Half an hour later the students got back into their seats and Professor Nara continued with the class, "Now we will discuss the different types of monsters and then the monsters that appeared on that night. There are different categories that monsters can fall into, these are undead, deformed beings, the sinful races, and your anomalies."
"The undead are a very diverse group, which goes from a standard zombie or skeleton to things like vampires and the Grendel which you all saw fight against the Phoenix earlier. There are very limited ways to deal with undead as they are immune to most magic and physical attacks. What the magical society uses at the moment are enchanted swords."
"This doesn't necessarily work for all undead as we haven't done enough research on them but what we do know is that they are harmed by sunlight and can not move during the day. They have occupied some of our Federacy, but we have chosen not to engage with them as we don't believe we can take them on with all the unknowns about them."
"The deformed beings are creatures that used to have humanoid bodies but have devolved into a more primitive form, where their intelligence and magical capabilities have decreased drastically. We don't know how much of this statement is true as no one knows what these creatures would have looked like beforehand."
"Another reason this statement is denied is because magic only came into existence just over 100 years ago. Around the same time, Magical Beasts and monsters started to appear as well. It doesn't make sense for these creatures to be around for hundreds of years because there would have been records of such things."
"There are other theories about the origins of everything, but no one has solid evidence to back up their claims, so we keep the theories as theories and try to prove them. We are of course lacking in our understanding of things as we have only been aware of the ability to use magic in the last 100 years. We develop new techniques and make discovers everyday, so one day we can have the answers to our questions."
"Now the next type of monsters are quite interesting and highly dangerous. For example, we know basically nothing about them. They are small in number but that doesn't make them any less of a threat and they shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone, including myself and the top mages. They are called the Sinful race."
"This group consists of what we can describe as demons. They are demonic beings in a sense as they have no regard for any lifeforms beside themselves. Now you might ask yourself, well if that's their description then surely all monsters could be considered as part of the Sinful race. Which would be true except for the fact that these demons seek destruction and mercilessly kill anyone and anything in their way."
"They act indifferently to anything and anyone, even their own kind. There have been sightings of more then one sinful race before, but it is highly unlikely. They are humanoid creatures and can blend in with any society and go unnoticed until they destroy it. To be labelled as part of the Sinful race you would have to commit a heinous act at a large scale without showing indifference."
"There have been humans and Magical beasts that have been considered part of the Sinful race after they have committed a grave crime. This type of monster is not your typical monster and that is why they are labelled as something sinful." The professor looked around the class to see some horrified and scared faces from the students, the complete opposite of what they were early.
"There is no need to be scared everyone, the school will never throw you to the dogs, we will protect you at any cost necessary. But again, there is no need to worry as these people wouldn't come here as there are very highly mages here who would be able to subdue them before they could do anything."
Sasori thought to himself, 'Subdue, is that the school can do, but what if more then one comes here and fights them will we be safe. I should calm down. Take a deep breath. In. And out. I'll trust the professor's words, but it seems I'll have to become stronger to fight against these monsters and protect my friends and my mom. I don't want anyone to get hurt by one of these monsters.'
"Alright class, I hope you can remember this stuff for when you go out into the world as an adventurer, mage, or knight. We will go into this stuff in more detail as you grow up and go into your specific fields, because you may not need all that knowledge in some places where other places it will be more important. Oh, and before anyone asks about the anomalies I think it's pretty self explanatory."
"I think that's all we will go over today, it is a lot to take in, but we need to get the basics out of the way so that we can focus on your strengths and develop all of you into the magical geniuses of the future we want. You can all go back to the dormitory or to the training grounds to practice but wait for the supervisor or you will get a short-term ban. Class dismissed."
Professor Nara walked out of the class and disappeared through the portal and went back to his lab. Sasori and Marcus started discussing the fight between the Phoenix and the Grendel and didn't even talk about the other magical beasts or the monsters. They were too fixated on the Phoenix. Sasori tried to get Ezra to join the conversation, but she ignored them, and their fantasy talks and left the classroom.
Sasori sighed deeply. Marcus put his arm on his friend's shoulder, "Don't worry one day she might just acknowledge you and you two can be all lovey dovey just like you want." Sasori went bright red at his friend's comment.
"We..we aren't like that!" Sasori shouted at his friend, all embarrassed. He looked down at the ground, thinking about his position and Ezra's position in society and imagining the gap between them. "We can never be like that." He said softly while looking at the ground.
Marcus could see that his friend was upset, "Don't worry anything is possible. Maybe you can win her heart somehow before she is married in a political marriage so her family can gain more power." Sasori knew that that was the most likely outcome but still chose to see hope in his situation.
__________
Somewhere to the far south of the Academy in the Terror Mountains. "How's the revival of the deformed beings going?" A man in the shadows said.
"We have secured some fine specimens and have began treating them, but it could take along time."
"Don't worry, we have plenty of time to implement the plan. I have the whole world in the palm of my hand, and nothing can happen without my say so, not even those damn celestials can stop me."
