"Hey"
When Bella got to the hospital, she saw Nurse Robinson been surrounded by female nurses, laughing, they seemed to be having a good time. All of a sudden she had this sour feeling in her, which she recognized as... Jealousy? She was jealous? Probably because of how happy he seems and how miserable she feels now.
"Miss Bella, you are here. I've been expecting you"
Bella's heart did a backflip at that point, it was then that she realized that she might have a little something on this hot male nurse.
'Now is not the right time to have a crush'
"Oh really?" Bella responded.
"Yes, let's move to somewhere more quiet"
Nurse Robinson walked to a more peaceful place.
"Ok, it's better here. You can have your sit" He quietly brought out a brown file and handed it over to Bella.
"Miss Bella, this is your results. Congratulations"
The file felt like an hot potato in Bella's hands. Though Bella knew that it was true and that she was already pregnant, she couldn't help but wish that it was all a dream, that it's was not true... But this was the positive results slapping her right in the face.
"I can't keep it" Bella muttered as she touched her stomach.
"What did you say?" Robinson didn't get her but he noticed she didn't really seem happy hearing the news.
"Can I get an abortion in this hospital?"
Robinson was dumbfounded.
Bella repeated her words, as she looked at Robinson in the eyes as she pointed t at her stomach, "I want to get rid of it"
"Can this hospital help me with it?"
Nurse Robinson was shocked, 'How do I deal with this?'
"Are you free now? I'd like to ask you out for a meal, if possible"
Bella frowned, This was not the response she was looking for. But she still nodded.
"Ok, give me a minute." Nurse Robinson walked back to the counter and talked in small voices with the female nurses, he then went into another room and came back few minutes later.
"Alright, I'm ready" Robinson said.
Bella looked at him, he wasn't in his uniform anymore,
'He looked so good in his T-shirt and jeans...' she thought.
"Isn't all this disturbing your work?" Bella inquired.
"No not at all, I'm on morning duty and it's almost 2pm anyways." Robinson said as she shrugged his shoulders.
"Oh" Bella said as she followed Robinson out.
"There's a restaurant just around the corner. We'll be there soon."
"Alright"
Robinson looked at her as she had her head bowed down. He had a lot going through his mind, how was he going to convince her against her already made decision.
Robinson suddenly stopped walking, this abrupt stop caused Bella who was walking with her heads bowed to bump into Robinson back.
"Ouch" Bella cried out as tears pooled up in her eyes. Robinson also felt that something had bumped into him. He turned back, he immediately saw red- nose Bella.
"Oh, I'm so sorry" Robinson suddenly cupped Bella's face, as he looked at her in concern.
A red blush ran up Bella's cheeks as she felt the warmth of Robinson hands. She felt greedy for more but she knows that she is not worthy of such. Bella immediately removed Robinson hands from her face.
"I'm fine, thank you"
"Are you sure? Your nose is a bit red" Robinson said.
"I said I'm fine!" Bella shouted a bit. Robinson was a bit taken aback by her reaction. He just accustomed it to be part of the whole pregnancy package.
"I'm sorry for raising my voice, but I really am fine. Let's go in." Bella said as she walked into the restaurant.
Robinson followed after her shaking his head. They both sat opposite each other.
A waiter came around and asked for their order.
Bella looked through the menu and frowned. Robinson observed her closely, he had purpose brought her to a restaurant that specialize in undercooked seafoods and cold cuts.
"I'll just have a cup of water thank you"
When Robinson heard this he was so happy, 'It seems that there's still hope'
He ordered a glass of freshly made juice. The waiter left after getting their orders.
"So why don't we get to know each other first... I'm Jay Robinson and I work at the hospital as you know."
"So Robinson isn't your first name?" Bella inquired.
"Nah, I'm to use it at work though... it's a work thing"
"Oh ok"
"What about you where do you work?"
It was at this moment the waiter brought their order to their table. Robinson watched as Bella took a zip of water.
"I'm currently unemployed"
As soon as Bella said that the mood Robinson tried so hard to create was gone as the atmosphere felt so heavy and depressing.
"Is that the reason?" Bella nodded as she kept looking down, she felt so embarrassed and inhumane right now, 'Probably I would feel better when it's done' she thought within herself.
Bella's thought was interrupted by Robinson's next words, "You'll regret it"
Bella looked up at him, stunned, 'He seemed so sure' she thought.
Bella wanted to ask how, how was he so sure that she would regret her decision? "How..."
"I have seen them, a lot of them actually... They come in to the hospital and ask me the same question you asked me"
Robinson looked at Bella, when he saw that she seemed to be paying good attention to what he was saying he continued, "Then, I also adviced them against it like I'm advising you right now. But they all gave me excuses on why they think that they can't care for the child, money factor and all but I told them exactly this..." Robinson paused for a bit and took a zip of his juice.
When he saw that Bella was getting impatient, he continued, "... I told then that I, Jay Robinson under no condition support abortion unless the mother's life is in danger. This is what I believe to be true, and their lives weren't in danger. I believe that foetus growing in you is a life just like a sprouting seed." Robinson paused his inspiring talk here.
But Bella wanted to know if those women regretted their mistakes.
"So did they regret doing it?"
"Very much so. Because in a way all mothers feel some kind of attraction for their child." Robinson saw that Bella didn't seem to be buying it added, "I notice that you didn't order any meal, why?"
"That's because.... that's because..." Bella looked for a reasonable reason why she didn't wanna order, she found countless but she knew that they were not the actual reasons why she didn't order a thing.
"It's because you already care about your child. All the meals they serve in this restaurant is not advisable for pregnant women. So you not ordering a thing proofs to me that in your subconscious, you care for your child."
Bella was shocked at his revelation. She touched her stomach and thought, 'I care for this little guy?'
Robinson took a sip of his drink and continued, "I think I've said enough, if you still insist on getting the child aborted. I won't judge you because I don't know your circumstance. But please just promise me to give it more thoughts"
"Why?" Bella asked in a low voice.
"Hun?" Robinson was genuinely lost on what she was trying to say.
'Was she asking him why she should give it more thoughts?'
"I..." Robinson was not able to continue his words, because Bella spoke up at that point.
"Why are you so concerned about me? No... why are you so much against it?"
Robinson frowned deeply on hearing this. Bella thought she had asked too much and was just about to tell him not to bother when Robinson started talking.
"I heard from my parents that I was almost aborted by my mom when she found out I was pregnant. My dad wasn't married to her yet, and she was so scared of fessing up to her parents. Then a good friend of hers adviced her just as I'm advising you that she should go for abortion and no one will ever know and no one will blame her. My mom listened to her and went into the hospital to inquire about how to go about it..." Robinson paused and soothe his sore throat with a sip of his drink.
"... Then she met a good nurse who also adviced her against it and that was how she first fessed up to her parents. Of course when they found out they were livid and all but they still accepted her and forgave her mistakes. She told me that when they invited my dad home and broke the news to him. He was estatic, he immediately got down on his knees, thanked my mom for keeping me and he asked her to marry him right there."
Bella was moved by Robinson's story. She looked down and thought about her own case. She laughed at herself mockingly.
