Percy floated in the void endlessly, for who knows how long. While he was floating, he sobbed internally, thinking about his parents and Estelle, his unborn baby sister. Suddenly, a voice rang out, "They're in a better place now." The unknown voice said.
"Thanks man, I needed that." Percy said, collecting himself. Suddenly, he realised, "What? Who are you? What are you? Where am I?" Percy asked, bombarding the owner of that mysterious voice with a deluge of questions that had been plaguing him since he had arrived. "Whoah there, slow down kid," The voice chuckled, "One question at a time. Who am I? I guess you could call me... John." "...John?" Percy asked. "Yes, John. It seems to be a fairly common name in your reality, so I guess that's my name now." The voice replied with a hint of mischievousness.
"Oookay... so, where are we 'John'?" Percy said, the sass dripping from Percy's words like heavily laid syrup on his mother's delicious blue, pancakes. Thinking about that, he started tearing up (internally of course as he had no body) while remembering her death.
John responded, "Well, we are in The Gap Between Universes. Imagine your universe, it's like a sphere. Then imagine hundreds of thousands of spheres just like it in every possible direction, all in contact with each other. Then of course i'm sure that right now, you're thinking something along the line of 'Then what about the space between universes, after all, the spheres will have spaces between them right?' That, my unfortunate friend, is The Gap Between Dimensions! A place between the universes, occupies by multiversal beings such as my self. From here, you can travel to different iterations of your universe, or even different Universes!"
"Wow, that's amazing!" Percy said, cheering up a little. "But if only multiversal beings can be in this space , then how am I here?" he asked. "Well my curious friend-" "please stop with the nicknames" Percy, who was starting to get annoyed with Bob's nicknames for him interrupted. "Well Percy, look over yonder" Bob pointed at a large, glassy sphere. Percy could swear he was seeing a galaxy supercluster, with mini-milky ways and Andromeda galaxies swirling around. However, they were very dim and the surface of the sphere was covered in cracks, making it appear as if it were about to break.
Suddenly, the sphere shattered into many fragments all at once with a great 'CRASH' that seemed to rebound around the very room itself. Space itself seemed to darken a little as the fragments of glass-like material smashed into itself, imploding and then, dissapearing. In it's place stood a new, much smaller sphere. However, this sphere seemed to be slowly growing and at a closer glance, Percy could see new galaxies being formed, clouds of hydrogen and helium condensing into planets and solar systems. he saw the first supermassive black holes being formed, stars and solar systems being formed until eventually, the first galaxy in that universe was formed.
Percy watched in amazement as the process continued, too stunned to speak. "As I was saying," John continued, "The sphere that just got destroyed was you universe, for you see, every universe has a 'main character' or in your case, a Saviour. But what happens if something or someone disrupts the timeline by killing the main character? A butterfly effect happens in which the universe will be destroyed, imploding on itself. Luckily for you, I pulled your soul out of that universe before that happened because I saw the potential in you. You, Perseus Jackson, have been granted a chance, an opportunity to start a new, to be reborn in a new world!"
Percy, happy that he could begin anew, was about to agree when suddenly, he stopped himself. "What's the catch?" He asked. "Very good Percy," John praised "That's why I chose you. You may sometimes lack common sense, but you will always choose to ask the right questions." John continued,"The catch is that you no longer have your previous powers, but also you previous disadvantages. You get three wishes. Choose wisely."
Percy thought for a while, before asking,"What world am I going to? After all, my old world is gone, destroyed." John chuckled. "You are going to the Harry Potter universe Percy" Percy responded, "What is that?" "It's a series of 7 books by J.K Rowling from your universe" John responded "Suuuuure, ask the person with dyslexia if he's read a full book, let alone an entire series." Percy deadpanned" "What? Oh, right." John said and snapped his fingers.
Suddenly, Percy had a body again. Looking aroud, he realised taht the environment had changed. He was now sitting on a comfy couch with a stack of seven book beside him, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets... all the way to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Percy started by picking up the first book in the pile, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. He had just read until the third chapter when he realised something. "I can read!" Percy cried out in surprise. "Of course you can read, I told you I would remove your disadvantages. However, your battle sense and instincts are still there." John replied. "Oh right." Percy said, too stunned to come up with a sassy comeback.
Remembering the book in his hand Percy continued reading... and reading... and reading. Every time he finished a book, he put it down beside him on the other side of the couch and picked pu the next book, continuing to read. Slowly, he fell in love with the characters. The way harry potter defended his friends, the way Dumbledore's eye twinkled with mischief every time he knew something more.
Just like that, Percy read the whole series. When he was done, he lifted his head and said," I know what I want now"
