"3! 2! 1! Happy new year!"
The church auditorium erupted in cheers as the countdown to the new year ended. Spouses hugged each other, strangers became familiar, children ran around screaming and the spark of fireworks erupted outside.
"Turn to your neighbor and say 'Neighbor, have a prosperous new year!"
The pastor instructed as he mopped sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.
Turning to Tobi with a wide smile on my face, I said, "Happy new year Tobi!"
Filled with excitement and throwing caution to the wind, I jumped on him, wrapping my legs around his waist.
He seemed hesitant to hold me which was reasonable as we were in church.
With that realization, I began to disentangle myself from him until I felt his arms wrap around my waist and pull me closer to his chest.
"Happy new year, baby," He whispered in my ear as I buried my face in his shoulder as best as I could without my glasses restricting me.
