Chapter 63 - Chapter 62: Period 5 Classes

Jeffrey and Samantha discussed other matters until the class period was over and they headed to a classroom for advisory.

Usually this was a peaceful time, a class dedicated for students to work on homework without distraction since it was a mandatory class. Other schools might have called it study period or homeroom. The P.E teacher sat behind a desk making sure everyone was being quite and productive.

Jeffrey as always pulled out another book. He deliberately didn't choose any flashy manga, comic books or graphic novels. Manga wasn't really popular, quite looked down upon unless you wished to be branded as a weirdo. The terminology of weeb, nerds, and geeks culture was not as accepted compared to drawing cartoons, playing sports, car magazines, and gossip.

"Haah", Jeffrey sighed. It wouldn't be until high school that there would be a brave few pulling out pokemon, yugi-oh cards, and magic the gathering. At that time, he'd be too old to play those games and he'd have to find other more socially acceptable games like D&D.

Although there were a few Nintensho DSware and pokemon games being played. If you hung out in the right spots, some kids would set up Beyblade arenas and pokemon battles.

Jeffrey recalled heading to a relatively hidden corner of the school. Near the plants behind the Yearbook and Recording room, if you head down a flight of stairs near the auditorium hallways was a classroom. The same corridors that took you to the stage.

These classrooms were very well hidden, Jeffrey didn't know which poor kids actually attended classes here because these rooms didn't have any windows or natural sunlight compared to the social studies and science classrooms. There were no blinds, it quite literally was a sort of underground nerds and weeb gathering area.

The day Jeffrey decided to visit, he brought his bakugon plastic cards and magnetic monster transformers. What he saw inside was quite amazing actually.

Somehow they got one of the carts with a tv on, working VHS and CD and they were playing home alone, pokemon movies and tv shows. It was crazy, some of the AV kids had connected the cables to the projectors. one of the rich kids hooked up a gamecube, probably from one of the science teachers with the controllers to play nes64 mario kart.

The lego robotics kids were working on programming and building legos. Various tape lines and a whole lego course was set up.

There were the artists sketching and drawing manga characters. Jeffrey saw a few blankets, beanbags and backpacks piled up in a corner.

"Where the heck had he arrived"

This was the mecca of nerddom. the last corner was the battles, video games, card games, board games, even drawing games.

One kid from 8th grade came up with the idea to introduce rules for an artist drawing format. It was roughly based on tower defense games, but people fought with points, reputation, health bars of each teams base to see who was the winner. It was a week long competition starting on Monday and declaring winners every Friday.

Jeffrey saw the janitor help to smuggle a Carrom board. Backgammon, cards, they had quite a lot of board games. Jeffrey even spotted a mancala board with most of the beads and marbles still quite clean. There was a glass chess set...

At first Jeffrey couldn't believe his eyes. Was there a teacher break room nearby? Was this the drama class changing room? Dance class? Spanish Class?

Jeffrey never really visited this area of the school before.

"Jeffrey", he heard his name being called but he couldn't tell from where.

"Jeffrey", the voice was a little louder than a whisper that time.

"JEFFREY", he could feel his body moving. His friends Preston had visited their advisory room to fetch him for lunch. Samantha was waiting impatiently by the door to head for the lunch line.

It was all a dream, he must have fallen asleep in class again. He was probably to relaxed, plus the cold air really didn't help any. Jeffrey shook his head to clear his mind. He gathered his book, pencils and homework and also wiped a little drool on the desk with his sleeve.

Grabbing his backpack he said to Samantha and Preston, "Let's go to lunch!"

"So why didn't you guys wake me up earlier?", Jeffrey asked.

"Everyone in class was laughing a little", Samantha teased.

"Sounds like Jeffrey alright. Did you know back in 3rd grade during a writing assignment and meditation class...", Preston recalled.

There were a few incidences of certain yoga classes and assemblies that he may have nodded off. Jeffrey wasn't usually sleep deprived, however from time to time he would accidently doze off in class or at school.

On a particularly sunny day if you could find him, Jeffrey would be hidden in the grass sleeping soundly. usually with a kickball match going on far off into the distance.
