Chapter 2 - A Different gaze

Across all realities, across every universe, omni-verse and beyond is some version of the original earth, most of them carry the same name as the original as does the world that Apollyon has the unfortunate experience of living on, mother Earth, sister Moon, brother Mars, all under the control of the Dominus Imperium, and with the eight counselor having guided and controlled the imperium for several decades now, it will probably continue this was for decades to come as they show no sign of getting weaker with time and instead grow stronger. His father was one of them, out of the nine continents on this version of earth, his father was one of eight individuals strong enough to control a whole continent, the continent of Terra Ignis, a hot, volcanic land full of rich mineral deposits that his father controls, using them to equip the armies and navies of the imperium, and in the center of Terra Ignis lay the city of Solenmance, his fathers seat of power and Apollyons home.

The city of Solemnance was truly beautiful, skyscrapers that seemed to pierce the heavens, vast areas of residential, economic and entertainment centers, as well as having one of the nine spaceports and space elevator that where on Earth, the city of Solemnance was truly a modern city, and since his father lived here it was also the most well defended in the whole world, with Red Claw academy just outside the city, with 5,000 future soldiers of the imperium ready and waiting, the city had high walls with enough firepower to fight for a hundred years unassisted, and with how the city was basically self sufficient, having to import mostly luxury items, the city of Solemnance was basically a small country all by itself.

But to Apollyon, it was a prison, high walls to keep him in, full of warriors ready and waiting to die at his father command, Red Claw academy a place where the only reason he wasn't killed was because he would take some of them down with him, and because of his father, but that didn't stop the taunting of his peers, their mocking gazes as he preformed pathetically compared to his siblings, his own father hated him after all so why should they show any respect to the weakling. He could see it in their eyes when they looked at him, the disgust, the hatred, the mocking gazes of those who could only beat down those below him, and his siblings saw those gazes too and yet the did nothing to help him, they did not intervene when he was beaten, and laughed at, but he couldn't blame them, if their father found out that they had helped the "embarrassment" of the family, they would be punished just like he was, every day just for being weak. Despite all this he tried to get stronger and make friends and he had made friends, he was still working of the getting stronger part of things, but at least he had his friends Timothy and Annabelle, two of the three people on earth that don't seem to hate him, with the third being his mother.

That seemed to change however, when the Dean of the school introduced the new girl; "Attention class, this is the newest transfer student from Starsight Academy, treat her with respect as you would treat me." the dean said, of her name plate is said [Frisk Dreemurr Rank:1]. The shock that spread across the room must have been more than obvious as the dean took a look at us a smirked,"Now class, as you know, Starsight academy is focused on training the pilots and hackers but since she has been determined to be ill fitted for Starsight, she has been transferred over to Red Claw Academy, and as i'm sure you all have noticed, she is now ranked first in the whole school, you may think that something shady is going on but let me assure you, I was at her aptitude test, with Counselor Starborn also being present and deciding himself that she would be allowed to attend, with him personally giving her the rank, so unless you can defeat him in combat, keep your mouth shut, besides later on in the year the challenges will open up allowing you to fight each other to your hearts content, but for now behave yourselves." he said with a glare, seeing as some of the students belonging to the more influential families of Solemnance still did not believe him, as the dean left the room all our eyes turned to the new girl, Frisk. She just stared right back at us, not moving not blinking, just taking the time to stare each of the 30 people in the room in the eyes individually, and I started to feel dread, it was no secret to the other academies that a counselor blatantly hated his own son, and Apollyon was sure that his face was well known as an easy target, and when Frisk looked at him, he expected to see the same things he always say, hate, disgust, mocking, malevolent, but those weren't the words he would use to describe the way she looked at him, she looked at him as if he was an open book, he saw pity? in her eyes, and sadness as if she could understand his pain, and the years of torment that allowed him to stare the strongest person in the room dead in the eyes, without a trace of fear as if the threat that she posed to him was just another tuesday in hell, which for him it was. She was one of the only people on planet Earth that didn't seem to have any malicious thoughts about him, she gave him a swift curt nod of the head, then continued staring down the rest of the class, looking each person in the eyes, with all of them averting their eyes, maybe out of fear, he didn't know she didn't do to him whatever it was she was doing to the rest of them. Finally, after five minutes of uncomfortable silence and staring, she finally spoke. . . "Hello, fellow classmates. My name is Frisk, I am from the Dreemurr family of the city of Mechara, and I am a first year student from Starsight academy that has transferred here to Red Claw academy. I look forward to getting to know you all." she said, her voice level despite the bomb she had just dropped on us, the Dreemurr family, was once one of the greatest families of earth, and with their proficiency with something they called 'Soul Magic' they were all very powerful, yet despite this racist rebel leaders used the fact that those who practiced soul magic resemble monsters and various other creatures, massacred the family towards the end of the war two decades ago, and yet despite this, here was quite possibly the last living member of their family, right in front of them. While the rest of the class was reeling from this plot twist, Frisk was told by the teacher to go sit in the only empty seat in the class, which just happened to be next to me. As she walked over, I instinctively shied away and tensed up, getting ready for a fight as that was what I had to deal with every day for the past month since school began.

When she sat down a paper notebook and wooden pencil appeared in her hand, 'she must have a space ring' I thought noticing the ring on her right middle finger, but what surprised me more was when she stuck her hand out to me "hello my name is Frisk, what's your name?" she asked, not wanting to be rude but still cautious I quickly shook her hand and introduce my self "Hello, my name is Apollyon." I said quietly as the teacher had begun the first lesson of the day, perhaps noticing that she started to whisper as well, "It's nice to meet you Apollyon, I like your name, it's quite unique, is your father counselor Starborn?" she asked, 'unique? since when is my name unique?' I thought incredulously, "Thanks, and yes my father is counselor Starborn." I whispered back surprised that she was even asking that, his nameplate clearly said 'Starborn' who else would his father be? After looking at him for a few seconds Frisk nodded slightly then turned and started taking notes on the class as did I, a few of my classmates snuck glances at us in disbelief, as if the couldn't believe that someone could sit next to me, and that I had not been aggressive as I usually was towards new people. Before long the bell rang and it was time for one of the worst parts of my day, Battle Training.
