Chapter 4 - The Gargoyle Prince is in need of my assistance

"I sense a lot of promise in your eyes and feel a fire in your eyes to take on the difficulties, so I wanted to make your acquaintance by providing a few bits of information," Xavier responded.

"Is this a ruse? What if you're trying to take over my powers or exploit me to your advantage?" With a dubious expression on my face, I inquired.

"I am more struck because you are adamant about not readily placing your trust in people," Xavier responded. "I believe I made the correct decision to introduce myself to you..."

"Thank you for your offer, Xavier. This isn't something I'm interested in since I already have enough on my plate. Why don't you advocate for yourself?" I responded to him.

"It's because the person I trust with this knowledge is already part of Eva's team and is doing damage to me, and I don't know what they're planning against me." In his reply, he expressed sadness.

"How can you trust me? What if I am a member of the Eva, given that I am an absolute stranger to you, Xavier?" I inquired of Xavier.

"It didn't take long for me to realize that you were the only person I could team up with after your secretly hostile reply to Eva." Xavier responded in a stern tone.

"Xavier, I'll have to think about it. I'm not sure if I'll join your team. I need some time to assess whether you're telling the truth." So, he responded. I moved away from him.

I questioned whether Xavier was sincere, but I concluded he was. The mystery of his death and the fact that no one could find out why he died are things I remember from my past life. The action will occur in around two months when Xavier is killed.

I was curious how Xavier concluded Eva was the one who was causing him trouble. I halted my progress and turned around to find Xavier looking at me from a distance.

Walking up to a sense of intrigue prompted him. "Did you forget something?" Xavier inquired.

I said, "I thought you departed, so why are you still here? Also, I returned to inquire how you came to learn that your life is in jeopardy."

"My spy was the only one who could keep me informed on what Eva's carter and her crew were up to. But, unfortunately, my spy died yesterday." Xavier responded wistfully. As I didn't want to exhibit emotion in front of others, I immediately recovered from my gasp.

"To answer your question, why am I standing here? As my committed apprentice, I want to ensure that you are secure on campus and that I take good care of you." Xavier responded with a gorgeous smile that matched his profile photo perfectly.

"Xavier, I have not agreed with your terms. So I think I'll go now." I replied calmly.

Looking back, I saw he was still standing there with his hands in his jacket, smiling at me with those green eyes.

Although my heart was racing for a moment, I quickly realized that I was still vulnerable to such an enticing face after clenching my jaws. Aria, you'd best get a hold of yourself. Don't let your guard down. I mentally yelled at myself. Maggie was soundly slumbering. As I exhaled in relief at the looming quiet, I realized it was the essence I am so fond of.

A copy of my schedule was on my desk the following day, and I saw that the first day of classes would be devoted to assessing the abilities of every student at the university. They would send those who failed the exam to basic training.

Maggie's voice boomed out in my ears. "Aria, are you ready? We'll have much fun today as we show our mastery to the principal and everyone else."

Maggie and I headed to get food for ourselves, leaving the dorms. Even though I was highly versed in battle and magical spells and how to adapt to my opponents' magic, I was still apprehensive about the test that would begin in a few hours.

At the other end of the room, I saw Eva sitting with several friends. I rolled my eyes as she gave me a growling attitude. In a split second, it drew my gaze to Hudson's face. I did not know he was staring directly at me until this point. I avoided his stare as I drank my orange juice and ate my scrambled eggs in front of me.

"Maggie, is there anything on my face?" I inquired whether I had used too much makeup or applied anything to my face since Hudson never glanced at me or disregarded my presence.

Maggie said, "You look lovely, if that's what you're asking," with a grin. So, of course, I smiled at her warm response.

I quickly checked my phone and discovered the exam was only around the corner. So I walked to the changing room. While Maggie practiced her magic, I spent some time alone with my thoughts. To return to my younger self and discover that I had all of my old powers was a joy. I could feel the power coursing through my veins like a swift current across my body. Before enrolling at Dark Academy, I had been practicing and trying to employ magic spells learned in my previous life. Finally, the magic came effortlessly to me, and I could run at the superhuman speed of a vampire.

Flashback to a previous life.

My thoughts wander back to the day when Eva had gradually wrested control of my power from me by using a spell that was forbidden in the dark Academy. It worked because I gave Eva part of my superpowers, since she often came to me sobbing. After all, she felt helpless, and I made a mistake by sharing my half-power with her, which helped the spell to function, and she got absolute control over my entire force.

"Aria Hart," please come to the training grounds. The announcement woke me out of my twilight slumber. Honestly, I fell asleep in the locker room. I dressed in the dark academy's sports outfit.
