The moment the devourers were within range, the ships opened fire.
Massive beams of energy were blasted into the tide of devourers and there were numerous flashes of light that came within the mass followed by roars of pain.
The barrage did not stop, but very quickly, it became inadequate as the number of devourers were simply too many. Finally, the big boy ships in the fleet opened up.
Incredibly powerful beams were fired and fissures were made in the dense crowd of monsters. However, the barrage ended as quickly as it started as such ships would need to recharge for quite some time.
The rangeed mages finally acted at this point. In addition with the already firing ships, all sorts of destructive magical attacks were fired at the dense swarm.
Still though, the beasts inched closer and closer to the formation, and when they were about halfway, another defense measure that had been set up was activated.
