A young man of about 25 years can be seen walking up the stairs and through the varenda.
His face value could be said to be top notch, as the ladies around, although already familiar with him couldn't help but let out a small gasp at how handsome he looked.
Damien stopped at a door and took out a key from his pocket and opened the door.
"Click" was the sound that came from him locking the door.
Ever since he left home, with his little earnings this apartment was the only one he could afford now. When he first moved in, ladies living in other apartments barged into his room as the lock to his room was spoilt. The first thing he did with the remaining cash that he had at hand was to repair the lock... Now everything could be said to be alright and peaceful.
"What to eat now?" Damien said as he slumped on his sofa that seemed to have returned to the manufacturing company.
Damien looked towards the door, seemingly expecting someone...
"She should be here by now"
He looked at the door for a little while before getting up and going into the kitchen.
"Whatever I knew she would soon give up" Damien said, a hint of disappointment could be seen in his eyes that he himself did not notice.
Rose Wilson, was a lady he came to know the day he left his Father's house.
After his Mother died, his Father's behavior towards him changed drastically... Although he always felt that his Father never liked him but at least he tolerated him for his mother's sake but suddenly his mother fell down unconscious.
She was rushed to the hospital, it was there that they were informed that she had stage 4 breast cancer and has few months to live.
Damien was heartbroken, his Father, Roy was more. They took her home and let her enjoy her last days.
"Don't blame me and your Father"
This was the last sentence his mother uttered before she gave up the ghost.
After his mom died, his dad became so addicted to drinking and never took care of him and always verbally abused him calling him a piece of bad luck.
He endured all that because he felt as his child, he should be the one to take care of him. One day, he came back from work his father was all sloppy and dirty - all drunk. As he went over and tried to pick him up, he was pushed away by his dad, "Get out, I don't wanna see you. You caused it, you caused her to die... if it wasn't because she wanted you to experience what it felt like growing up in a real family, she would have gone for treatment" Roy sobbed heavily as he muttered something under his breath
"What?" Damien could not get what he said, he could only think to himself, 'Did dad just say he regretted something?'
"Get out" Roy said in a whisper, few minutes later he picked himself up and shouted,
"Gett outtttt!!!" Roy started getting all violent
"Dad, you can't be serious" Damien said.
Roy looked at him and went into his room, brought out an already packed luggage, as if he had already made up his mind before his son came home.
"I can't believe this" Damien felt as if his whole world was collapsing.
"I'm sorry, I can't handle it anymore" This was Roy's last words as he pushed Damien out of the house. Damien was dumbfounded. He still couldn't believe what just happened. Ok maybe he could.
Damien signed, at least he couldn't get any worse... but just as he thought that the sky became dark and a light drizzle started.
"Even the heavens are mocking me... ha"
As he said that a loud rumbling sounded as the wind became heavier and the rain became more fierce. Damien felt like he was at his wits...
As he walked through the rain, his head bowed down he wondered what to do now.
As he walked with his head downwards, something bumped into him,
"I'm sorry" she said...
Damien looked up to see the most beautiful lady he has never seen before.
"Young Miss... Young Miss" Shouts could be heard from afar.
"Young Miss?" Damien was confused
"Shhhh" the lady said as she put her hands over his mouth and pulled Damien into a dark corner where they could not be seen.
Damien held his breath and he could not help looking at the face so close to him, her beautiful blue eyes and her long lashes... He looked at her dressing and seemed to blush, he carried his eyes away and thought, 'Another rich little princess'
Few men in black rushed past them and kept shouting, 'Young Miss'
Rose signed and thought, 'What an hassle'. She had just had a fight with her parents about her being engaged to her dad's business partner. Blinded by rage, she ran out of the house and now, Rose looked up and saw him, she lost her breath for a second and it took a while before she noticed what she was doing, she therefore pushed him back, after all she's never been so close with another guy before.
Before Damien could continue admiring her beauty, he was suddenly pushed back by the lady.
"They are gone" Rose said softly and a tint of pink appeared on her cheeks.
"Oh" That was the only thing Damien could say.
He looked down at Rose, then he sighed removed his jacket and covered her with it before he picked up his luggage and started to go.
Rose was little stunned by his actions, she was completely not expecting him to do that. She looked down at her self and found out that her red colored bra could be outlined. She pulled the jacket over her tightly and ran after Damien.
"Wait up!" She shouted. Damien continued walking at his pace as if he didn't hear her.
Rose picked up her pace and finally caught up with Damien, she came to his front and said,
"I asked you to wait, didn't you hear me?" Rose taught it's probably because of the rain.
Seeing that he was just looking at her, she continued, "Thank you for your help just now, and also for the jacket"
"Convenience" Damien answered her and walked right past her. Rose was stunned as she understood that he meant it was just a matter of convenience.
Rose once again chased after him, and held his hand, Damien stopped walking and looked at the well manicured set of nails, he could feel the softness and smoothness of her palm. Damien felt uncomfortable, he tried to withdraw his hands from her but it seems like they were stuck.
He signed and looked at the girl's face, "What do you want?"
"Big brother, I'm all cold and alone on this deserted road, and I don't have wear to go"
"Go home" that was the reply she received as Damien continues to walk, in his mind he thought, 'i'm currently homeless, you think I have the time to care for another'
The little girl kept following him.
Damien was tired, he turned back and looked at her...
"Big Brother, I have nowhere to go. I'll just follow behind, you won't even notice you have extra company, all right?" Rose said as she smiled.
'Too bright' this was what Damien thought when he saw her smile. He did not say anything.
Rose was overjoyed, she took his silence as tactic approval and continued after him.
"Big brother, big brother, my name is Rose Wilson... what's yours?"
If Rose's elder brother could hear this now, he could be so jealous that he'll vomit blood as his own young sister never called him this and sounded way too soft.
"Damien"
"Damien" Rose called out and continued, "What a wonderful name"
"Big brother, how old are you? I'm just 22 years old"
"Big brother, where are you going?"
"Big Brother..."
"Big Brother..."
This constant chattering continued, Rose's promise of keeping quiet could be said to have been thrown out of the window.
This was how Damien met Rose Wilson. free that night, she somehow found out about his newly rented apartment and visited everyday. She also brought some food along with her too.
This became something regular, that he something delibrately left his apartment door opened. But today...
Damien quickly got over it as he has been used to been disappointed all these years.
Damien walked towards the small fridge and opened it, he sighed in disappointment as his hands moved through his black hair.
Damien grabbed some loaves of bread and toasted it... before grabbing a packet of milk, showing expiring soon at the back.
"Ding"
That was the sound of the toasted bread being ready.
Damien grabbed a plate, served himself and sat there, he started eating up his food and he didn't notice that he was constantly checking the door with the corner of his eyes.
