was that much of a big deal. If the death robot was not equipped with Wi-Fi, the situation will be different from now.

"Well, you did well. Take that thing out of this class and make sure that the battery is removed, do you understand?" The teacher said to James, slightly traumatized at what happened moments ago.

"Yes, teacher" James nodded and approached the now lifeless robot and examine it. "No, don't do that here. Take it outside, far away from here and dispose of it. I am going to punish that rascal" the female teacher said with anger.
