"Where's our mother?" Zera remembered asking her father once. She could never forget how sad his eyes were when he bent down and kissed the top of Zera's forehead.
"Darling," her father had started, looking right into her eyes meaningfully. "Your mother is in a happy place."
It was only when she understood where that happy place was located did she learn why she never once saw her mother.
She never had heard her father speak of her and there was not one photo of her inside their house.
There was an accident. It erased Zera's memory of her mother for some reason and her father had let her see a psychiatrist to make sure those memories will forever be blocked.
When Zera first learned of the memory blocking, she was mad. She didn't talk to her father for more than a week.
Zera was going to let it stretch for long, but she changed her mind, realizing she needed to at least be civil with her father.
