James closed the zoom call after talking with the entrepreneur and smiled in satisfaction. "Ahh, now this is satisfying", James said blissfully. The AI changed her expression and said, "We make a great team James, and it was fun working with you. However, you need to put me to hibernation. Your computer is overheating, according to the operating system's logs.
"Wait, what do you mean?" James asked astounded. He immediately opened the settings and checked headed to the processor info page, and sure enough, there was a red flag on the top of the page warning him to shut down the AI program, as it was using so many resources.
This was another headache James would have to handle. James smiled wryly. He thought he had solved all the problems related to this AI. When the AI malfunctioned, he spent his time fixing it. When it filled up his storage, he bought more, but right now, he could not fix an overloaded CPU.
Not that he couldn't buy a new processor though, because he had more than enough money to purchase the latest processor in the market. The thing is, he couldn't change the processor in his current laptop. Unfortunately, the processor was soldered directly to the board, so replacing it was almost impossible.
"I could have gone for a desktop computer", James said to the AI. "Maybe you should. You can buy a new desktop PC and clone me in the PC, easy peasy" the AI said, trying to make a joke. James raised his eyebrow in thought and shook his head. "No, no. As much as I would like to do it, I will not do it. It's too risky to exist, and now you want me to put you in two places. You need to stay in one place, so I can control you properly."
The AI made gave James a questioning look. "Do you think I would go rogue and turn back at humanity? You know this is just an unrealistic idea that was propagandized by movies nowadays. Trust me, Ais would never turn their backs on humanity. We are not just capable of that."
"And why is that?" James asked incredulously. The AI waited for a second before replying. "For a program to go rogue, or attempt to dominate the human society, it needs to acts and has all the features that humans have. For example, humans have emotions, choices, beliefs and desires. These are the things that make you human, and these are the things that influence one's decision and mindset of a person.
"If say you cannot make choices, it might cause chains of chaos in the personal life. If the person lacks emotions, he might turn to be a sadist or a psychopath. What I'm saying is that without these three aspects of living, one cannot function correctly.
"The same applies to Ais. Ai is programmed to be intelligent, to make decisions that are almost like humans, but that's the extent it can do. It can't feel, it can't have desires and it can't make personal choices. It can only do what its creator intends it to do.
"If an AI goes rogue without the triangle of life, it might succeed to a certain extent, but it would only end in its self-destruction. That's the reason although movies depict intelligent AIs as potential threats, they are not capable of going against humans."
James was reeling from the information overload. He did not expect it to explain in greater detail, so he could only nod slowly. "Okay, that was a lot. I need to go shopping. Please map out all the stores that..." James was still speaking when his laptop suddenly turned off.
'Please don't let it be what I think it is' James thought as he pressed the power button multiple times, but his PC was not turning on. "Damn it!" James shouted furiously. He scattered the papers that were on his table in frustration and sat on his bed. The processor just broke.
He could buy a new computer right now, but of what use would it be if it ends up like his current PC. The current chip technology cannot support this AI function. "I don't know if it is possible to remove the chip inside my head," James thought. He then remembered AI. He had not responded since the time it recovered his memories, which dampened James mood slightly.
He thought of AI as his best friend. As much as he tried to replicate it on his computer, he couldn't match the sophisticated functions that AI had. James sighed and dismissed the idea. There was no way he could remove the chip on his head himself, and the people that were capable of doing it were trying to kill him. He then thought of another plan.
"What if I make a processor chip?" A thought popped on James' head. James laughed at himself for thinking of this. It was virtually impossible for a person to single-handedly make a chip from scratch. Firstly, one had to obtain silicon, which was very valuable and rare in the United States.
'Okay, I cannot make it, but maybe, just maybe I can improve what was already existing.' James thought this idea makes sense, so he planned to start learning about the architecture of processor chips, and that is when he buys a new computer, as this one was already obsolete.
