After half an hour at the range, the captain gathered everyone up.
"Now that you've all had your fun, it's right around the time we start piecing this company together. This will be accomplished with a simple game of capture the flag. You all will be separated into 4 teams, all led by a lieutenant, and will fight for a singular flag. The winner will be based on points gained throughout the game. I will allocate the points as I see fit. But, you are guaranteed a point for everyone minute you hold the flag. You all may be wondering how you are to defend yourselves and the flag, and the answer is simple. Sticks, or to be more precise, police batons. If you are hit 3 times you're out of the game."
Before he could continue, someone raised their hand.
"Question?."
"Yes, will there be cushioning on the batons?."
"No."
"Then will we be wearing any protection?."
"Nothing other than your uniforms, and even those aren't mandatory."
"..."
The man had nothing else to say.
"Now, if there are no more questions, let's set up the teams. Ostrander, Miller, Sayke, Flynn. Come over by me and pick your officers. Sergeants, come forward."
All 16 resident sergeants came and stood at the front, their backs facing the rest.
"Ostrander, you first."
The man named Ostrander was tall, muscular and had a fierce expression. He took some time to contemplate and picked those he thought was best. He said nothing and pointed towards his selection's.
"Silva, Gretsca, Polly, Faron, you're with Ostrander. Miller your turn."
The four designated officers went towards their team leader.
Miller was more lean than Ostrander, also shorter by a head. His eyes were sharp and so was his mind. He scanned the crowd for a moment before making his choice.
"Anton, Lesminn, James, Attorin, You're on Millers team. Sayke pick your choice."
Sayke was larger than Ostrander, both in body and in belly. His body seemed quite sturdy. He took his time and slowly picked his officers.
"Smith, Trenton, Song, Meina."
The four quickly went to Saykes side and stood silently by.
"Flynn."
Flynn was the shortest of the 4 lieutenants, with a goatee and a calm demeanor. He was relaxed with a cigarette in his mouth.
A cigarette?.
This small detail confused Connor a bit. How in the hell did he get a cigarette.
With no choices left, Flynn's officers were quite obvious.
"Hudson, Cherry, Winston, Vale."
The captain continued.
"Now that the officers are out the way, it's time for their sergeants to take their pick. Please refrain from picking the forty over there, they are part of the auxilliary platoon."
He spoke no further, standing there silently, his eyes forward.
The various sergeants took this as their cue to start and went into the blob of soldiers, sifting through them, looking for gold.
Of course, it didn't take long for Connor to be selected.
He would be part of Markus' squad. Not worrying about being picked, he helped Markus make his selection's.
Withing 10 minutes, everyone had been picked.
The other members of Cherry squad were, Springer, Jackson, Henderson, Fulmer, Paris, Frazier, Blake and Rose.
Seeing that everyone had finished, the captain spoke out.
"Everyone assemble with your full teams! Your game is right around the corner!."
