Samyra's POV:

Just like this my sleep is interrupted and groaning I get out of bed to get ready for yet another day.

"I am up already." I open my door and shout to let my mom know or else within 5 minutes her voices will reach my ears saying I am getting late while I literally would have over an hour to leave the house. This is what moms do, at least Indian moms do. Either God has made their clocks to work faster or ours to work way slower, either way, getting yelled by my mom was surely not on my wish list today. So, here I am, standing in front of my hurricane hit wardrobe thinking what I can wear.

From the heap of dresses, I take out black straight pants and pair them with a red plaid tucked in shirt. I take my tote back and throwing in my books and pens, make my way downstairs.

"I don't understand how, even after waking up so early, you end up being on the verge of getting late." My mother exclaims.

"Mom, you know how it is. I wasn't able to decide what to wear only." Trust me, it was the wrong thing to say. Wanna know why?

"Yeah, yeah. How will you find your clothes or decide what to wear? For that you should be able to look at what all you have, but you don't even clean your cupboard. It feels like a garbage dump, and I am sure you don't even know what all clothes you own. What will you do when you will get married?" My mother taunted me as usual.

"Really, mom? You don't even need to ask me, my husband will do all these menial tasks, I will have more important work to do." I say smirking slightly knowing my mom's over the top reaction that I am soon gonna get.

"Like?"

"Like giving him instructions and telling him what to do. Someone needs to guide him, right?" I give her a mischievous smile.

"Oh God! I am sure your in-laws are going to curse me for giving birth to such a daughter. God please save me from that embarrassment and tell my daughter to do some work."

"Oh God! Please tell my mom to not be this dramatic and give me my breakfast or else I will definitely be late to college." We both burst out laughing.

"Sit, I will get you some food." She says before rushing inside the kitchen to get my breakfast.

I sit and wait for my mom to get me some delicious food and think of the classes I will have to bear throughout the day. I don't like attending college because college means people and people mean being social which I just despise. I like keeping my head down and be left in one corner to wallow myself in my studies and own thoughts.

I am brought of my thoughts at the smell of yummy aloo paratha (potato stuffed bread). I roll them before jumping out of me seat seeing I have to rush to college.

"See mom, this is why I need to rush every day... because you don't give me food on time. Byeeeeee. Will see you in the evening."

Shouting this, I make my way towards the car where the driver is already waiting for me. I ask him to hurry up, I have five minutes to rush to my class before the lecture starts, by the time I reach my college.

I enter the room and hurriedly grab my seat and as if on the cue, the professor enters. I somehow bear the boring lectures before making my way towards the canteen with my only friend, Anmol. We take a seat in a secluded corner making small conversations about anything and everything when the murmur in the cafeteria increases multiple folds.

"Looks like the Prince has entered the campus today." Anmol remarks and we both snicker. By the Prince we meant none other than, Mr. Arjun Kapoor. Arjun is our senior and so I haven't met him personally but from what I know he looks very handsome and is kinda rude and arrogant and a big playboy. Again, I am no one to judge him since I haven't met him or seen him for that matter of fact.

"Let's get going, we have to reach another class and seeing the prince is here, I am sure in no time the cafeteria will be full of people, especially girls." I say this and we make our exit from the cafeteria.

The rest of the day passes by in a jiffy and before I know it I am sitting in front of my parents because apparently there is something important they wanna talk to me about.

"Can you guys already be out with it now?"

"Okay, so Samyra, since you already know that your father is not well, and you never know what might happen to him the very next moment,-"

"Mom nothing is gonna happen to dad, okay? He just had a minor attack and the doctor said that we just have to be a bit precautious, that's it." I try to reason and convince myself more than my mom.

Dad recently had a heart attack and though, it wasn't a major one, it could've been worse and the next one might be a fatal one. But he cannot just leave us like that, right? God can't be that cruel.

"Love, we both know the reality, but coming to the point, we want to see you settled. I want to die in peace knowing I have fulfilled all my responsibilities."

"What do you mean dad?" I feel like I know where this is going but I hope it isn't going there. I am not ready for it just yet.

"We want you to get married." Well, this is what I did not want to happen.

"Bu... but dad, mom, I don't wanna get married. I haven't even graduated college yet. It's too soon. Please." I am almost teary eyed at this point.

"We know you think its early but dear try and understand our point of view."

"But no dad. I will have mom with me, and nothing is gonna happen to you. Please I don't wanna get married right now."

"Samyra you are getting married and that's final, you better accept it."

"Bu... but, why? I don't..."

"Tomorrow the guy's father is coming to meet you. He is a good friend of mine and even the guy is nice and you are getting married to him, that's it."

"Do I have no say in whom I choose?"

"Well, you can see the family tomorrow and then decide for yourself but I will be expecting a valid reason for your rejection."

"Dad please, I don't wanna get married now." I try convincing him again hoping my luck helps me.

"Samyra-"

"Dad, how about you fix the groom and I can get married later on?" I suggest. This is the least I can hope for him to agree.

"I don't want to discuss this further Samyra, I want to see you settled and happy. I should take rest now." He says leaving no room for further discussion.

"Dad, marriage can never define what being settled means. I am gonna go and sleep." I say seeing they have turned deaf ears to my words.

"Samyra, whatever we are doing is for your own good." My mother comments.

Without responding I go and think how much my life has changed and will change in coming days. What if I have to compromise and settle down just for the sake of my parents?

Isn't it what you are already doing anyways by getting tied in a marital relationship?

Here's to hoping that everything goes well. Making a quick prayer, I doze off to sleep knowing tomorrow will be a day full of surprises.
