Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 21: UNKNOWN THREAT

Gideon returned back to the crimson dragon guild building in a relatively good mood. One must know that as he became stronger, it would become more difficulty to improve his skills apart from leveling up.

However, when he got to the entrance of the guild, he saw a few dozen people standing opposite each other, and judging by the shouts coming from each side, it definitely meant conflict.

Gideon silently activated stealth and went to the side to observe the situation. There were two sides, one side was directly in front of the guild, crimson dragon members. On the other side, there were people who wore brown clothing and majority of them had scars on their faces making them look fierce.

Gideon recognized their clothing after some thought and recognized them to be the mercenary association. Despite there being association, it was actually still a registered guild, and they had quite the reputation, but not the good type.

It was said that their leader had a massive superiority complex and often picked fights with other guilds, there were even times when he blatantly told his members to cause trouble since no one could do anything to them. The only reason why they hadn't been disbanded by the government was because their strength was unquestionable and as much as everyone hated to admit it, they were needed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vincent was on the verge of exploding as he stared at the people in front of him. He was doing a quick inspection of the guild's facilities when one of the staff came to him saying that there was a large amount of mages with strong auras had gathered in front of the guild demanding a large sum of credits for no reason. They had been arguing with each other for over an hour and now things were about to escalate.

"How on earth can you people be so unreasonable!?! There's no way that we can just give you a hundred million credits, you know full well that bringing that amount will be a hassle even for large guilds like us, and for what reason?!?!" Veins wriggled under his skin as Vincent shouted with his voice raised.

"What we need the money for is none of you business, just give us the money and we will be on our way." A man with multiple scars who seemed to be the leader said flatly as if their demand was absolute.

"No." Vincent reached a decision and said once.

"No? Then we will force you." The scar faced man released his aura that stood firmly at the silver rank and a grey spear appeared in his hands as he took a step towards Vincent's group. The people behind him mimicking his actions.

Vincent's group did the same as the two sides started walking towards each other. The civilians quickly fled the scene as they didn't want to be involved in a guild conflict.

"That's enough." A deep but youthful voice entered everyone's ears at the same time causing them to freeze instinctively.

A person with a lean figure wearing a dark green tracksuit and a face mask appeared seemingly out of nowhere and walked in between the two sides.

"Who the hell are you?" The scar faced man said with a hint of caution. He was at the silver rank so his perception was nothing to scoff at, yet he wasn't able to detect this seemingly young mage until he purposefully revealed himself. However, Gideon straight up ignored him before looking at Vincent.

"Don't waste your time with these pieces of trash, it's people like them who cause humanity to stagnate despite knowing our situation. Besides, they truly can't do anything to us as this isn't even everyone in the guild, so let's just go." Gideon said and Vincent let out a breath to quell his anger.

"You're right, we have no reason to get riled up by them. Everyone back inside." Vincent gave the order and the remaining members scoffed before turning to go back inside the building.

"Where the hell do you think you're going!?!" The man shouted in rage as wind suddenly swarmed around his body as he dashed towards Gideon. He raised his spear and a funnel of densely concentrated wind surrounded the spear tip boosting its penetrative power to terrifying heights.

'*Sigh* I thought you would only see these brain dead people in movies and stuff, but I guess they actually exist.' Gideon thought as he summoned his daggers and activated poison aura and poison overdrive.

He similarly dashed towards the man and both swung their weapons.

*SWOOSH*

A the two of them passed by each other and stopped when they were five meters apart with their backs facing the other side.

*SPURT*

Blood spurted from a long wound that stretched from the belly all the way to the shoulder of the scarred man. He then fell on his knees with his pupils trembling in fear.

"How did he-" He collapsed.

Gideon turned around and walked passed the man whose blood was starting to pool as if he did nothing but taking out the trash.

One may not have been able to see what happened clearly, but in reality, Gideon made use of his new whiplash dagger to strike the man faster than he could dodge. He the expertly twisted his body so that the man's spear missed him by a hair's breadth.

"Is he?" Vincent asked with concern as he saw the man's body, he obviously meant if he was dead.

"No, although he's bleeding a lot, he should still be able to move, it's because I injected a large amount of poison in him when I hit him, it'll wear off after he's far enough from me though." Gideon assured as he watched the members of the mercenary association carry the man's body while staring at Gideon hatefully.

"Oh yeah, I just finished a mission and I want to get my rewards." Gideon almost immediately forgot about what he just did and turned to Vincent.

'This guy.' Vincent couldn't help but feel dumbfounded at the change of demeanor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somewhere in an unknown location, a huge castle made out of a black material stood majestically on a mountain, its towers piercing high into the sky and thick walls that seemed to be able to block some of the strongest astral cannons.

However, the environment around the castle was in stark contrast of the castle. Dark barren soil stretched for as far as the eyes could see and it was deathly quiet. If one wasn't an inhabitant of this place, they would think that it was dead.

In side the castle was a massive throne room with the throne in the middle. On it, a figure could be seen.

He had an incomparably handsome face and his jet black hair accentuated his black eyes that seemed to carry the very void itself. He wore a black robe that had different runes inscribed on it, each one could make even the best rune casters feel dizzy.

Bellow him, hundreds of figures were kneeling down respectfully, each of them trying not to make even the slightest sound as it could result in their death.

"How long until the gateway is opened." His cold yet charming voice rang throughout the hall, but no one admired it and instead shivered. One has to know that majority of the people in the room where at the diamond rank.

"My Lord, we've been making substantial amounts of progress and we estimate that we'll be able to finish it in 8 years." Woman with a incredibly hot figure stood up and responded, however her gaze was filled with infatuation instead of fear, clearly she was a rank above the others.

"8 years, that's quite fast." The man nodded in approval. Although 8 years seemed like a while, for someone like him who had lived for countless millennia, it was but the blink of an eye.

"Finally, I'll be able to absorb a world's life force and become a god." An incomparably small smile tugged at the man's lips, he had been waiting for this for a very long time.

'The world that we end up bridging to will be nothing but food for me.' He thought as a fit a maniacal laughter was released from him. It had truly been too long.
