The so-called Hayden city was not as prosperous and exquisite as it looked. What appeared in front of Lucian was a corner of an old and shabby city.
The building in front of Lucian was supposed to be a magnificent and beautiful gothic church. In the disaster, the top of the church was probably destroyed. After repair, it was only replaced by a yellowish-brown turning head.
It looked like a complicated white wedding dress with a big patch on it, and such buildings were everywhere in Hayden.
What's more, the church in the past was not a church anymore. Now it was changed to a coal mine. There was a group of labor transported here every day. They worked day and night, worse than pigs and dogs. In less than a year, their corpses as black as charcoal were transported out and thrown out of the city. Then, they were plundered, eaten, or burned by the people living in the Parasite City
Lucian didn't linger for long and went straight to the police station.
The police station was located in a small yard with five floors. Lucian followed the instructions and found the chief's office.
Lucian tidied up his appearance before knocking at the door.
"Rat-a-tat."
"Come in, please." A loud voice came from the door.
Lucian pushed the door open and walked in. Then he leaned over and closed the door. Then he walked slowly to the director of the police station.
The chief of the police station was a standard middle-aged bald man. His voice was as powerful as his fat body, and he was squeezing behind the desk.
"Good job, young man! Are you the newcomer today? I'm director Peter."
"Yes, sir. I'm Lucian, the new policeman." Lucian replied.
"Young people are not simple. You can live so long in the Parasite City, and can save enough money to buy identity and job." Director Peter looked Lucian up and down and said.
There seemed to be a bloody picture in front of Lucian. He crawled out of the corpse heap, his beloved woman died in front of him, and he killed three children who came to rob him to protect a mouthful of food
Lucian shook his head and shook off those pictures. Then he squeezed a smile on his face and said, "Thank you for your praise, sir. I can get to where I am today, all thanks to God's blessing." At this moment, the thin sunlight just shone on his face.
After saying goodbye to the director of the police station, Lucian was led by a colleague to his dormitory.
It was a single room of less than ten square meters, with only three pieces of furniture inside, including a bed, table, and cabinet. As soon as Lucian placed his things, he heard a hurried ringtone.
On his way here, Lucian had heard from his colleagues that as long as he heard this ring at the police station at any time, it meant that there was an emergency. He had to gather in the yard immediately.
When Lucian rushed into the yard, a dozen well-dressed police officers had already gathered in a line. Lucian hurried to stand at the end of the line.
"We have found a group of gangsters who are smuggling drugs in the city. We need to act urgently to make sure that they are all arrested." the bold Peter commanded.
"Lucian, you're new here. You don't take part in the capture mission this time. You follow the police dogs to search for drugs." The chief still cared about the newcomer.
"Yes, sir." Lucian saluted as others did.
In an old alley, Lucian was searching around with a team of military dogs.
The name of the dog team was Simon. He looked gloomy and had a long aquiline nose.
At this time, Simon was holding a big dog and walking in the alley.
"Angelina, I didn't feed you this morning. Are you hungry now? There will be delicious food soon." Simon looked at the smelling dog.
"Where are we going?" Lucian couldn't help asking.
"What?" Simon turned around and gave him a scornful look.
"We have to listen to him." Simon pointed at the big dog and looked at Lucian with more contempt.
'You mean I'm worse than a dog?' Lucian thought to himself.
"You have to listen to him, don't you?" Lucian secretly retorted, hinting that Simon was even worse than a dog.
"You..." Simon was about to lose his temper when the police dogs in front of him suddenly barked and rushed out with saliva.
Simon and Lucian also followed it.
But two legs couldn't run four legs, and the police dogs soon left the two behind.
When Lucian was running, he heard the police dogs barking excitedly in a house not far away from him. At the same time, there was a child's terrified voice.
"Damn it! This mad dog!" Lucian rushed to that room.
There were three people in this house.
Their parents worked day and night in the coal mine to support their children to study, hoping that they could change the fate of their family.
The child was also very promising and had good grades. He was going to take part in the recruitment examination of a department tomorrow. To encourage him, his parents bought a drumstick that they had never eaten before.
Just as their parents were about to put the chicken drumstick into their mouth, a ferocious dog rushed into the yard and pounced on the chicken drumstick.
The dog bit the child's hand and bit it crazily. The child screamed in pain, but although their parents push it away or beat the dog, it didn't let go of the child.
At this critical moment, Lucian arrived! Looking at the boy's blood all over the ground in the yard, Lucian was burning with anger.
He dashed forward, put his hand into the dog's mouth, grabbed its upper and lower jaw with both hands, and began to pull it out with force.
The dog's eyes turned red and began to groan in pain, but didn't let it go.
Seeing that the little boy was getting more and more painful, Lucian took out a dagger from his pocket and was about to kill the dogs.
"Little bastard, how dare you!" A roar suddenly came from outside the yard.
"Let me see who dares to kill my dog," Simon shouted as he broke into the yard.
"It's just a lowly person. It's his honor to feed my dog with one arm. Why are you meddling in my business here?" Simon stared at Lucian fiercely and said.
It's would be fine if Simon didn't say anything, Lucian became more furious when he said that. He stabbed the dog in the throat.
All of a sudden, the blood spurted and the dog fell heavily to the ground with a whine.
"How dare you kill my dog? You're dead meat!" Simon shouted madly.
"Is a dog's life more important than a human's life? Look, it's living human life!" Lucian pulled Simon over and pressed him in front of the child with a ferocious wound on his arm.
"He's just a lowly man. He's even worse than an ant in this city..." Simon was slapped to the ground by Lucian before he finished his words.
"Crack!" Lucian tore open the hem of his clothes and stopped the boy from bleeding. He waved his hand to call the children's parents who were too scared to go forward.
"This is a gold coin. You can take it to see a doctor for this child." Lucian took out a gold coin from his pocket and handed it to them.
"Thank you, sir. Thank you." The tears of the children's parents fell.
The drumstick was lying in the blood pool beside the dogs, stained with dust and blood.
In the office of the director-general of the police station, Lucian rushed over as soon as he was called by the director-general.
"Lucian, I value you so much. Did you kill a police dog on your first mission?" The chief of the police station roared.
"Sir, that dog..." Lucian wanted to explain
"Do you know how many resources we need to train a dog? The money is enough for those pariahs to live for decades!" The chief's words blocked Lucian's explanation.
Lucian knew that his explanation was useless, so he had to be criticized silently.
"Since it's your first time, I won't make a fuss with you. I'll only punish you with a year's salary. If you do this again next time, you can go back to your original place." The chief concluded.
Lucian walked out of the Commissioner's office silently. Hayden, what kind of hell is this? He wondered.
It was clear that the police dogs were out of control and almost bit people to death, but no one cared about that person. They just felt sorry for a dog!
In such an apocalypse, people's lives were inferior to dogs'! People were even more humble than grass!
While Lucian was thinking, he suddenly found himself surrounded by a large group of people. Behind the crowd, Simon walked out with a swollen face.
"You not only killed my dog but also hit me. I'll kill you today!" Simon said, covering his face.
"Hahaha..." Simon suddenly burst into laughter.
"Don't you care about those pariahs? I'll make you happy." Then he threw out three round things from his back and rolled in front of Lucian.
It was the head of the little boy and his parents!
"He was bitten by my dog and lost one of his arms at most. Now you are meddling. All his families are dead."
"Thank you. Kind man. They will also thank you." Simon covered his face and shouted at Lucian.
The three heads on the ground widened their eyes as if they were staring at something. It was the humble wish of eating chicken drumsticks, and the future they could never realize
"Ah!" Lucian covered his head and screamed in pain. He knelt on the ground as if his backbone had been pulled out. Transparent tears flowed down the corners of his eyes.
"Hahaha..." Simon's laughter hovered in the air.
After a while, Simon waved at the underling and said coldly, "Go and tear him up!"
Upon hearing the order, the underling immediately rushed towards Lucian like a wolf and a tiger.
