Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Waking Up

*POV: Unknown

In a Universe not so far away, there was a 19-year-old boy, nothing special about him: green eyes, brown hair, with a normal jaw. He is, as you would call it, an 'average Joe.' His name is Mike."

Mike, being a 19-year-old in America, after being kicked out by his parents a year ago, has been staying at his friend's place. He was currently out shopping when he was crossing the crosswalk, on his phone. He drops his phone and leans down to pick it up. As he does this, he hears a sound that made his blood run cold:

'VRMMMMMMMMMMMM'

Mike, powered by adrenaline or some other unknown source, just barely manages to run forward while crouching, just in time for a massive semi-truck to pass by. And just as Mike thought he was in the clear, after stumbling out of the way of the semi-truck, he does one last pathetic slip into the street curve and sees black.

*POV: Mike

'Wha..what happened?' I ask myself as I attempt to look around, only to have something stop my head from moving. 'What is this??' I start trying to frantically look at my surroundings with my eye, only to see everything tinted in an orange color with what I think are roots.

'Where am I? What is this place?' I can vaguely hear buzzing in my head from something, but when I concentrate on it, it fills me with dread. I try to look around and feel my body as I move the only thing I could, my tongue. I feel my teeth. 'Wait... feel?' I start to panic as I realize I haven't felt anything physically since I woke up.

As I look in the corner of my eyes at my arm, there's nothing but bone in cloth mixed with a small amount of what I think are veins. I try not to think about it, lest I metaphorically throw up. As I'm looking around for more information and wondering what and why this happened, I try and feel my body.

I feel something familiar yet foreign in my body, right where the navel is. As I pull on it, I suddenly get hit with thousands of thoughts, thousands of years of memories separate from my own. It's as if I experienced them but didn't. As I try to get rid of that confusing sensation, I suddenly realize something. 'Am I... the Lich?!'

As I tried to review not even 1/100 of the memories, the most recent being beaten by the legendary hero Billy and being sealed in an Amber prison, to the oldest which is but a fog compared to it, of nothing but monsters then nothing at all.

As I reviewed the memories, I realized I'm either in Adventure Time or in an alternate Adventure Time. Let's hope it's Adventure Time at all.

As I tried to move anything, I feel the familiar energy at my navel again, but more docile. As I tried to focus on it, I have a mental image of a dark green, almost black flame with lime at the center, slowly corrupting the dark green, flickering.

I realized this is the Lich's flame, but something is different fundamentally. Sure, the dark green is still giving off the ominous vibes, but the lime green in the middle feels more like... me? 'So this is magic?' I thought as I tried to review all my memories of magic. 'My?' I realize I wasn't separating Lich from myself. 'No, I am myself, no longer Mike, no longer the Lich.'

As I thought of that, the dark green and lime flames slowly merged into just one constant light green flame, no more flickering. 'So accepting that was major, huh? So what do I do now?' I decided to just think everything over. 'So I am the Lich, just after being trapped in amber, if I'm correct. How long was he in there anyway?'

I can't think of a timeline for this, so I decided to reflect on the Lich's memories. I realized that my magic now seems meager compared to back then. I started wondering if the amber or Billy's gauntlet had something to do with it. But then I realized that none of that really matters since I'm stuck in amber with no way out. So, why not make the most of it? I thought, 'I might as well train my magic if I can.'

I tried to move the flame in my navel, making it go in circles 'I'm not in a cultivation novel (-.-)'. I wanted to try a different approach. I attempted to move the flame into my bones and felt some progress, but it wasn't with my magic. Instead, I could physically feel my bones strengthening and slightly stretching. I wondered if I was getting bigger because of this, maybe that's how Sweet Pea got so big?Maybe the magic is strengthening and growing my bones? Let me try this again.

I tried compressing the magic that I inserted into the bone, and the bone shrunk back to its original size with the same strength. I repeated this a few times. It seems like I can revert it to its smaller size at any time, but if I let go of the magic in the bone, it will go back to being bigger. Should I just keep feeding my bones magic until I run out, while also compressing it? Sounds good enough.

(Unknown amount of time later)

*POV: Narrator

If someone were to look under the Candy Kingdom in the very roots of the tree, they would see a very large skeleton in ragged cloth trapped in amber. It's constantly growing and shrinking by a centimeter each second. This skeleton is the Lich.

*POV: Lich

'I have been doing this exercise for at least a week and have felt my magic empty more than once. Let me check on it.'

As I peered into the same dark space, I saw a roaring stable green flame, except it's bigger? 'It seems as I empty out my magic, my reserves get bigger.'

As I checked on my bone, I realized that I have condensed it too many times to count. With each time I did it, it took less and less time. By the second, the first time it took 10 minutes to increase my bone's strength, now it takes 5. 'Not like I've been counting, I'm not even sure if it's been a week.'

As I peer at my memories for more entertainment, something I've been doing in between my magic practice, I stumble upon the Lich's way of flying. 'Huh, it's not very costly, is it? You just send slivers of magic into the air to keep yourself afloat. Neat.'

After that, I keep doing magic practice.
