Dehlia didn't know what to feel at that announcement. For sure she wasn't afraid of death, however, dying in a game and by the hands of something as unbelievable as a vampire wasn't on her list. That would be disgraceful.
She had imagined dying from a heart attack in her house and the neighbors calling the authorities when her corpse began to smell. For sure it was a lonely death but she had Smuff by her side. And speaking about Smuff, did the cat come into the game as well? She had so many questions to ask.
"Fine, so how do I escape?" She asked the system, hoping she would have at least an advantage here.
[With your wits, skills, and strength]
Unfortunately, she sucked greatly at those.
"Oh please," Dehlia rolled her eyes, "I am not good at anything nor can I escape a room full of vampires. They'd snap my head in the blink of an eye. I need an edge over my opponent," she pleaded.
[You can take out a loan then]
"Loan?" her eyes shone with curiosity mixed with hope.
[Skills and weapons are bought with credits points and your loan limit is 20,000 credit points and that equals the price of a skill]
"Twenty thousand credit points for one skill?!" Dehlia screamed.
[plus a ten percent interest]
"What?!" Dehlia shouted again. This has got to be kidding her. If it was ten percent interest, then she would have to pay a total of twenty-two thousand credits. She hasn't even gained one point!
"This is daylight robbery! I can't accept this!" Dahlia refused right away. Perhaps, there was a department she could report this fraud to? Who was she kidding? She was stuck in a game for christ's sake!
[You willingly became a player for this game and must abide by the rules. The essence of this game is to give you experiences that you would not have gained in reality and the only consequence for failure is death. But of course, you still have the freedom to make choices. And now, your quest starts at five… four… three...two.....]
"No, no, no, you can't just leave me like this!" Dehlia was still talking when she heard the system's notification.
[One…. ]
[Ding!]
[Game start! ]
Almost immediately, as if the spell freezing time collapsed, everything went back to the way it was seconds? Minutes ago? Dahlia couldn't exactly tell how much time passed since then or if time went by at all.
It was still the same, that horrid look on the faces of the naturally pale-looking vampires. Dehlia found herself as the center of attention once again and it wasn't in a good way.
For a moment there, Dehlia thought nothing would happen as she stared at the vampires and they stared back at her until one of them shouted, his hands pointing at her, "Get that bad blood,"
Dehlia could have sworn she heard a battle cry as the bulky-looking vampires in the room - which she guessed as the guards - came into view.
She didn't need to second guess, Dehlia broke into a sprint, but not for long because she bumped into a hard wall, no, body and had the breath knocked out of her lungs. The impact was so painful Dehlia could tell she had broken one or two ribs.
Damn, how could they be so strong? And then she was lifted to her feet by the hair causing an agonizing scream to leave her lips. That was when Dehlia remembered she still had one more option.
"Fine, I take it," Dehlia said mentally and hoped to God it heard her, "Whatever you are, I accept to take out a loan,"
When nothing happened, Dehlia's blood ran cold, and was prepared to say her last prayer when the electronic voice sounded in her head.
[Loan request accepted. What skill or weapon would the host like to purchase?]
The system asked and what looked like a screen appeared before her and before her was a list of skills available to her.
[ weapon proficiency
[ Critical thinking
[Willpower…..]
The list went on and on. However, Dehlia discovered that some of the skills had varieties and some were locked up as if they needed a certain level to be opened up for use.
However, her eyes kept scanning for a skill that would help sustain her until she leaves this place. And then, her eyes focused on, [Stealth and detection]
She then read the description below the skill, [Host would remain invisible to opponents however there is still a crack in this skill. The host can still be detected through scent]
It was not the best but Dahlia knew she had discovered the best skill and good thing the price tag was within her loan limit. Vampires were good trackers but her disappearance would give her a good head start.
"I want the skill, stealth, and detection," She requested immediately.
[Skill, Stealth, and detection purchase in progress. Ding! Skill successfully purchased and implanted in host]
Dahlia felt the hairs on her body stand on edge and she actually shivered as something passed through her. She knew at that moment, it was done.
King Romulus sat at his throne, watching the innocent human that was about to be slaughtered. She was actually a fool to think that she could outrun the vampires. Why do humans never accept that?
It was actually entertaining to see such a sudden turn of events and he was prepared to watch the girl killed right in front of him when she suddenly vanished.
Romulus shot up to his feet with lightning speed, what just happened? He was not the only one shocked because the entire vampire in the room seemed to be in the same state.
Not long after, an accusation rented the air, "A witch! She's a witch!"
There was a sudden uproar while Romulus' brow furrowed in confusion. A witch? How was that possible? His stone would have lit up in response to her presence. Something was not right.
