Chapter 1 - The Magic Mirror

[God, why am I so handsome?]

Quentin looked at himself with a smile in front of the large, gold-plated mirror. He scratched his chin as he posed, making sure there weren't any pimples or dirt there. He was always satisfied with his physique, his soft, shiny blonde hair. His eyes that shaded like a rare emerald green and his facial lines that were flawless.

He also diligently trains his physique, to build his perfect muscles. Of course he wasn't into swordsmanship, as long as it was enough to get rid of the unnecessary fat, he would rest. He didn't want to be too stocky like the knights, let alone had calluses on his palms.

He looked out the window. The castle was cold and gloomy. Since the evil sorcerers had Occupy it, not many workers were willing to keep serving there. Now the princess was forced to wipe every window, sweep the floor and wash her own clothes.

Quentin turned into a corner of the wall. There was another mirror. It was oval in shape with an intricately carved silver frame. He could see that it was extremely ancient and magical. It was the famous mirror, the all-knowing mirror. Unfortunately all this time he was not used well. The previous owner cared only about what the mirror thought of her.

The vile witch, obsessed with immortality and beauty. She made the magic mirror a counselor who said sweet things about her. But it was all a sham, because the witch wasn't really pretty.

"Cursed you... Cursed!" Quentin saw a well-dressed old granny crawling at his feet. Her hair was white and she had a lot of wrinkles. She couldn't even move her legs. Quentin simply erased her ageless magic, and she instantly turned to her pathetic state.

The old sorcerers didn't know what Quentin's name was. He came like the wind and took everything from her. Her tongue wanted to cast a curse spell on her deathbed but something stopped her.

"You're old, rest and reflect on your sins," said Quentin disdainfully, kicking her frail hand hard. He intended to shower many times later because having let the ugly old woman touch his feet just now.

"Reform!"

Quentin raised his hand, then a blue light covered his right hand. The wooden planks peeled off the pegs and joined to form a coffin-like box. Then Quentin buried the sorcerers there, silencing her for good.

"Well, that's settled," he smirked.

Quentin now heard a noise outside the window. A macaw parrot was pecking at the glass emotionally.

"Open the window! Stupid Quentin!" said the bird impatiently.

Quentin opened it and the bird flew inside.

"What are you doing here? You missed your lesson. And what did you do to the guards? You turned them into ice sculptures? What did they do to you?" The parrot immediately grumbled.

Quentin covered his ears unconcerned.

"Relax, they'll be back to normal in the evening," he said nonchalantly.

"Don't You know they can melt in the sun? They're all out in the open!" Shouted the bird again.

"It wasn't my fault! they were lucky enough that I didn't change them permanently. You know I don't like it when people get in my way… Damn, I remember not taking my medicine today. No wonder everything is so upsetting," Quentin reasoned. The bird sighed, she knew there was no point in arguing with Quentin.

"So what are you doing here? In a far eastern land?" The bird perched on his shoulder demanding an explanation.

"Take magic items and put them into the right hands, which is me," said Quentin confidently.

He looked back at the Legendary magic items. The mirror looks foggy. It didn't directly reflect the shadow. The surface looked like there was an eternal blizzard happening behind it.

"What is the spell to make a magic artifact become mine, Freyja?" Quentin asked the bird.

"You don't remember? Do you even listen to my teaching?"

"Shut up, what's the spell?"

"You've killed the previous owner, now you have to make a new contract with it. Using your blood, make a magic pentagram on one side of its surface," Freyja informed.

Quentin did. When he finished making a pentagram of blood on the mirror's surface—purple light was emitting from it.

"You called me?" said the mirror's voice.

"Your master is dead, now I am your owner," said Quentin a little dramatically.

"Name?"

"Quentin Sigmarino," he said.

"What's the contract?" asked the mirror.

Quentin shrugged, looking at Freyja. He whispered something in his ear.

"Is there anything you want, mirror?" asked Quentin.

"Every full moon, place me facing the lake in your palace..and you must not curse me, no matter how bad or bitter the truth that I told," said the mirror.

"Agreed," Quentin nodded.

"I am your servant, Mr Quentin," said the mirror voice again. The contract had been made.

The young man tried to lower the mirror and put it in a large straw bag. He forgot to bring it from the palace and buy whatever he could find in the people's market he passed.

"Kyaa!" a beautiful girl, with skin as white as snow, lips as red as ripe apples and black hair that gleamed like sea pearls shrieking.

She opens her stepmother's room to clean it, and finds a man stealing her mother's mirror.

She stared at Quentin for a moment with trembling lips. But the girl seemed to be trying to be brave.

"Who are you! Why are you here? Where is my mother?" The girl said scared.

"Mother? You call that evil woman your mother? You're being pushed around like a servant every day, she's even trying to kill you, but you're still looking for her?" Quentin confirmed her reasoning.

"That—she's my only family after all," the girl lowered her head.

"She's dead, she would have rotted a long time ago if it weren't for his ageless spell. Did you know she's almost 120 years old?" Quentin said.

The girl looked devastated. And she's Crying. What bothered Quentin most of all was how sincere the princess's cries were. Affirms of his purity and kindness.

"Stupid, what's your name?" Quentin asked.

"Shirayuki," she sobbed.

"You know what your mother used to do with this mirror?"

"Yeah, she asked me to scrub it once a week and take it to the lake when the moon was full," she said again, wiping her tears.

"Good, you come with me now."

"Eh?"

"You must come with me to the palace to take care of the mirror," said Quentin.
