Chapter 65 - Chapter 64: Violet eyes

The rest of the school day passed by quickly. Most of the classes consisted of summary activities before the break. A few games were played and the teachers basically tried to keep them from destroying the classroom before break.

6th period passed quickly as the science teacher Mrs. Crawford gave up trying to teach or starting a new subject. For a class vote she wrote on the whiteboard

"Movie" or "Science Experiment" ?

"I'm putting this to a vote, heads up sevens up", Mrs. Crawford said.

everyone's backpacks were lying on the ground. Jeffrey put his head facedown on the black desktop. He could feel his breath on his face. His hand was placed face down on the desk.

"Who wants a movie", Mrs. Crawford announced.

a few moments passed and Jeffrey didn't vote for that option.

"How about science experiment?", Mrs. Crawford asked again.

Jeffrey raised his hands with his face still stuck to the table.

"Movie it is", Mrs. Crawford didn't even bother to count. Grabbing her computer and navigating to the feature film, Jeffrey and the rest of the students started to whisper. People started rearranging seats.

"Hey Jeffrey", Preston whispered to him.

"Hey Preston", Jeffrey responded back.

"What do you think the movie is going to be? Miracle on 34th street? Home alone?", Preston asked.

"In your dreams, I bet it's National Geographic or Bill Nye", Jeffrey offered his guess.

Soon a familiar tune echoed through the classroom.

The screen showed dinosaurs, skeletons, planes and more. It was a white building with various science exhibits with a types of three dimensional camera shots.

"EYEWITNESS"

Preston whispered to Jeffrey, "I've got to hand it to Mrs. Crawford. Science videos are always a blast remember that rocket flight one. The open heart surgery and Aerosmith ones were pretty good as well."

"SHHH", one of the students behind them whispered.

As the film continued there soon was a knock on the door.

*knock* *knock*

Mrs. Crawford got up from her seat, the creaking of the chair was muted by the noises of the film. The projector displayed the science film on the whiteboard. She ducked under the movie and opened the door.

There was a conversation happening outside, but Jeffrey and the other students in class were enjoying the last hour or so before Christmas break.

Suddenly Mrs. Crawford came back in with another science class. Among them was Dresden Poincaire. Dresden spotting Jeffrey and Preston grabbed a chair and sat right next to them.

"Hey guys", Dresden greeted them.

Preston waved watching the movie. Jeffrey was a little more nervous.

"What a surprise", Jeffrey said with a little bit of discomfort.

"Mr. Turner's projector bulb burnt out so we're borrowing your classrooms", Dresden explained.

"So uh, how's the deliberation going? What's the news? Am I in or am I out?", Dresden was quite direct with his line of questioning.

Facing the barrage of questions Preston ignored him and let Jeffrey speak for the group.

Jeffrey noticing he'd get no help from Preston, gave in a little saying "We discussed it and you're invited to our science project. Preston said a lot of good things about you and we look forward to working alongside you."

Dresden gave a smile, "That's great! Thanks for the recommendation Preston, I knew I could count on you."

"SHHHHH", another angry student was busy trying to watch the movie. In the back however a few kids had grabbed a piece of paper and they were playing a paper football tournament in the background.

The science teachers, Mrs. Crawford and Mr. Turner were busy taking the period off not having to teach. They looked quite ready for vacation as their desks were organized waiting for the next period to arrive.

Preston grabbed two jars of rainbow and cloud slime.

"Here's the new recipes", Preston whispered to Jeffrey. At this point Preston had pulled out a nature valley bar. You really weren't suppose to be eating in class, especially science class. But for the second to last class before winter break, the teachers didn't really mind.

Dresden watched as Jeffrey opened the jars and inspected them.

Jeffrey nodded at Preston, "Nice job!" he whispered.

Jeffrey and Preston turned toward Dresden after sharing a knowing glance.

Jeffrey started to give Dresden an introduction to the project. "Preston and Samantha are mainly working on the experimental side of things. They've been working on recipes and promotion for competitions and science fairs."

Preston took over, "Since you're more interested in the money side. Jeffrey decided to have you work with him on accounting and money matters. He's settling taxes with Samantha's neighbor."

At the beginning Dresden looked pretty excited, but as Jeffrey and Preston started to talk he realized they took things very seriously. That also meant it was really boring, by the end of the discussion he stifled the feeling of wanting to yawn.

"I should have kept my mouth shut and watched the movie", Dresden thought to himself.

While Dresden thought one thing, he said another "Ok, sounds good. I get paid about ~3-4 dollars for each jar I sell which includes the 2 dollar bonus if I start making my own"

Their science committee negotiations continued on for quite a while. The sun was starting to cast an interesting beam of light through the window blinds.
