The next few days of their recovery crept slowly by, each hour feeling like weeks. Nobody wanted to really discuss what had happened, but at the same time, nobody could think of anything else.
Victor was conflicted. Was Holden telling the truth? Had Devotion really left Guff to die, just like that? That seemed so contradictory to what Devotion had been saying earlier, about how no friend would ever be left behind.
Devotion himself was struck with the same problem. He kept replaying the encounter in the cave in his head, over and over. What could he have done different? Why couldn't he save everyone?
