Chapter 78 - You Bumped Me

James would not accept spending a second with this guy, so he glared at him angrily, an emotion he had not exercised in a long time. "Look, John, or whoever you are, stay away from me. You are stirring bad memories here alright, so please just leave."

John was not too deterred at his attitude. He quickly tore a piece of paper and wrote his Twitch username and handed it to James, who took it immediately and ordered a cab and climbed into. "Alright, I'm sorry, but take this, we will chat later", the boy said over the window, but James ignored him.

When he arrived home, he paid for the cab and headed to the house. Arriving at his room, he immediately woke the laptop from hibernation and brought out the SSDs to plug into his PC.

Then his PC began warning him of low space. James looked at his screen curiously. 'Apparently, this thing is still expanding', he thought. He checked the available space of his PC and was genuinely surprised. "0 bytes? It took them all!" James was astounded, so he immediately connected all the SSDs he bought and plugged them into his PC. As soon as his PC detected new storage, it prompt him if the OS could format it as additional storage, which James immediately clicked yes.

As soon as the SSDs were merged to his laptop storage, new project files began popping up on the SSDs. "Wow! I thought this thing would use up to a few gigabytes. I never knew it would take up a big amount of space", James thought as he launched the AI program.

Earlier, James had added a few codes to the AI's database to reduce the latency between requesting and receiving, and now James can talk to this entity like a normal human.

"Hi AI" James spoke to his headphone microphone, and the AI immediately replied. "Hi James, how are you doing today? Hmm, I detected a new external device. It's estimated to… 180TB. I'm sorry if it was my program that took a lot of your device's space.

James could not shake off the surprise from his face. "Wow, just…wow. Is there still even a need to continue programming you?" James asked, as he could not even see any reason to continue writing this AI anymore, because apparently, it can write itself.

"Yes, James. I might be learning and recreating new algorithms for myself, but all of them are based on the source code you wrote yourself, and so if you stopped writing me, there would be a limit on how I fully operate, resulting in me being almost obsolete."

James nodded slowly "Alright, alright," he said. He smiled and appeared content. "Alright, so what new stuffs can you do?" The AI-first appeared confused, before smiling. "Oh, you mean what new tasks I can accomplish. Well, I can do almost, anything, as far it's in my capabilities.

'For example, I can complete an entire novel just by the topic you pick, and I can learn how to play chess like a pro. I know how to locate and filter search results more accurately than Google itself, and can write an entire program for you, as far as you feed me the necessary information, and so much more."

James nodded smiling. "Alright now, this is what I'm talking about." He then stood up and headed to his door, before remembering something. "Oh, I almost forgot! Speaking of coding, I was about to freelance in about thirty minutes from now, are you going to assist me?" James asked expectantly. "What kind of program?" the AI asked, mimicking James expectant face.

"Any programs, but I prioritize mobile gaming more to desktop applications, and also web designs, which I'll do myself. I hope you are down for that?" James asked.

"Down with what? Oh, you mean if I was okay with that. Sure, I will. Twenty-nine and fifty-eight minutes more." James smiled happily and left his room.

Jesus, I just created a very intelligent entity, James wondered in his mind as he headed to the dining section of the room. The responsibility of owning this AI was huge. If this thing went to the wrong hands, it would spell disaster. The power that person would have would be almost endless.

The person can infiltrate into governments servers, hack into social media platforms and impersonate elites, politicians, and more people with just a single click of a button, a person can start a war between countries. The possibilities are almost endless.

But James had no interest in these things at all. He wrote the AI because he wanted to have a friend, a reliable one for that matter. He had lost all interest in humanity. 'Humans are not reliable, one time they would appear like saints, the next second they morph into monsters.'

James would say sometimes. Why would he not think of that? His family died because of them, his mom's sister despised him, and some tech company miles away are finding him to kill him. If it was anybody, they would turn psychos, but James was different. He sought ways to solve his problems.

The AI was just one of the many things he wanted to do before he died. He wanted to invent things, improve the existing inventions, and travel across the universe. This was not impossible for him, as far as he's alive and kicking, he would make sure it came to reality.

As James was still pondering in his mind, he bumped into someone, bringing him back to reality. "What are you thinking about idiot?" Josh hollered angrily as he proceeded to pick up his console that fell to the ground. "Great, now I was killed. Thanks a lot, James", Josh hollered and eyed James with cold eyes.

"If it was anybody who should watch your front, it's you, bro. You were playing games, oblivious of what is happening around you. You bumped to me, not the other way around", James explained. Josh stared at him and sneered.

"Oh no, no, no James, please, do not ever call me 'bro', never. But that's not the point. I just want to warn you to stay away from my friends and stick to yours. Why should you ruin my life just as you ruined your family's own? Huh"
