In my past life, I was a very hard working boy, when my parents died when I was three, I was sent to the most cruel orphanage ever. With unmotivated employees and a rude boss, it was practically hell, no one adopted me, even with my charming looks, no one was interested in me, so I did what anybody would.
Study.
I worked my ass off everyday. But that was still not enough, most collodges not only require good grades, but also a speciality, like art or music, but instead of that, I trained my body, my own training techniques!
First, it must be nighttime, so you can train your mental state to stay awake. Second, you must be cold, to generate more body heat to improve your coordination. Third, basic stuff, pushups, squats, arm circles to warm up. Then fourth, the real workout, I call this, Center of Gravity. Remember, the center of gravity is the point around which all the parts balance; this may be inside or outside your body. Even slight changes in position can change where your center of gravity is. I use my workout consisting of squats in the air, walking on the wall with only my toe grip, and 360 leg stretches to shift my gravity.
This gives me control over my power, so if I shift my gravity to one side, the other side is light and can move around, and if I shift again, it gains the power of gravity letting it shoot down like a bullet. This built my love for boxing, but my orphanage wouldn't give two fucks when I told them,
I used my studies and this technique that I created to increase my probability into getting a good college with a full scholarship.
But shit hit the fan
A random rich kid got into the spot with the full scholorship, supposedly because his dad was good friends with the headmaster of the school.
Life is fucked up, but this was the best part of my life.
Asel found me and the rest was history.
...
My name was Akatsuki Verio now, by the way. Aka for short, not A K A, just Aka, put them together will you? As a former boxer, sounded a little too cute, but hey, after getting a glimpse of myself in the holographic screen they used as a mirror in the washroom, I looked absolutely adorable. I got a mix of my mother's shining white hair and my dad's jet black. Both eyes were ocean blue, just like my mothers. I don't know how my facial features are going to turn out as I mature, but as long as I don't turn out fat, it'll be okay.
Watch out future ladies! Prepare to be heartbroken! This body is for one women!
After weeks of attempting to crawl, yet only achieving an uncoordinated scuffle in place, I had finally succeeded; even managing to sneak into the family's study room while my mother was shoving the laundry in the washer. Mother cried the day I started to become mobile, sighing, "I swear, you're going to become as hard to manage as your father."
...
I closed the encyclopedia and situated myself more comfortably on the ground... basically I just laid on my belly because crawling and sitting upright was so damn tiring.
Pondering over what I had just read, this world seemed pretty overdeveloped. From what I could infer, there seemed to be a lot of technological advancement. The sources of transportation were vast and the amount of inventions that made life easier were plenty.
Weapons were freely allowed and not really regulated unless you were visiting the royal family or people that held authority. For God's sake, it continues to baffle me every time I see people carrying weapons while shopping for groceries.
Sure, in my previous world, Earth, there were cops and guards who carried concealed weapons, despite that, they weren't for the purpose of killing, but to deter crimes from happening.
Here, though, I witnessed a thief who stole a couple of items from the armory store the other day get slashed in the back by a large, bald mercenary carrying a polearm. Moreover, the bystanders even went as far as to applaud that oversized monk as the thief laid there dying.
After scanning through the encyclopedia, there didn't seem to be much information on other continents besides the one we were currently in. I found this a bit odd since there were ships that carried goods and passengers across the continent by ocean. This must be a book that focused the this one continent.
One thing that was going to be hard to get used to was the whole premise of magic in this world. On Earth, people used guns, but in this world, people could summon full on meteors from the sky, A FUCKING ROCK OUT OF THIN AIR! A bullet proof vest would be a fucking ant towards this!
In this world, instead of modern weaponry, people used magic. The supply used to create such phenomenons seemed to be called mana and the more surprising thing was that it existed in the atmosphere. Thus, Practitioners, or Mages, would use the surrounding mana and draw it into their bodies, ultimately condensing it in their mana core. There were multiple stages for the core, first it was white, then orange, yellow, green blue, purple, red, and lastly, black.
The bigger the cup, the more you can hold, right?
Mana could also be absorbed into the body, this is what warriors used to become strong, some being able to even slice mountains! The more mana absorbed into your body, the more powerful you could be, its was essentially like a core, but on the outside, it had the exact amount of stages as a mage, same names too,
'I can't wait to absorb mana!' I thought to myself.
The next book that I managed to pull from the bottom shelf, explained a couple of questions for me.
"Beginner's Guide for the Privileged Mage"
While the power to control mana is largely genetic, there are many cases where children of Magi come out unable to sense the mana around them. A recent census showed that roughly 1 in a 100 children are able to sense mana, but the extent of which could only be tested when their mana core first completely developed—anywhere from their early adolescence to late teen years. It will be apparent when a mage first awakens by the initial repellence of the surrounding mana when their mana core manifests . This results in a translucent barrier forming around the awakened that lasts a couple of minutes.
'System, when will you come!'
[You can activate me now, but this will lead to the dormant problems in the world to activate , leaving you a path to follow.]
'Oh, you are there, why did you never come when I asked?'
[If I came then, you would die in an instant, the problems would be so large, they would eventually swallow you up.]
'Then activate yourself!'
[System Activated]
