Zera was briefly pulled back. She could feel her chest tightening and her eyes stinging with what she believed were tears about to fall onto her cheeks.
Avalon seemed startled. She looked at Zera with a confused expression.
"Are you alright?"
Zera held her gaze. She was at a loss for words. And at that moment, the swirl of emotions inside of her made her feel confused.
"I... don't know." Zera put a hand over her face. When she touched her cheek, she was surprised to find it wet.
"You pulled yourself out from there." Avalon sounded perplexed. She didn't even realize that they were back at the game itself until she heard a few sobs. She thought it came from her.
The memory of her receiving that call pained her even after death. But she was even more surprised to find that it wasn't her who was crying but Zera Valentine.
