Otto had never heard of an unknown complete class set before, but judging from the reactions of both Lieutenant Gavin and inventor Lukas it must be good.
"Seven sets even a mythical rank has a maximum of five for attack, defense, mobility and boosting stats, never have I heard of 7 sets and this unknown class must be powerful enough to even be on par or maybe surpass mythical ranks, it won't be difficult to store weapons of legendary and mythical rank in your grimoire weapon slots to help nourish your them, and even repair them with your mana with the help of your grimoire given that they're not severely damaged,"
Lukas passed 4 bottled elixirs saying will help increase his stats, one to help with mana increase and another for stamina followed my health recovery and last one for vitality.
He asked Otto, that when he finished and survives his military training to come to his lab to do some tests with added benefits of course.
"Kid I don't know what your goals are but seeing that you use a fire vein in one of your elemental grimoire core sockets try getting a beast core for wielding flames and try out being an inventor," said Lukas with a sly grin.
Otto looked at his face and knew his plan instantly, "Do you want me as an apprentice?" he said with a raised eyebrow.
"Mmm yes," said Lukas without hesitation.
"I am a legendary class appraiser and a legendary class inventor so I can tell you I can teach you a lot if you decide to become an inventor and come to my Demon slaughter military faction," Said Lukas stroking his beard.
Otto did not put much thought on his career but if he did, he would choose one that will help him with ways to cure his uncle.
"Can you say that if I choose to be an inventor there will be a way to cure someone who experienced a failed evolution?" said Otto staring hopefully at Lukas's old wrinkled face.
A wide eyed expression of surprise surfaced on the old inventor, then to admiration and finally pity 'So he has chosen one of the most difficult problems faced by all careers, it would be a pity if he gets lost in the abyss of finding a cure like how so many geniuses turned into madmen and died,' thought Lukas with an emotional sigh.
'Should I try to stop him' he thought staring hesitantly at Otto.
Seeing the expression on Lukas's face, Otto sighed inwardly, 'As I expected this won't be an easy matter.' Thought Otto.
"Never mind Professor Lukas. I will think about this once I get home," said Otto walking away towards the door.
"Wait! Don't be in a hurry yet, tell me your thoughts on what career you want to choose, I can give you some advice since I'm already old and experienced," said Lukas.
Otto turned back and became dazed for a moment, then nodded his head showing his willingness.
"Before I came here I wanted to know the elemental veins I had first then analyze the most hopeful careers first, and since I have a fire vein I think alchemy might be the best option since it deals making healing elixirs," said Otto with a resolute calm tone his purple eyes holding a deep determination.
'This kid is dead serious,' thought Inventor Lukas as he pondered on ways to at least show the kid the greatness of being an inventor as well.
'Aha,' a light bulb appeared on the old man's head "Kid I get where you are coming from but as much as alchemy looks like the logical way, their ways are too stuck up to help you come up with a way to solve your issue.
You should already know that a person who has failed an evolution is set to live with the after effects if they do not die from the body morphing phenomena and alchemy deals with traditional combination of natures plants, animals and other compounds like some precious ores," said the old man.
Otto had only heard of the wonders of alchemy from people, but this was the first time he got such a detailed explanation of what is deeply involved in it.
Seeing how much the kid paid so much attention made Lukas even more determined to rope the boy into the career of inventors.
"But even if you have all these natural material what if there just isn't one that can help with that problem?" said Lukas with a serious tone, his posture like a great scholarly debater.
Otto became lost and speechless for awhile and then shrugged saying "I don't know."
"Exactly it has been over 2000 years since the 7 calamities that brought the demon monsters from another dimension. And 500 years ago a feat that other careers like alchemy could not accomplish was done by us inventors, we managed to create the grimoires, made human hybrids to give ourselves a fighting chance against the demonic calamity monsters and post calamity beasts that adapted to the introduction of mana to Bethania," said Lukas.
Who did not know of the creative out of the box thinking and the risks inventors take to discover new solutions to a problem, they are seen as fearless and any military faction wanted their technology that has been proven to be extremely useful.
Otto remained quiet and then after a moment came to an understanding, "Since grimoires are inventor technology, then I think they can also find a solution for defectors of the evolution process." Said Otto tapping his chin.
A wide grin appeared on Lukas, " That is right hybrid humans and grimoires are close links. If you want to not be restrained by only finding solutions in natures resources, you can also look at the genetic aspect and invent technology to treat those with evolution failure, it won't be easy as this is a side effect that has been present since the making of grimoires but as an inventor I believe there is no problem that can't be solved, as long as time is on your side." Said Lukas patting Otto on the shoulder.
"Ahem!" Lieutenant Gavin who had been listening all this time gave a mocking look at Lukas's shamelessness to pluck a seedling before it went to the world, but what could he do to a legendary class inventor who held more power and status than him.
"Okay sir I think the boy will think carefully after your splendid advice, let's allow him to go back and prepare and settle matters before he lives this village," said Lieutenant Gavin.
Lukas also nodded "Yes, yes you should go. And also tell me one of the weapons needed in your slot and as Iong as I am able to, I will give it to you," said Lukas with a smile.
Gavin inwardly spat out blood listening to this, 'Plain bribery,' he thought.
Otto calmly saw the old man's face holding the desire to have him no matter what, and since he wasn't using any aggressive ways and said it as a way to repay him for activating his dormant invention to not make him owe him, how could Otto refuse.
Thinking carefully, Otto looked at Lieutenant Gavin, "Can I get some advice?"
Gavin smiled and understood immediately, "Sly kid, are trying to get some hints of the training awaiting you after 3 days?"
Otto nodded without any shame.
Lieutenant Gavin made a thumbs up "Haha very good, I like the honesty, get a weapon and make sure to practice some skills before you leave," said Gavin.
Otto's expression brightened up and he immediately asked for a Claymore.
"Claymore? Let me see if my storage dimension page has something," said Lukas activating his grimoire and opening it wide suspended in mid-air.
The scent of burned beast skin, ores and pages mixed with each other assaulted Otto's nose.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
The pages turned till they abruptly stopped half way on the giant book.
All this took only but a moment.
"There it is, come out,"
Woosh! Shiiiing!
Blazing heat waves escaped from the open grimoire and slowly a small skeleton head rose up followed by a long leather handle connected to a thick brown scabbard measuring 1.8 meters, taller than Otto's 1.4 meter height and a scaly red brown hue beast belt.
"Woah," exclaimed Otto as the Claymore rested on his hands.
Otto's black scaled grimoire released a feint light as it rested on his embrace.
Ping!
Name: Skulls flaming heart
Rank: {Uncommon tier 0-}
Short info: Claymore fire type longsword +8 strength weapon boost. Has fire generating enchantment circle to release flame slashes when injected with users mana.
"You can store that fire type claymore inside your grimoire slot as long as the rank is not above the rank of the slot," said Lukas closing his grimoire.
Otto feeling the coarse leather texture of the handle and the warm sensation given to his fingers by skulls flaming heart, wanted to immediately start practicing his sinful blade arts.
Calming down his rapidly beating heart, he gazed at the smiling old man and bowed his head deeply to show his sincerity, " Thank you,"
Waving his hand Lukas put a playful annoyed expression, "Hey, you don't need to do that this is just an uncommon ranked weapon if you also become an inventor you can make weapons like these and even higher ranked ones," said Lukas with a sly smile.
Otto also smiled back and inwardly contemplated between alchemy and becoming an inventor.
"Okay kid time to go, say your goodbyes to your close family and get prepared to leave in 3 days," said Lieutenant Gavin.
Otto then strapped the Claymore to his back and strapped his grimoire to his front on the red belt and dashed out the door.
"Damn it why is it already sunset," exclaimed Otto running out the door only to be greeted by red orange hue down the horizon.
"Kids on a hurry looks like he will be enjoying practice today, really an uncommon rank! If only he knew how hard it us to even get a common rank." Said Gavin side glancing at the now smiling Lukas.
Moments later back at the wood shelter huts at the slums a domesticated pig beast about 5 meters tall and as wide as 70 cm could be spotted resting inside a old metal pen with the rest of it mates.
The sun was already setting and insects started crying.
Oink! Oink! Squeal!
Hoarse sounds of pig beasts and pungent smell of piss mixed with feces and rotten food dispersed in the air.
"Guess I'm back home," said Otto walking inside and saw a dirty man sitting by the window staring aimlessly at the sunset, but what was shocking to this peaceful scenery was that the man was chained up to a large boulder the size of a grown mammoth beast.
"Uncle I'm home,"
"…"
"What are you looking outside for?" said Otto walking towards him calmly.
"…"
With a smile that contained an unspeakable sadness Otto began to talk to the messy haired man wearing only a grey tattered cotton cloth patched with straw.
Balling up his fists Otto gazed at his uncle holding back his tears but still forced a smile.
"I got approved by a strange grimoire today at the awakening test, but man I got a little scared after everyone got selected and I did not, but my grimoire is special it wanted the owner to choose it then give them a small challenge," said Otto moving close to the dazed middle aged man.
"But you know what? I always followed your advice to stay calm even in situations I find hard to escape from, because one way or another there will always be hope to escape," said Otto grabbing a bucket of water near the boulder and a cloth and started bathing his only relative left.
After awhile of talking to his quiet uncle and telling him of all that happened to him today Otto felt lighter and more at ease and nodded looking at the clean man before him.
Brown eyes, long brown hair, freshly trimmed nails, but the blood stained chains on the mans wrists and legs still destroyed the calm atmosphere around him, as if a chained beast was waiting to erupt at anytime.
"Don't worry Uncle Abel, soon I will find mother and bring her back like you wished and maybe that can also cure you again, you hear me uncle I will bring your sister back," said Otto with a determined tone.
His uncle had taken care of him since he was a little boy as he was also a Lord of this village but after a failed attempt in evolution his uncle become a unpredictable lose cannon from times of wild tantrums to times like these when he is lost in thought and calm as a lake.
Staying at the outskirt slums of the village as peasants to take care of the beast pigs had been Otto's job since he was 8 years old at the same time taking care of his uncle.
Now he had to find a way or someone to take care of his uncle when he left to get more power and status and take care of his uncle and also to find a cure for his evolution side effects that have been present for 9 years.
"The only person who I think will come and look after my uncle would be the meat shop owner if I pay him enough," said Otto glancing at his still unmoving relative.
"I have been saving up on all the money I got from slaughtering and selling the beast pig meat and if my calculations are right the money plus the other livestock left could buy me enough time for a year.' Thought Otto.
Thinking of accomplishing a good status and power in a year would be seen as an impossible task for many but Otto's mind tempered with pushing forward despite all the hard times still believed in himself.
"I can definitely do it, tomorrow I will sell the last pig beast meat and clear up this whole place." Said Otto walking toward the pig beast pen.
Looking at his Claymore skulls flaming heart he stared at the pig beast and opted not to use this precious blade for now.
It was a earth type beast at the common rank with small protruding white tusks on it's sides and a pinkish thin fir with black patches.
Squeee!
Before grabbing an old bloodstained and rusted, machete he used for slaughtering before, a thought came to Otto.
'Let me try to practice that skill before doing the killing and afterward see if it will be easier to kill these guys like before.'
Sniff! Sniff!
I think I should also take a bath and wear some clothes underneath this robe.
He hurriedly took a bucket of water to bathe, took some gray tattered clothes and put them on then covered himself with the cloak then headed to the back yard to practice his blade art skill.
Skills whether class, core and career could increase stats when moving up a higher tier using them.
So every skill is precious and to improve in your skills is also improving in stats.
Taking out his claymore Otto slowly unsheathed the blade releasing an imposing long blade that when held vertically gave the sensation of reaching the night sky and splitting open the three moons suspended in the air.
'My stats have improved just by wielding this weapon and still it's weight is pretty heavy I can barely handle it with both my hands," said Otto gazing at the glint on the blade reflecting the moonlight and this was the first time he felt like a general going to war to slaughter countless of monsters.
"Now lets begin."
