Alex ignored Silver's words and focused on his arms. While his right hand had some sort of ointment applied to it which reduced the pain drastically. The left was bandaged roughly with two sticks attached to it from the sides to prevent it from shifting. Alex simply guessed his broken arm was shifted into position while he was asleep.
The last thing he could remember was delivering a devastating blow to the enemy hunter before passing out. Right now they were in a ruined building and probably someone's living room in the past. He laid on a wooden table, riddled with holes caused by termites. He was topless right now and his hairband was gone so his hair looked messy.
At a dark corner was silver who sat on an old couch, gazing at Alex with a slight smile on his face. For some reason, he seemed to be in a good mood but Alex didn't care. He peered out the window not too far away and was disappointed to find out it was already nighttime. He couldn't help but wonder how long he has been unconscious since he was feeling really hungry.
"How long?" Alex asked calmly as he noticed a white bag with some burger and coke in it. He didn't hesitate to tear it open and start eating.
For some reason, he felt hungrier than usual and he slightly suspected this is because he pushed his deviant powers too far.
"Just a few hours... Had to drive deeper into this shit hole... You owe me" Silver said calmly but Alex simply frowned at his words.
"Why didn't you drive us back to the nearest military base?" Alex asked with a raised eyebrow and tried not to show his annoyance.
He failed to understand why Silver chose to take them deeper into the enemy territory instead of taking them back to the military base where they will be safe and be treated well.
"We are yet to capture a mutant beast for your beast gear... We are not leaving until then, no matter how bad things get" Silver said with a yawn, making Alex frown.
"Even if we are at the brink of death?" Alex asked casually without looking at Silver.
"Yes.." Silver responded shamelessly and then threw something at him.
Even without looking, Alex's quick reflexes kicked in as his right hand stretched and caught the object. Opening up his hand he saw a brown gem glad the size of his fist. He could feel some sort of energy surging within it, leaving him stunned.
"A beast core?" Alex was stunned by the discovery and gazed at Silver as if he had seen a ghost.
"Hehehehe! After all the effort you put did you think I would let that bastard keep all the goodies to himself? Thankfully his spear tore a hole in the skull of the dead dog so it wasn't difficult for me to find the beast core." Silver said proudly while patting his chest but seeing Alex's face turn ugly the smile on his face vanished slowly.
"You are telling me... You gave a hunter a reason to come after us and still didn't take us somewhere safe?... Do you think it would be difficult for the hunter to track us? We barely survived man!" Alex slapped his face and laid down on the table again as he focused on the beast core in his hands.
Swoosh!
Slowly he felt warm energy pierce his body, running throw his veins and circulating all across his body. Feeling this, Alex was stunned and he hastily gazed at his right hand only to realize the beast core kept shrinking in size while the energy surged all through his body.
The hunger he once felt was gone and he also noticed the minor cuts and scratches across his body was gone. His eyes were wide open with shock while Silver was lost in thought, wondering how he made a stupid mistake. He drove to this place with a car leaving tracks behind so Alex isn't wrong. The hunter will definitely track them and the real question now is this...
Can they win?
Judging based on the enemy's strength and speed, he should be slightly stronger and faster than Alex, meaning he is most likely a D-rated hunter. His strange footwork makes him harder to deal with since his movements are hard to predict, that's why he had the advantage when battling them.
Also, the man had greater technique and more skills to pick from and as First years in the military academy, they are yet to master one secret technique, and then there are the beast gears.
Silver was sure his spear and boots are beast gears and that's all he knows of. Most wolf-level beast gears don't have special abilities but it will be dumb to expect that.
"Hope for the best but expect the worst" Silver muttered as he considered the possibility that the enemy was yet to show the true abilities of the beast gears he had on.
Their chances of winning an opponent like him are barely up to thirty percent and that is if the hunter is a powerless human and not a Deviant. It became clear to him that their chances of losing are extremely high and when he shot a glance at Alex he was even more stunned.
Alex laid on the table quietly with his eyes shut tight but his veins were bright yellow, bulging out from various parts of his body. Silver could clearly see the energy flowing through his body and was too stunned to speak.
He saw the beast core in Alex's hands slowly losing its glow prompting him to rise to his feet and approach his sleeping friend to understand what was going on.
What the hell is happening and when are humans able to absorb the energy within the beast cores directly?
What kind of effect would it have on Alex and would he gain the power of the mutant beast by absorbing the core?
