Chapter 5 - Kidnapping In Broad Daylight

After about 2 minutes of walking, I had finally concluded that this road led to nowhere and the fog was getting thicker by the minute.

"shit" I whispered as the pain shot through my body.

"I have the worst luck in the world" I exclaimed loudly as I grabbed my ankle to inspect the fresh wound on the bottom of my foot.

A sharp pebble had gone through the hole in my shoes and resulted in a pretty deep wound which caused me a good amount of pain.

I hopped on one foot to get to a fallen tree branch on the side of the road in order to better inspect the injury.

As I took off my shoe, I noticed that my sock was now covered in blood.

"Ouch!" I winced while taking off the sock and closed my eyes before pressing the fabric onto the wound to stop the bleeding.

When I opened my eyes again, I noticed that the fog was noticeably thinner now and therefore I could see much better.

I was looking around again trying to locate where I was when I noticed something that I'm definitely sure wasn't there before.

A petite child was crouching a few meters away from me.

The child that looked around 4-5 years old was wearing a strange attire, especially in such a weather, which consisted of only a dirty undershirt and a pair of pants that were ripped at the knees.

She was visibly shaking while softly sobbing and I knew it wasn't only because of the cold.

There was a man pacing around an intimidating black vehicle that had stopped a few feet away from the child.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed some deep scratches on the girl's knees that were bleeding.

The cruel man seemed to be shouting at the distressed child instead of calming her and as the result, the sobbing only grew louder.

'Should I go and help her? No, I should go and confront that guy first.

What is wrong with him? Why is he shouting at a child like that?

He definitely has some serious anger issues' I thought to myself as I stood up.

I took a deep breath and clenched my shoe in one hand and the sock in the other as I started walking to them, but nobody seemed to have noticed my presence yet.

The child who had stopped crying was now slowly starting to get off the ground and wiped her fragile hands on her pants.

The man had also stopped shouting and was now going around the car to open the back door.

'What is he doing? Is he trying to kidnap her?! Oh no. shit'.

I started walking faster while all these morbid thoughts occupied my mind.

"Umm, excuse me, sir? Hello? May I ask what are you trying to do right now, kidnapping in broad daylight?

Well technically there is no sun but it's still daytime and what you are trying to do is still wrong no matter what time of the day it is.

Um, Sir? Can you hear me?"

'I think he didn't hear me. I should speak louder'

I cleared my throat and was about to try again when I noticed the man opening the door to the vehicle, as if in slow motion.
