"It is time to leave. We need to go back and regroup" Chris knew they had nothing that could be helpful in this situation and he believed that the council could handle things. He saw no need to risk his life fighting that thing.
"No, I set it free, we will be the ones to kill it" Null was adamant that they had to deal with this problem.
Null put his respirator back on and blinked outside the ship. He concentrated on this next spell. The abomination had been reduced in size but had increased in speed. He needed a magic missile that would be fast enough and strong enough to push it back into the atmosphere.
He had been analysing the creature in front of him and noticed it was held together by a collection of abnormal field combinations. These fields were layered on top of each other. This gave him an idea for his next magic missile spell. He layered both speed and strength together and he cast the strongest and fast magic missile yet. It was a direct hit and had succeeded in pushing it back into the atmosphere.
Null had hoped it would burn up on its way down, but it did a small teleport to avoid re-entry.
**True Magic Apprentice Unlocked**
**New Skill: Expanded Channelling**
** Statement: Use Expanded Channelling and Your Nullifying field **
"What?"
** Statement: Your body has a natural Nullification field shield use Expanded Channelling to channel the effect into a weapon**
Null was more confused now, the system was giving advice and answering but he had nothing else to try. He blinked back into the ship and asked Jania if he could borrow her weapon. She handed it over. She wasn't happy about it.
"I want to fight that thing some more so make to bring it back!"
Each strike from the weapon would completely dismantle fields holding the abomination together in that section.
'This isn't fast enough, we need to do more damage' Null was calculating the rate of regeneration vs the amount of damage they were doing. If nothing changed they would eventually win, but nothing stay constant in battle.
Littleman had identified what Null was doing and also joined the battle. He also had a way of neutralising fields but his method was more efficient than Null's he was causing serious damage to the creature.
True to the nature of war. The Abomination reacted to the new situation in a very unique way. It separated with its captured souls and life forces making a literal army of torture souls monsters. These monsters were real constructs and weren't kept together by the fields. Neutralising Null and Littleman latest method of attack.
Null was extremely concerned now he had millions of monsters surrounding him and not enough energy to kill them all.
He did not need to be concerned. The monsters had made a grave miscalculation, their latest move had released the 3 Valtaui ships from their time loop and allowed them to enter the atmosphere. It didn't take long for the 3 ships to open fire with a variety of weapons finally destroying the majority of tortured souls.
Null had picked up a piece of a deceased tortured soul.
** Fusion Material Obtained. Start Fusion?**
**Material Will Expire In 10 Seconds**
"What's fusion?", he received no answer.
"Are there consequences to fusion?" once again he received no answer. The system was happy to talk earlier but now was staying silent. Null was being indecisive, he didn't think he wanted to be part tortured soul. He was worried about not knowing what the consequences would be.
He was about to say no when the timer ran out.
** Fusion will start**
It seemed the system took the lack of negative response as implied consent. Null panic and tried to stop the system.
"No, Stop!, No fusion"
But he was too late.
** Fusion Material: Soul lifeform**
** Fusion Ability: Soul Voice **
Soul Affinity +30.
"Ah Finally!, you unlocked soul affinity, a user not having a soul affinity that unheard of" The voice had just appeared in his head.
"Uhm who are you?" asked Null.
"Ah, you have been calling me 'system'. System this, system that. I'm actually an AI lifeform that runs the Alterran True Magic System."
"So because I got soul Affinity you can now talk to me? Why couldn't you just talk using the system messages?"
"Because I'm program not to assist until I've formed a soul-link. I was already breaking the rules by messaging you."
"Soul link?"
"Our souls are now bound together, if you die I die and vice versa. It is a security measure"
Before Null could continue with his conversation with the AI, his party ship had arrived.
*whistle* "That's a lot of damage, those Valtaui don't play around" Jania was admiring the aftermath of the battle. She was hoping to be on cleanup duty but knew the council would be intervening.
"Yep, here's your weapon" Null gave Jania back her weapon he did not need it anymore." Big-sis that was so cool before when you channelled the motion field. You move so much quicker"
"Ahh so I was doing something special!, I could feel myself moving faster but I was also losing control" Jania was glad it wasn't just in her head. If Null could sense it then it must have been something real. She would test it out after returning to base.
The battle was over, all they had left was to clean up the tortured souls that escaped the barrage from the Valtaui. Null was hoping to clean up and earn some more EP. He had noticed he hadn't received any so far.
"Hey system what do I call you?"
"Naming is up to the user. What do you want to call me?"
"Ok, hmm that a hard one. I know Infinity wait, no Infy is better. You will be called Infy. So Infy why didn't I get and Empire Points?"
"The torture souls were too damaged to get any energy from them. Empire points is a way of saying soul energy. Each time you skill a sentient being I harvest a piece of their soul and convert it into energy."
That sounded very similar to what the abomination was doing. "Wait, was that abomination the result of a system?" asked Null.
"Yes, or so I suspect" replied Infy.
