(One of the Entrances to the Devil Underworld Territory)
"-unbelievably rude!" Yelled a woman in a dark orange sundress with a veil gently draped over her brown hair. She had a kind and mature aura about her that sang of being able to sooth and comfort like a gentle fire, but for now she was scolding another woman. "You can't just fire off arrows like that."
"It'll be fine auntie." The other woman said dismissively, lowering a glowing composite bow of glowing silver. "I still haven't been able to actually land a hit on him, and it looks like that tend continues." She had long blue hair with two bangs framing her face and green eyes and wore an outfit of white and light blue that was designed for mobility with thigh high brown boots, and a white cloth that left one leg exposed.
"And this is supposed to be a human? Are you sure you're not getting weaker young lady?" Asked an old man with long white hair and beard, wearing blue and gold robes and hat, with a monocle lens over his left eye. Behind him was another woman with long silver hair in white armor with blue and gold accents that left her midriff open, which was clothed in a black leotard that hugged her curvy figure.
"He's one of the very few men I actually respect." She returned. "Not that an old lech like yourself understands anything beyond power." Anything that could've been said was held off as Ichigo and the Biblical leaders arrived, the Soul Reaper releasing the Angels and Satans from his Kido before flashing the archer woman a friendly smile.
"Hey Artemis. Nice to see you again after six years." He said, tossing her arrow back to her as she snatched it out of the air and returned with her own grin.
"You could've come by to visit anytime you wanted. You're certainly fast enough." The archer countered as her bow and arrow flashed with light before disappearing.
"Hard to consider visiting an option, especially if Aphrodite is still mad at me." Ichigo dryly returned before turning to the woman with the veil. "I'm glad to see you in good health, lady Hestia." He said with a slight nod, earning an annoyed pout from the woman.
"I thought I told you to call me big sis or auntie." She said with a slight whine. "You're almost like a member of the family."
"Anyone you like is family to you." The Shinigami responded before turning to the Biblical leaders and the old man, watching the exchange in surprise. "Everyone, might I introduce lady Hestia and lady Artemis of Olympus." Serafall was the first to recover as she stepped forward with a bow.
"Greetings my ladies," she said as she went into diplomatic mode, "I am the Satan Serafall Leviathan. Pleased to make your acquaintance." She then gestured to the others in their group. "These are Satans; Sirzechs Lucifer, Ajuka Beelzebub, and Falbium Asmodeus, the Governor General of the Fallen Angels; Azazel, and the leader of the Angels; Seraphim Michael." As introductions were exchanged, Artemis took notice of the Leviathan's similar dress to Ichigo's own and shooting him and annoyed glare.
"I'm sorry, did our arrival interrupt your wedding to yet ANOTHER woman?" She accused, making Ichigo flinch and raise his hands defensively.
"Hey, you know me Artemis. I'm not like that." The hybrid claimed. "Not before we tie the knot. That's the rule my wives imposed."
"I can confirm." Serafall said with a pout. "I keep trying to seduce him and he's never cracked." Artemis turned her glare to the Satan before letting out a sigh with a smile.
"Right. One of the few men that could resist Aphrodite and here I am doubting him. Old habits die very hard." She said before regarding the betrothed couple. "So, are you married and what brought about this union?"
"In order; not yet, we're waiting for after the Rating Game to finalize it and mostly a mix of spiting some old fashioned purist relics and the desire to build alliances." Serafall answered, earning a scoff from the old man.
"Breaking bread with lifelong enemies and now latching on to some humans? What happened to the pride and strength of the Devils?" He asked with a condescending sneer, making Ichigo raise an eyebrow.
"And this old jackass is?" He asked, causing some to snort out a laugh while others looked shocked and embarrassed. The old man just seemed amused as he smirked at the hybrid.
"I suppose I should introduce myself. I am the chief God of the Northern Territory, Odin." The God said, holding out a hand for Ichigo, who took and shook it. "The girl behind me is my Valkyrie attendant, Rossweisse."
"Ichigo Kurosaki, Captain Commander of the Gotei 16 and Shogun of Japan's supernatural." He said, sensing a quick flash of something but not anything dangerous, before the two pulled their hands back.
"So, would we be negotiating in the future or do you have someone else handle the boring political stuff?" Odin asked with a knowing smirk, with Ichigo letting out his own small laugh.
"I'm not so proud as to deny I'd be leaving that to my wife Yasaka or, rather, to Amaterasu. She should prove herself still somewhat relevant after dumping this Shogun role on me." He said, shifting to a grumble.
"No respect for the Gods, eh?" The Nordic God asked.
"Respect is earned and you break even, Skollvaldr." Ichigo said, causing Rossweisse to gasp.
"How dare you!" She shrieked, eyes filled with rage as she generated a magic circle in her hand. "Lord Odin-!" she was stopped as Odin caught her hand.
"Wears that title with honor and won't deny it. I've made it a point many times that I'm not to be trusted." He said, slowly lowering his bodyguard's hand and dispelling her magic. "Sorry about her. She's got a lot of potential and is one of my best, but her stiff attitude is a detriment. That's why, despite her looks, she's still single." He said with a sigh, causing the Valkyrie to gape in shock before going to her knees and sulking, whispering about her desire for a boyfriend.
"Really? Seems like a catch to me." Ichigo returned as he crossed his arms went into mild thoughts of his friends and comrades. "Reminds me of a dear friend others would refer to as a 'stick in the mud'. But if he could find love, anyone can." He felt a tugging on his shirt, courtesy of a teary eyed Rossweisse that was still on her knees and looking up at him with admiration and renewed hope.
"Thank you. You're a good person." She said, bringing everything to a halt as they tried to process what was happening.
"S-shall we show you to your rooms for the night?" Sirzechs asked, hoping to get things back on track. "The journey must've been a long one."
"I could use a nice bath." Odin admitted as a platform of glowing blue Reishi manifested.
"Okay, everyone on the platform. Sirzechs give me directions." Ichigo said as everyone climbed onto the Reishi... and Rossweisse was still staring at him.
(The Next Morning)
"And that's the gist of it." Serafall said to her sister and her peerage, explaining the plan of using the Rating Game as a distraction while a stealth operation went throughout the Devil's domain to find members of the Old Satan Faction and other more questionable elements of Devil society and tag all of them. They were inside an empty room in the arena, decorated in the Devils' preferred Western European aesthetic.
"Your school dream is a guarantee so you don't necessarily have to win, but it would be preferable if you did." Ichigo said, standing off to the side. "Remind everyone that bloodlines and Sacred Gears are not everything and that anyone can rise to great potential, the difference between luck of birth and actual effort." Sona nodded to her siblings before her peerage lined up. "And when someone mentions 'cake', then you can end the game."
"We will not fail." She said with finality as they walked through the door. Once they did they were teleported to a new large room with the Gremory peerage on the other side, six chairs to the Sitri's seven. In the center of the room was a table with two chairs, a chess board with blue and red pieces, and an old fashioned chess timer clock with both set at two hours. Between the chess game and the chairs at the end was a magic teleportation circle and two stands with a deck of cards on both, one with a sword and the other with a shield. Rias and Sona made their way forward toward the chess board as Grayfia and Orihime appeared in person.
"Before I explain the rules for the audience, I must announce that no Phoenix Tears will be donated for this Rating Game." Grayfia stated before gesturing to Orihime who happily waved to the cameras. "Instead, Soul Society has lent one of its best healers, Orihime Kurosaki, to this match. Now, if the Kings will take their seats?" Sona sat on the side with the blue pieces while Rias took the red. "Now, for this game-" The Lucifer Queen started as the two rivals glared at each other, ready for their fierce battle, "the two kings are to play each other in chess. The pieces represent their peerage members and when the pieces meet, the corresponding peerage members are to do battle in 1v1 matches with the attacker taking from the sword deck for their advantage while the defender takes from the shield deck for their disadvantage. If the attacker wins then the defender piece is removed but if the defender wins then their piece stays and the attacker is returned to their previous spot."
"Example: If a rook travels across the board to take a knight, but the Devil representing that knight wins the subsequent fight, then the rook piece is sent back across the board. This rule is modified for pawn pieces, given how many of them there are. If the defending pawn loses the fight then two pawn pieces are removed at the attacking King's choice. Finally, each peerage member is required to fight until each piece they represent is completely out of play. Meaning that, despite both sides having incomplete peerages, both sides are expected to have their Knights, Rooks, and Pawns fight multiple rounds and 'checkmate' does not apply. Only attacking and defeating the king in combat ends the game." This gained a look of surprise from Rias while Sona kept her expression calm, expecting a complicated game beyond the usually normal 'just fight' matches of previous Rating Games. Her mission was to be a distraction and buy time, but her future brother expected her peerage to show the Gremory how vicious battle can actually be. The rules were set and the game was ready.
"Let's begin." Sona said, moving her first pawn forward and hitting the button on the timer, starting Rias's turn.
(With Neliel)
"This was just plain rude." The green haired Arrancar scolded as a man choked on the blood filling his throat from where she slashed. "I was on a nice walk and you lot come out to attack me?" Around them were a few more Devils, some with deep cuts or missing chunks of their bodies while a couple more had their necks snapped completely. "I suppose it doesn't matter anyway." Neliel proceeded to wipe the blood off of her katana as Yoruichi and Yuushiro appeared, in human form and as naked as the day they were born.
"That's the last of them, and Falbium's people are on their way." The elder Shihoin said as she stretched her neck. "You're getting better Yuushiro." The younger let out a bashful chuckle, scratching his head while Neliel flicked her wrist to the air. A dark split appeared as the Garganta opening formed, revealing a large number of black clad humans with dark cloaks, the leader was a tall and broad balding man dressed with the usual Shinigami attire but with a lieutenant's badge on his arm.
"Captain. Lady Yoruichi. We've brought a change of clothes for you in case you needed it." He said as two of the unit stepped forward with a set of black clothes with a Zanpakuto on one of them. The rest were disposing of the bodies with the Hado spell Haien, burning them away in purple flames till not even ash remained.
"Thank you Marechiyo." Yuushiro said as he and his sister quickly dressed in the spandex like pants and shirts that only really covered their front before tying on their own cloaks. "Right. Soldiers. You have your mission; infect people of interest with surveillance bacteria and tag other targets. Ready?" The soldiers of the Onmitsukido each held up a compact with a skull on it, opening them to reveal a black ink. "Proceed." The Stealth Force commander ordered as he got his own ink and they all proceeded to draw on the back of their right hands.
"Spectral hands, reaching from shadows, the final touch to all within your grasp. Koroshido #2, Saigo no Shiage." They all chanted as the complex pattern flashed before covering their hands in black. With one final nod, the stealth force disappeared in a flash and set about their grim task. All the while, Nel just watched.
"...I'm gonna finish my walk." She decided, continuing to wander aimlessly. "Such a lovely day."
The assassination Kido line is inspired and adapted from the various Hassans' Zabaniya. Saigo no Shiage, or 'Final Touch', is a combination of Cyber Phantasy and Delusional Heartbeat with a touch of Mayuri's human bombs from his first appearence, meaning every target they touch will be rigged to blow up at Soul Society's discretion.
(Rating Game)
"Lady Sona, please select your fighter." Grayfia said as the first round was determined, a match between pawn pieces with Rias being the attacker. The timer between the two paused as the fighting portion of the Rating Game was beginning to start.
"Ruruko Nimura." The Sitri heiress said, knowing her Pawn's chances against Issei. The short girl in question stood up, wearing the Kuoh Academy uniform with green striped stocking and brown hair tied in twin ponytails. An addition for this match was a belt lined with pouches and knives.
"Ruruko and Issei, step forward to the pedestal and take one card from your respective roles." The Lucifage continued as the opposing pawns followed their instructions, reaching the stand and taking a card; Ruruko from the shield deck and Issei from the sword. "Ruruko has pulled the '3 hit limit' card, meaning she is defeated after three hit. Issei has pulled the 'Promote: Rook' card, meaning he's promoted to Rook. Fighters, step into the magic circle." The did so as Issei shifted to Rook and waited to begin their fight.
"Oh, I just remembered!" Orihime gasped out. "Issei! If you use your Dress Break move, Ichigo said he will turn you into a eunuch!" She warned as the two were being teleported to the fight area, a small number of people gasping in shock while Grayfia looked at Issei with pity.
"Eh? What's a eunuch?" The clueless Red Dragon asked, getting slightly concerned with so many looking at him with pity and concern.
"It means he'll cut your balls off." The Spirit master answered, smiling while Issei went completely pale. "Kay bye!"
"WHOA HANG ON SENSEI!" He cried out as they were now moved to a vacant round white arena. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'D CUT MY BOYS OFF!? GUYS DON'T DO THAT TO EACH OTHER! THERE ARE RULES ABOUT THAT!" He kept yelling, unaware of Ruruko pulling out a palm length rod with a button on top that she clicked and tossed at him before covering her eyes and ears. "What the-" He started when he heard the clacking of what Ruruko threw, only for that to be drowned out as it exploded with a loud bang and flash of light. "GAH!" He shouted, blinded by the light with his ears ringing from the sound, completely unaware of Ruruko now charging at him with two knives in hand.
'No hesitation!' She told herself as she closed the distance quickly, picking out a target on Issei's body as he clutched at his ears to stop the ringing and blinking to try and clear his vision. Ruruko's first move was to jam one knife into Issei's right shoulder while the other slashed down his chest, neither of which got very deep due to his current defense as a Rook. Abandoning the idea of cutting up his chest, she instead tried again at stabbing into his shoulder in an effort to cripple his Boosted Gear arm. That left her open to a counterattack in the form of a wide swing, striking her in the ribs and sending her sprawling to the side. She immediately forced herself to her feet and jumped away, grunting in pain as she held her side and learned she had a few broken ribs.
"One hit." A voice called out, reminding the female pawn about her three hit limit.
'I'm not even sure I can take three.' She thought while she clutched at her side, Issei flailing about in an attempt to find his opponent.
(Leader Room)
"Dress Break?" Odin asked a Sitri maid served them, the battle already in full swing. Inside this room was himself and his attendant Rossweisse, Hestia and Artemis, Ichigo, Michael, Azazel, Serafall and Sirzechs. The rest of the Gotei members were spread throughout the arena, some in strategic positions in the event of an attack while others were just there to watch.
"A stupid move that pervert designed to strip girls of their clothes." Ichigo told him as he took his tea, the cup dimly flashing before he took a sip. "Most of his techniques and ability to power up is related to his obsession with tits. Last night, he achieved his Balance Breaker by poking Rias's nipples." The hybird rubbed his nose, making sure it healed properly after he broke it when Issei pleaded with Rias to poke her nipples.
"HA! Whatever works I guess!" Odin said with a laugh while other reactions were mixed. Artemis started reaching for her bow before Hestia gently touched her hand and shook her head. "Still, I'm expecting at least a decent performance. I want to see what this current generation of Devils can do. By the way Shogun Kurosaki, where did you learn Rune magic?" He asked, his own tea cup flashing before taking a sip as well. The mood of the room... did not change in the slightest.
"Scathach taught me." Ichigo answered, being fully aware that Odin of all people would recognize that type of magic. "She was an old friend of my mentor and agreed to take me under her wing for a while. It's been very useful." On the screen, Ruruko got in from behind Issei and hit him with a stun gun. "Does that upset you?" Issei summoned his gauntlet and overcame the electricity coursing through him.
"No, your learning of the outdated style does not upset me." The one eyed God said as he took another sip of tea. "If anything, it gives me an idea of what we can trade. Though I must ask why you used Algiz(ᛉ). I may be paranoid, but why do you doubt the Devils?"
"Long story short, I'm far from the favorite of most of the Devils." The hybrid supplied. "For years they've been trying to drug and poison me, so much so that using Algiz(ᛉ) has become habit whenever in the Devil's realm."
"And that extends to the family you're marrying into?"
"Especially them. Lord Sitri has been trying to dope me and Serafall full of aphrodisiacs at every possible chance." Issei got in his final punch on Ruruko, winning the match. "He REALLY wants grandchildren." Serafall nodded with a blush, agreeing with her fiance, while Odin laughed and Artemis sighed.
(Back at the Rating Game)
"Winner, Gremory Pawn, Issei Hyoudo." Grayfia announced as both Devils reappeared and Orihime enveloped them both in a healing shield, casually revealing her powers to the rest of the Devils. "Rias Gremory, remove the pawn you took and one additional pawn from Sona's side, then you may resume the clock." The maid instructed before turning to Orihime. "And anything else you forgot to mention?" She asked, knowing that what the Spirit User said wasn't a purposeful distraction and just a lapse in memory.
"Hmmm, nope!" She said as she retracted her Souten Kisshun, both Issei and Ruruko fully healed and returning to their respective sides. "Just that one warning that only applies to Issei." Said person felt a weight drop on his head at hearing that. Rias could only shake her head and took away the piece she captured and the pawn in front of Sona's king before hitting the timer and resuming the game. Sona's response was immediate as her king side bishop moved to Rias's queen side rook's pawn and immediately starting the next round.
"Sona, select your fighter." Grayfia said as the Sitri Devil pondered on her options.
"Momo Hanakai." Sona said, causing a girl with chest length wavy white hair and blue green eyes to stand up and walk towards the decks while Issei did the same. They drew their cards and presented them. Issei's having a broken magic seal and Momo's having a clock that read '1'.
"Issei Hyoudo has drawn the 'No Magic' card, meaning he will not be allowed to use magic and failure to comply is forfeiture of the match. Momo Hanakai has drawn the '1 minute' card, meaning that she has one minute to set up the battlefield to her liking." The Lucifage Devil explained. "Momo, step onto the magic circle. Issei, you will follow in one minute after her departure." The two nodded as Momo stepped onto the circle and teleported away.
(Stealth Force Update)
They flowed along their paths like water in a stream, weaving around any obstacles and leaving as little presence as a breeze. The dark clad members of the Onmitsukido easily slipping into the building of a major member of the Old Satan Faction, the guards only focusing on the members of the 'surprise inspection' as ordered by lord Falbium Asmodeus. Many guards felt something touching them, but only heard what seemed like the buzzing of insects before dismissing the matter. Some members found their way to the main point of air ventilation and into the plumbing systems, quickly infecting the water and leaving a specialized mold that carried the bacteria in its spores inside the air ducts. Finally there were the masters of the house, watching the game and oblivious to the person in the room with them.
"So what do you think?" One of the traitorous elders asked his companion. "A reincarnated Devil with nothing special to her versus the Red Dragon Emperor? What can she do in this one minute?"
"That girl Pawn was a stubborn one, but nothing particularly interesting." The other commented. "I'm hoping this one will give us something more on how to neutralize him, or at least provide a better performance."
"I'm hoping we get to see some of the Shinigami magic. The more data the better." Another said as the clock ran out and Issei teleported to the arena. None of the elders felt the fingers grazing the back of their necks.
(Arena)
The match was over the moment Issei entered the arena, the minute of preparation was enough to seal the Gremory Pawn's fate in that fight. The moment he appeared the trap was sprung, Momo had three shards of magic energy in the form of triangles that she immediately fired into his shoulders and waist. The force caused him to slam into the wall, where water from the air immediately focused on him to the point that he was covered in thin layer of condensation. The next part was two large throwing needles that dug their way into his chest, connected to her hand by a very thin chain as she glared at him and coated her hand in lightning and seemed to be whispering something.
"What are yoAAAHHHH!" He screamed as electricity shot down the chain and into his chest.
"No talking, not unless you forfeit." Momo said after the first bolt, immediately repeating the process when Issei showed a hint of struggling back. Slowly and steadily she was advancing toward him, repeating the process as she walked up to him. "Tell me you give up." She ordered as she walked up to him, pointing her spare hand at his right arm. Issei was covered in electrical burns at this point, some an angry red while others were black and peeling, and his breathing was becoming erratic.
"I..." He started, clenching his fist. "wo-" He never got to finish as they were teleported back out, Issei immediately falling in a heap as Orihime started the healing process.
"Victory by forfeiture on the part of Rias Gremory, Momo Hanakai of the Sitri Peerage." Grayfia announced while Rias was staring at Issei in worry. "Remember Rias, you and Sona are not to leave your spot under any circumstance." She gently but firmly reminded her sister-in-law, who could only pout and glare at Sona as she took her captured pawns and clicking the timer.
"That was rather vicious of your side Sona. Isn't this supposed to be a friendly match?" Rias demanded, rather upset with the callous torture Issei was put through.
"Don't be naïve Rias." Sona countered, a hint of venom in her voice. "The Satans want to keep us from the frontlines, but there's almost no chance that we won't be called in to participate in this war with the Khaos Brigade. Did you train to play a game or are you here to fight? Now move." The two started glaring at the other as tensions rose. Wordlessly, Rias moved her queen side rook into Sona's bishop. "Reya Kusaka." The Sitri heiress immediately said as her chosen Bishop rose. Reya had long brown hair that was tied in two short braids, brown eyes, and had a blue hairband. She and Koneko both made their way to the pedestals and took their respective cards.
(With the Leaders)
"What have you been doing with my dear little sister, darling?" Serafall asked with a sweet smile while leaking an angry dark aura as they continued to watch the game, Koneko immediately revealing her Youkai self and going on the very aggressive attack.
"You asked me to train her and we did." Ichigo calmly returned. "I had her and her peerage trained to be able to fight and survive against an enemy that will try to kill them, in an unforgiving war. Or are you going to sit there and tell me that you and the other Satans can, with absolute certainty, keep the young heirs and their peerages out of the fighting?" Serafall continued to pout, but didn't argue back. The Khaos Brigade were already making major plays and their numbers only grow. It really was just a matter of time before they have no choice but to send the teenagers out to the battlefield.
"You're starting to remind me of myself kid." Odin cackled, thinking back to older and bloodier times. "Is that why you said I break even between respect and apathy?"
"And I thought you agreed that sending children to war was wrong." Artemis added in, slightly miffed at what Ichigo was teaching the teens.
"I might hope for the best, but I prepare for the worst." Ichigo defended. "Worst case scenario is that they're completely on their own and I want them ready to handle that should it come to pass. The Sitri peerage has some of that hardened skin now and are displaying it rather nicely."
"I'm not sure if this bodes ill or well for the future Rating Games." Sirzechs said as Koneko punched at Reya, who tried blocking with her arms since her magic was spent. The Rook's power broke through the weak guard and slammed into Reya's chest, causing a loud crack as she fell to her hands and knees.
(Arena)
"Damage limit met." Grayfia announced as they teleported back for Orihime's healing, Reya coughing up blood from her punctured lungs before being engulfed in the Souten Kissun. "Winner, Koneko Toujou." Rias took the bishop piece without speaking, any sense of friendship or camaraderie simmered out in the heat of Sona's scathing retort to her about the fights. The Sitri took her remaining bishop and moved it across the board to take Rias's king side knight.
"Momo Hanakai." Sona said as her Bishop went to take her card while Kiba went to do the same. Kiba drew a card with a 1 and a sword while Momo drew one with an eye and a 1.
"Kiba Yuuto, you drew the 'weapon limit' card and are limited to only using one weapon in total." Grayfia announced while Orihime walked over to the white haired girl. "Momo Hanakai, you drew the 'foresight' card and will be able to see Kiba's actions one second before he does them." Orihime rose her finger and brought it to Momo's face.
"Close your eyes." She instructed, the young Devil obeying as Orihime traced a Perthro(ᛈ) rune over her eyes. "This will draw on your own power. I advise you be quick with this." The teacher warned as she went back to Grayfia's side.
"Proceed." The Lucifage ordered, causing the two to walk to the teleportation circles. Momo's hand went to her head as she tried to adjust to the slight disorientation of her new and temporary vision as they went to the fighting area. Kiba was glaring at her, remembering the punishment she put Issei through and how Rias had to forfeit that match because none of them could stand watching that happen to their dear friend. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that, despite his perversions and idiot moments, Issei became the heart of the Gremory Peerage. He promised he would make Momo pay for what she did to his friend, he just had to give her no breathing room to react. She could only see a single second into the future, how hard would that be to overcome? He would regret that thought almost immediately after they were given the go ahead to start the fight.
His first move was to cross the distance between them as fast as possible and strike her down with a rapier sword. If they wanted to treat these like life or death matches then he would respond in kind. both sides knew Orihime was able to revive the dead and Sona did have a point, though he didn't agree with her methods. He appeared in front of her, blade poised to thrust into her chest, that's when she flicked her wrist and he felt his ankle roll and pop. Momo swerved out of the way as Kiba fell to the ground, landing on his shoulder and cracking his head against the ground. The Gremory Knight looked down to his foot and saw a magic circle that quickly faded.
"I've seen faster Kiba." The Sitri Bishop said, gaining Kiba's focus before she snapped her fingers twice. "I've really improved my reflexes." The swordsman growled as he gripped his sword and tried to get up. Momo clapped her hands and Kiba slipped again, falling flat on his face.
"Gah!" He cried out in pain, trying to make sense of what happened as he tried to get back to his feet. He tried, but one side was failing to hit anything. Once his head stopped ringing, he looked down to see that his other foot was cut in half. "Even if I have to crawl, I won't-!" He tried declaring, only to find that the blade was missing from his sword.
"It's amazing what can be done with a single second." Momo panted out before snapping her fingers once more, making a blue transparent cube engulf his head. "Goodbye." She said before clapping her hands together again, making the cube turn red and slide away, severing Kiba's head and stunning so many people watching the games.
"Winner: Momo Hanakai." Orihime announced as everyone remained frozen by the death that just occurred. The two were teleported back to the Spirit Master as she immediately engulfed Kiba in her Souten Kissun, revealing the extent of her healing prowess as the Gremory Knight's head reattached to his body, gasping for breath as he signaled his revival. Orihime then took her hand and karate chopped Momo on the head, not too hard but enough to let her displeasure be known. "Bad Momo!" She scolded as Momo rubbed her head with teary eyes. "Just because I'm here to reverse it, doesn't mean you can just kill your friends! Even if you two are on opposite sides at the moment, it's no excuse to do so. It just makes things awkward when you return home. Now apologize to Kiba. And Kiba?" She asked, getting his attention as he stood back up. "Never again underestimate the value of a single second in a fight."
"Y-yes, Kurosaki Sensei." They managed to get out before facing each other.
"I'm sorry Kiba, I went too far." Momo said to the Knight.
"No, I was cocky. Better I learn this lesson now than later when it might be more permanent." Kiba returned, constantly rubbing his neck to make sure it was still attached.
"Good. Now back to your sides." Orihime ordered. "And if I have to revive one more person, then no one gets any cookies after the Rating Game is over." That threat made both peerages stiffen up.
"Understood ma'am!" They shouted in unison.
(Stealth Force Update)
The next match was Issei vs Reya, but no attention was given to them. All of Devil society was alight with shock, intrigue, desire, and burning greed after the resurrection display of Soul Society's healer. Many were questioning the mechanics of her power; was it entirely unique to her, was it a learned skill, was there a limit to her healing and if so then what? Some were planning out negotiations and offers for some of those secrets, if on the off chance that anyone could learn how to revive the newly dead. The far less generous and more daring were getting ready to risk anything to convert her into a Devil, whether or not she was willing to do so. But the one that had the attention of an Onmitsukido corps member was currently naked and roughly fucking a woman in a nun's abbot into his bed.
'Incredible.' Diodora thought, focusing on the screen rather than the Bishop of his peerage that was moaning in pleasure under him. 'Such healing puts the Twilight Healing Sacred Gear to shame. Maybe even the Phoenix Tears don't compare, they certainly seemed confident enough to have her replace them completely.' The next fight started, Koneko fighting the Sitri Pawn Rukuro. 'She might be experienced already, but I certainly can try breaking in another man's wife. I wonder what the screams of a married woman sound like compared to holy maidens?' He thought, pounding at his sex slave with renewed vigor and grinning with mad lust. 'That power... I will have it. First, take back Asia. Then I'll break her.' Then he felt something on the back of his neck, stopping to look around but finding just the empty room. "Probably nothing." He muttered before harshly smacking his slave's ass. "Tighten up this loose cunt. You're supposed to be getting ME off, not yourself." He ordered before continuing, a small cloud of dark energy wafting from the back of his neck.
(Arena)
"Winner, Koneko." Grayfia announced as the fight ended, Rukuro sporting a few growing welts and a broken arm while the Gremory Rook had a few small cuts and burns from the Pawn's various weapons. "Rias, take your pieces." The crimson haired Devil took the pawn that her rook piece replaced and reached for another that had one of her own pieces blocked, lest she put Issei into a disadvantageous fight, when Sona spoke up.
"Before you take that one Rias, Saji has a request." The Sitri heiress said, before using a magic portal to summon up a contract paper. "He requests a one on one fight with Issei. No Sacred Gears, no magic, and completely fair regardless of the 'advantage/disadvantage' system we have going on right now." She explained as Rias read the contract, swearing to fight on a completely level playing field so long as Issei does the same. "Can we do that miss moderator?" Sona asked Grayfia.
"Hold a moment while I ask the Satans." The Lucifer Queen said as she quickly teleported away. Two minutes later she returned, Issei and Saji now standing before their teleportation circles. "The Satans include this new rule. If the attacker side disregards the card system, they will instead get a boon prize to aid in a future fight for any member of the winner's peerage." The two pawns looked to each other and nodded, setting foot into the spells and vanishing to the battlefield arena.
"Thanks for agreeing to this Issei." Saji said, cracking his knuckles and stretching out his limbs while the Gremory pawn did the same. "There's something I need to settle between us, and this is the only real way to do it." Issei chuckled, ignorant of the focused look Saji was giving him as they finished and walked up to each other.
"No problem Saji. Seems like a good way to see how much I've improved from that hell old man Tannin put me through." The Red Dragon joked but it fell flat as the air seemed to grow cold, Saji now giving him an unnerving glare as he settled into a fighting stance. Feeling awkward, Issei did the same and got himself into the same mindset. The fight started off rather slow and uneventful, both sides closing in and just throwing relatively light punches and kicks to the other, mainly testing out the other's defense. But to those more familiar with the two could tell that Saji was only growing more and more mad as the fight went on, almost seeing an aura of Devil energy seeping from him as his attacks grew more and more aggressive.
"This? This is the result of your 'hellish training'?" The Sitri Pawn growled before delivering a hook that smashed through Issei's guard and slammed into his face. "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HELL!?" Saji roared as the Gremory Pawn was thrown off balance, his head spinning from the power Saji managed to supply. Before Issei could fix his footing, Saji caught his wrist and twisted the arm into a lock before kicking him in the back of the knee and forcing Issei down. "How bad was your mountain training!? Tell me!" He yelled, punching at Issei's elbow and causing him to shout in pain as it threatened to snap. "How much did you bleed?! How many times did your bones break!? HOW OFTEN DID YOU ALMOST DIE!?" He roared before punching so hard that Issei's arm snapped and bent backwards.
"GAAH!" The Boosted Gear user cried out before getting thrown aside. "W-wha-?" Issei struggled to ask, the sound of buttons snapping alerting him as he turned to see Saji and the myriad of scars all over his body. "Saji, what happened?" The Gremory Pawn asked, his eyes landing on a large and ugly one on Saji's gut. The most disturbing thing about was that it seems like the oldest and the freshest injury, like he was run through multiple times.
"I trained." The Sitri Pawn growled, quickly making his way to his downed foe. Issei recognized the danger he was currently in and tried to get to his feet, but Saji sent a harsh kick to the Red Dragon's face and knocked him back to the ground and helpless as the angry Devil mounted him. "I TRAINED! To FIGHT! YOU!" He shouted, throwing punch after punch at Issei's face. "Because I looked up to you! I respected you! I WANTED TO BE LIKE YOU!" Issei desperately tried to block, almost manifested his armored gauntlet, but each punch practically forced him to restart any thought process. "I wanted that once, but looking back on it... you're disappointing." The Gremory Pawn could only look at Saji through a hazy vision and swelling face while the Sitri Pawn rose a bloodied hand to his head.
"When the situation calls for it, you can act like a decent guy," Saji said while sounding annoyed and tired, "but the remaining ninety-five percent of the time? You're nothing but a tit obsessed dumb ass that just manages to get by on luck." Issei grimaced and was about to say something, but then Saji started to slam his foot into the downed Pawn's body. "Luck that you had the Boosted Gear! Luck that your master is a Gremory! Luck that it keeps saving your worthless ass just before you get yourself killed!" He roared as he started stomping on Issei's head. "You got a Dragon King to be your teacher, but this is how strong you are without relying on your Sacred Gear!? You created a technique to instantly destroy defenses, but you only use it to strip girls!? You keep talking about wanting a harem, but you already have so many beauties ready and willing, and I STRUGGLE JUST TO GET THE GIRL I LIKE TO NOTICE ME!?" He roared in frustration, slamming him foot down on Issei with a sickening crack as the floor cratered.
Saji panted from the effort, reaching down to pull his opponent on his back. Issei's face was bruised and swelling in places, indicating how much of his skull was fractured. His nose was flattened down and his was missing several teeth while his jaw hung loosely and misaligned. Saji had no pity, only anger to vent, as he stomped down on Issei's broken elbow. Issei didn't even have the strength left to cry out as he laid at Saji's mercy.
"I was hoping, sincerely, that you were going to take this seriously." The Sitri Pawn told him, sounding utterly disappointed. Not even Vali sounded like this when he told Issei just how far apart they were. "And, maybe you were. Maybe you thought you were training hard enough. But you weren't." Saji dropped down and grabbed Issei's neck in a strangle hold, glaring down at his opponent. "Tell me what you actually accomplished, so I know you weren't completely half-assing it."
"I..." Issei managed to force out, a part of him wanting to stay silent but his pride as a man demanded he pay Saji pay in some capacity. "I... created... a skill... that... would let... me hear... the boobs... of my... female opponents." Saji's grip stopped and he nearly dropped Issei. "But... you're... as much... of a... perv... as I am." Issei accused. "Don't... tell me... the idea... of Sona's... tits... talking to you... doesn't sound... appealing." Saji just stopped and let go, letting Issei fall to the floor.
"You're an idiot, but not wrong." The Sitri Pawn admitted. "There was a time I'd jump at that chance, but that's the ultimate difference between us now Issei. I'm changing and you're still the same titty maniac that it's honestly baffling that any of your good points show through." Saji raised his foot again. "I'll be going on ahead. This time, try and catch up to me." He said before kicking Issei's head one last time, finally knocking the Red Dragon out.
"Winner: Saji Genjishirou. The boon will be a stamina restorative supplied by the Soul Society." Grayfia announced as they were teleported back for Orihime's healing. Saji finished quickly and started heading back to the Sitri side while the two Kings watched, Rias in blatant concern over her dear Issei while Sona's expression didn't seem to change.
"Saji, come here." The Sitri heiress beckoned as her Pawn moved to obey, her mind flashing back to their training days.
(Flashback: Underground Training Hall Hotsprings)
Sona hissed as she lowered herself into the warm water as the spring's healing properties went to work to undo the damage he wrought, her body covered in various cuts, scrapes, bruises, and burns from her weekly session with Ichigo. Her peerage was warned that Soul Society had some rough taskmasters and rare was the day they weren't physically or mentally exhausted. Sona doubted any of them would be able to move if it wasn't for the healing springs she was now soaking in. Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden swish of the air before the spring water crashed over her from something being thrown in.
"Patch him up." The Sitri heiress heard Esdeath order while she tried to clear her vision. "I want him back in the field in thirty minutes." The swish of Shunpo followed soon after that and Sona finally cleared the water from her vision, only to find the horrifying state of her Pawn.
"Saji!" She cried out in shock seeing him covered in cuts, his legs and left arm bent in an unnatural angle, and a spear of ice in his gut. Sona jumped out of the spring and ran to the first aid box, finding vials of a glowing blue liquid and rolls of gauze and medical tape. She grabbed the vial and went back to the spring, Saji's cuts were closing but the ice was melting far too slowly. She fed him the medicine and used her magic to extract the ice in his gut, breathing a sigh of relief as his own breath became steady and his wounds started healing faster. Sona would spend the next twelve minutes washing his body in the healing waters until he began to stir awake.
"Prez?" Saji asked, his voice sounding rough and worn as he returned to consciousness, his naked body cradled against Sona's own as she tended to him. "How much time do I have?" Sona contemplated lying, if only to give him more time to recover, but knew that Esdeath would be thrice as punishing if she were made to wait.
"Eighteen more minutes." She answered honestly as he pulled away and began stretching, his body cracking and popping loudly as he did. "Saji, are you doing okay?" The Sitri heiress asked, concerned from how much abuse her Pawn was going through and how used to it he seemed to be.
"I'm fine Prez." He claimed as he cracked his neck once more. "Besides, this is the third time I've been impaled." Sona's look of worry didn't leave despite his casual dismissal of the severity of his training injuries. "If this is what I'm doing, than I can only imagine the hell Issei must be putting himself through." He got out of the spring and began looking behind the boulders for one of the clothing stashes he had ready after the second time this had happened. "Gotta keep pushing myself if I want to keep up." He said, finding his prize and immediately getting dressed as fast as he could. "Good luck with your training Prez." He finished up and unfurled his black Devil wings, ready to rush to Esdeath's training field, but then hesitated before turning back to his master. "Sona Sitri?"
"Y-yes Saji?" She asked, surprised he used her name.
"If I can beat Issei, will you go on a date with me?"
(Flashback End)
"Yes Prez?" The Pawn asked as he approached the table where the two Kings were playing. Sona reached a hand up to Saji's cheek and gently pulled him down to her level.
"I'm looking forward to our date." She whispered before planting a soft kiss on his cheek. As she pulled away, Saji's Sacred Gear manifested and started to change. The black chameleon wrist mounted gun form shifted to a more angular serpentine one that wrapped around his arm with a triangular head with three rose pink eye gemstones.
(With the Leaders)
"Well, not as interesting as poking nipples to activate it." Azazel said, appreciating the chance to gather more data on Sacred Gears and Balance Breaker catalysts while the other leaders watched on in interest. "But still, good on him for being able to gain his Balance Breaker."
"I can imagine that's not the only hard snake he's got on him." Odin said with a smirk, laughing to himself before Rossweisse smacked him with a large Harisen, or slapping fan, letting out a few loud smacks as she disciplined her boss for his crass joke.
"Please conduct yourself better lord Odin~!" She whined, embarrassed by the elder god. As that was going on, tensions were rising between the Satans and the Captain Commander.
"Darling, we're going to talk about what you've been putting my dear sister's Peerage through." Serafall said, no mirth or childish innocence in her tone. She wasn't happy after seeing the scars on Saji's body and wondered just what hell the rest of Sona's group must have went through. Ichigo's expression didn't change as he continued to drink his tea, watching as Saji dressed himself and the next moves were made.
"Yeah, I probably should've kept a closer eye on Esdeath." The hybrid admitted while setting his cup down. "I forgot how much of a sadist she can be once given free reign. Still, I'm happy with the results."
"This is too far Ichigo." Sirzechs stated, looking just as angry as Serafall. "There's no need to push them to near death."
"For a simple Rating Game, you're right." The Captain Commander admitted. "But I was more concerned with preparing them for the Khaos Brigade. Training like that is to be expected in the harsher Gotei training programs and we're at war. Or, again, am I the only one taking this matter seriously?" Kurosaki accused, making the other bristle in anger.
"Ichigo! Not everyone has a person that can reverse dying!" Serafall shouted, Ichigo still calmly regarding the group.
"Orihime is unique in that regard but she's far from our only way of healing, or have you forgotten your bride price my dear?" He countered, making Serafall flinch. "Soul Society has and continues to experiment with different healing methods, but the Devils have been content with just the Phoenix Tears." Now it was Sirzechs and Ajuka who paused. "Complacency almost destroyed the Gotei once. Do not lecture me on my methods when you've been lax in your own." The Devils could only stew as the Rooks, Koneko and Tsubasa went into the arena.
(Arena)
The Yokai turned Devil was feeling confident, determined, and angry as she stared down her opponent, Tsubasa Yura. The Sitri Rook was a tall tomboy with shoulder length blue hair and eyes with the sleeves of her school uniform rolled up past her elbows. Koneko was the attacker and had a strength spell to enhance her strength while Tsubasa had a hit limit of four before losing, the odds were in her favor and she was interested in getting payback for Issei. The look of serene confidence on her opponent's face was only fueling her frustration toward the Sitri Peerage member as they took their combat stances. Koneko charged herself with her Senjutsu abilities as best she could and concentrated that energy to her fists and shot forward at great speed. Once the two were in arm's reach of the other, they threw a punch at each other with Tsubasa flashing.
"Reversal!" The Sitri Rook called out as the two connected, with Koneko flying back.
"AHHHH!" She cried out while grasping at her arm in pain, bones sticking out from the entire limb.
(With the Leaders)
"PFFT! WHAT THE HELL!?" Azazel yelled out in shock while spitting out his tea, his expression a mixed of confusion and horror. "That's one of our experimental techniques, how the hell did that get out!?"
"Yeah, a traitor to the Grigori met up with me and Sona outside of the training hall I had constructed and offered it to us." Ichigo calmly explained while Tsubasa proceeded to assault Koneko without mercy as she remained paralyzed by the pain.
"That technique is still in its experimental phase Ichigo! It was meant solely for use by the Fallen Angels alone! It's not safe for any other race!"
"It was not safe." Ichigo corrected. "But the brilliant minds of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute rectified that and improved it. Now instead of just reversing the characteristics of attacks it can reflect attacks as well. Of both the physical and spiritual variety." Tsubasa got a hold of Koneko's arm, urging the poor Yokai to forfeit the round as she twisted and applied pressure on the shattered limb. "I had a chat with Shemhazai and we determined that this move was a ploy for a later assassination attempt, provided we were stupid enough to blindly accept it." Ichigo felt his phone vibrate and checked it, smiling at the news it delivered. "And Ikkaku just informed me they found the traitor."
(With Ikkaku)
He didn't really care about the questions being asked, that wasn't why he accepted the mission Ichigo had given him. He was the lieutenant of the 11th division of the Gotei, the combat focused group and if it didn't involve fighting then he didn't care. He agreed to his Commander's order over sending Hachi because he was hoping that a new opponent might be interesting to play with. He wanted to personally fight, not watch a bunch of kids beat the crap out of each other. So instead, he, the second in command of the Grigori, and one of the head researchers of 'Anti-Magic' in the Grigori worked together to track down and capture the traitor... and it was all too fast for him. Ichigo laced the guy with surveillance bacteria and had them spend the next week and a half keeping an eye on him, they got the okay to capture him, and now a shirtless Fallen Angel with spikey red hair was pinned to a tree being questioned about their 'assassination plot' and Ikkaku was just bored. So he decided to do some carving.
"Almost done." He said as he took out some sand paper. It became a hobby of his after starting up his kendo dojo in Soul Society, carving up wooden swords for himself and his students to use. As such, it was just the thing to occupy his time and hands as he waited for Shemhazai and Amaros to finish. He was sitting there, sanding down the blade part, wearing the Shinigami Shihakusho and Hakama but with his sleeves rolled up. On his right arm was a gold colored shoulder guard with the kanji for 'dragon' while his left had the kanji for three and five tattooed into his skin. He felt over the pale brown wood and nodded in satisfaction as the two walked over. "Any luck?" He asked as he rose to his feet. Shemhazi was dressed similarly to his appearance at the Kuoh Summit while Amaros had wild black hair and violet eyes, wearing a suit of armor with a cape, and an eyepatch.
"He confirmed our suspicions that it was an assassination ploy," Shemhazi said while they faced their prisoner, "hoped to gather data and use it to reverse healing abilities at the best moments to ensure that the patient dies. He actually thought that your people and the Sitri Peerage would just accept that at face value."
"What a dumbass." The bald lieutenant said before stretching his arms and shoulders. "Okay, I'll take care of the rest." Shemhazai and Amaros looked over to traitorous member of the Grigori and felt a minor pang of regret, but treason can't be tolerated. Ikkaku made his way over with just the wooden sword in hand, not the Zanpakuto at his hip.
"Are you sure? Don't you think you might be underestimating him?" Asked Amaros, a mix of concerned and insulted for the Soul Reaper that was treating this like a non-threat. "Follow up, can I get a copy of the combat and research data from Soul Society?"
"Naw. I'm good." The lieutenant said as he reached the restrained Fallen. "You should be grateful that I'm your executioner." He called out, making the Angel glare at Ikkaku for the disrespect. "I'm at least giving you the chance to fight for your life. Any other squad and you'd die on that rock... actually Squad 12 would take you back to Soul Society and you'd end up wishing you died on that rock." The traitor spat at Ikkaku's face, the bald lieutenant calmly wiping his face clean before knocking the restraints on his arm loose. "Free yourself, then we fight." He said, keeping an eye on the Angel before letting his mind wander.
He remembered the betrayal of Sosuke Aizen, thinking back on his actions and how they affected the Soul Society. He made himself out to be the ideal Shinigami, a kind and compassionate man that everyone trusted, so his treason was especially jarring to those that believed in him; his so called friends among the captains and especially his lieutenant that practically worshiped him. But his betrayal also revealed just how flawed and corrupt the Soul Society actually was. How easy it was for him to take over by occupying just one room and no one bothering to question it. As horrible as it was, some choose to see it as a blessing in disguise since it led to so many reforms to ensure that it never happened again. Shortly after Ichigo became captain of Squad 8, he also revealed one of the bigger motivators of Aizen to the captains and lieutenants: the Original Sin of Soul Society. After that, many even understood a part of Aizen's goals. He was an utter monster, but not one without reason, a necessary evil to push Soul Society toward a new age.
Ikkaku was brought out of his musings as the Fallen freed himself and unfurled his six black wings. The lieutenant readied himself with his wooden sword in hand and the Fallen took to the air... and kept flying in an effort to flee. Ikkaku hissed in disappointment as he disappeared with Shunpo, appearing directly in front of the Angel before cracking him in the head with a swing that connected next to the Angel's right eye. There was two resounding cracks, the skull of the Fallen fracturing with his eye being crushed and his wooden sword breaking in two. The Angel fell to the ground with Ikkaku stomping on his neck, causing the Fallen to desperately gasp for breath as his eye socket began gushing blood from the damage the lieutenant inflicted.
"I was trying to give you a chance to die with dignity." Ikkaku scolded before raising the broken practice blade and stabbing it into the Fallen's body, the Angel unable to scream with the lieutenant's foot crushing his throat. "But if you want to die a coward's death, then so be it." He held a finger out to the traitor's head, bracing his arm with the other hand. "Hado # 4, Byakurai." Ikkaku calmly said, his fingers sparking with blue energy before blasting the top half of the Angel's head blasting it with lightning, destroying it in an instant. With his enemy dead, Ikkaku grabbed a leg and started dragging it over to where the two Angels were watching in surprise. "I'm gonna go back to Soul Society, see if Squad 12 is willing to share their 'Reverse' data. Can I trust you guys to handle the rest?" He asked, unsheathing his Zanpakuto while the Fallen Angels nodded. "Cool. This guy's mine now by the way." Ikkaku said as he thrust his sword into the air and turned it, creating two pairs of sliding doors that were the Senkaimon gates. Once they opened, Ikkaku made his way through with his prize: an Angel's corpse for Squad 12.
(Back with the Rating Game)
"Winner: Tsubasa Yura. Her rook piece stays." Grayfia announced as Rias moved her rook piece, the first time an attacking piece lost. Koneko was pouting, angry at herself for losing despite her training and breaking her own flawless win streak in the Rating Game. The viewers waited for the next move they expected, some counterattack on Koneko since she's the current most vulnerable piece many of them saw. What they didn't expect was that Sona would take her queen and jumped across the entire board to attack Rias's queen. Tsubaki and Akeno stood up and made their way to the pedestals before drawing their respective cards, Tsubaki with the one second foresight card and Akeno with a card that read 'Attack-5'. "Akeno, your card means that you can only perform five attacks." Grayfia explained once she saw the card.
"That's more than I need." The half Angel/Devil said with confidence as they walked to the teleportation circle, her opponent brandishing a simple naginata in her hands
"Akeno!" Rias called out, making her best friend pause and look at her King. "Don't underestimate our opponents. That has only been working against us." She advised, making Akeno nod as she continued to the circle, quickly transforming into her shrine maiden outfit and sparking with electrical power as she charged her magic. They appeared in the arena and Akeno immediately launched a bolt of lightning at her opponent, seeking to put a swift end to the fight. She expected Tsubaki to dodge and she suspected the possibility of the other Queen having a similar technique to what Tsurara used on Koneko. Either way, she believed herself prepared for whatever her opponent would do.
"Mirror Alice!" Tsubaki calmly called out, summoning a full body length mirror in front of her that took the hit of the lightning. Soon the magical glass began to crack while the Sitri Queen traced her hand along the blade of her naginata. "Hado #11, Tsuzuri Raiden." She chanted as the blade now sparked with electricity itself and the mirror shattered, reflecting Akeno's lightning back at her with twice the speed and power. The Gremory Queen was already flying up into the air, dodging her reflected attack, with another bolt of lightning charged up and ready to fire. She had no intention of doubting the advantage a single second offered, but she did underestimate the capabilities of her opponent. Before she could blast Tsubaki with another bolt of lightning, she felt something stab into her gut and made her double over from the force. Akeno didn't even have the time to look down before she felt her own element betray her as electricity surged throughout her body, causing her to body to seize up and burn as she screamed in agony through clenched teeth.
Many would question how the Sitri Queen managed to throw it so strong and fast, but those that paid attention would see her employ a magic circle that she threw her polearm through. During their training, Ichigo would demonstrate the various high speed movement techniques of the Gotei for them to get used to faster opponents. Tsubaki and Sona would spend some time experimenting with magic in order to develop a version for Devil use, the result being to manifest spell circles and bounce off them or accelerate their movements. Tsubaki furthered her assault by sprouting her own wings and manifesting two spell circles under her feet before jumping off of them, immediately appearing in front of Akeno and grabbing her Naginata as the electrical energy dispersed.
"You still seem to be lacking." Tsubaki growled before ripping her polearm out of Akeno, tearing open her side, before swiftly swinging her weapon around and cutting off the Gremory Queen's right arm before stabbing through her left shoulder. Tsubaki then forced the pair of them down before planting her foot on Akeno's throat. "Too bad."
"Winner: Tsubaki Shinra." Grayfia announced as they appeared before a pouting Orihime for healing. The Spirit user set about healing Akeno and was ready to scold Tsubaki for cutting it close with the Gremory Queen's life, when some clacking and the deafening silence that followed drew her attention.
"I'm tired of you and your Peerage mocking my dear friends and servants." Rias said, bearing an angry scowl as she rose from her seat. "I'm not going to sit by any longer when I can fight with them." She declared as she walked over to the deck pedestal and drew her card, a clock with a '2' on it. "It's my turn to make you regret taking the fun out of this match."
"You mean a fight without any threat to you?" Sona countered, making Rias's scowl deepen. "Where you are safe and your team are guaranteed their win?" Tsubaki went over to the Sitri pedestal and took her disadvantage, drawing a '3 hit limit' card. "Rias, I'm not taking away the 'fun' you think this should have. I'm giving you the wake up call you need." The crimson haired Devil glared daggers at her friend, a title she's beginning to reconsider, as she made her way to the teleportation circle to begin her preparations.
"Rias has the 'two minute preparation' card and Tsubaki has a limit of taking three hits." Grayfia announced for the viewers while Orihime continued her healing of Akeno and Tsubaki went over to her team, having not taken any damage from her previous match. She asked Rukuro something and the Sitri Pawn began searching her person. The wait left an air of tension in the arena with both sides keeping to themselves while the Gremory group were glaring at the Sitri Peerage, silently cursing them for their brutality in the match and the vitriol they've been displaying with every win. "Time's up. Tsubaki, enter the arena." Grayfia instructed, prompting Tsubaki to head for the teleportation circle.
"Senpai, I found it!" Rukuro called out before throwing a grenade at Tsubaki, who easily caught it. "Now go kick ass." The Sitri Queen nodded in appreciation as she entered the circle, pulling the pin and starting the countdown in the last few seconds.
"Wait! What the hell!?" Issei cried out as the others of the Gremory group stood up and protested. "That's against the rules! No outside help right!? These are one on one matches!" Those protests fell on deaf ears as the arena flashed with a blinding light, followed by Rias's scream. To the ones that kept their eyes on the fight, they would see Rias's many spells fly toward her opponent and Tsubaki tossing up her grenade. As the light faded it revealed that all of Rias's magic was dispelled and the Gremory was clutching her head in agony. Tsubaki was likewise dazed but recovered very quickly, drawing her naginata and rushing her opponent before bashing Rias in the side of her head and knocking her to the ground with the butt of her polearm. The Sitri Queen groaned in pain, the effects of the flash bomb still lingering, before spinning her naginata around and stabbing into Rias's back. The Gremory heiress cried out in pain as the steel dug into her flesh, stopping just shy of severing her spine.
"Winner: Tsubaki Shinra." Grayfia announced, not wanting anymore harm to come to her little sister than necessary as they teleported back to get healed. "And Gremory group?" She called out as they rushed to Rias's side, concerned about their master despite knowing Orihime's power. "Sharing resources and assets before any match is permissible as a display of tactical planning. The fact that you didn't think of this yourselves show how much you're still lacking." All of them flinched at the indifference Grayfia showed, at testament to her control as the combat moderator when really she was just as troubled by the way the game was turning out. She knows the main plan, but seeing the viciousness on display only reminded her of the wars she and her husband fought to stop. Bad memories she'd rather not revisit.
"May I take my turn?" Sona asked, getting a glare from the Gremory peerage but a nod from Grayfia. They expected her to capitalize on Rias's defeat by giving her no breathing room and kick her while she's down. However, Sona would surprise and horrify them by moving her queen piece to one of Rias's bishops. "Well? Pick your fighter." Sona calmly told her opponent as Rias stomped over to the table and slammed her hands down.
"What are you playing at Sona!?" She demanded, now furious at her rival for forcing her to send out one of her two most vulnerable pieces. Asia had no combat ability to speak of, coupled with her pacifist nature meant any fight she's in might as well be forfeit. Gasper would actually have a chance but with the card system and the brutality of the Sitri peerage she couldn't send him out to actually fight, he's likely to relapse if she did send him out. This fight was a loss no matter who she sent, but the real issue was how she seemed to deliberately prolong the game.
"Putting your peerage to the test." Sona coldly responded, further infuriating Rias. "That's the whole point of these Rating Games, isn't it Rias? To show the capabilities of the Devils? Or... could it be that you don't have faith in your own Bishops?" Rias started to glow with her magic power rising, ready to blast Sona to nothingness and damn the consequences for what it'd mean. Then she felt something tap against her neck and soft humming filled her mind.
"Rias. Calm yourself and make your decision." Orihime instructed, still in her place by Grayfia's side. The Gremory heiress felt her fury subside almost immediately from the surprise and soothing song, taking a breath before sitting back down.
"I forfeit this round." She finally said. "Neither of my Bishops are fit for actual one on one combat." Sona stared at Rias for a bit before wordlessly claiming the her bishop piece and ended her turn.
"I shall go to the Satans and ask for their judgment on this. Meanwhile, proceed with the game while Orihime takes over for me." Grayfia informed them before teleporting away. The game resumed with the next round being a match between knights.
(With the leaders)
"That was close." Sirzechs said, breathing a sigh of relief as Rias was calmed by Masamune's song. "This is going way too far Ichigo and we WILL have words about it." Glares returned to the Soul Reaper.
"Complain to me AFTER the Old Satan and Great King factions are no longer a concern." The Commander countered. "We assigned Sona the task of getting their attention and serving as the distraction, the training was to ensure these fights would be interesting enough to want to watch and the drama she's creating makes for great TV. I'd say she's doing an excellent job."
"Indeed." Artemis said, nodding along with the Shinigami's decision. "The fault is more on the Gremory girl, she's far too easy to rile and manipulate. If anything, she needs to use this as a learning experience, to understand the importance of discipline and focus." Rias then admitted to her Bishops' inability to fight.
"A shame." Hestia with a slight frown. "I really empathize with Rias, seeing her precious friends as her family. Maybe I should have a talk with her." She suggested as Grayfia appeared in the room.
"My lords," the Lucifage said with a bow, "what was the idea concerning the possibility of a forfeit without combat? I don't believe we covered that." The Satans looked to each other and began a quiet discussion between them while Ichigo looked to his phone and smirked.
"Grayfia, inform them that nothing changes." Serafall declared as the game played. "Being able to tell when you're facing a losing fight and being able to turn away shows wisdom as leader. Besides, losing a piece is punishment enough." Rias's knight moved to take Sona's as Kiba and Tomoe Meguri, a girl with shoulder length russet hair tied in twin tails and brown eyes with a katana at her side, stood up. Kiba was about to say something, but Rias ordered him to take the card, prompting them to head to their decks and take their cards. Kiba drew the 'one second precognition' card while Tomoe's made her sword heavier. Grayfia bowed to the leaders before proceeding to teleport away before Ichigo spoke up.
"Hey Grayfia. Ask Orihime what cake she plans on making for later. That's the password for Sona to know that she can end this game." The Satans and Angels looked to the Shogun, who kept smirking. "Mission complete." He said with a smile before closing his phone and the report he received.

Kiba was honestly torn, a part wanting to avenge his dear friends and the insults aimed at them while another part wanted an equal and honorable sword duel, but Rias would not allow it. Sona seemed intent on destroying any sense of friendship and camaraderie that the two groups once had, but the question was why, to what end? His focus returned to the fight as he saw an overhead katana swing come at him before Tomoe even set up the attack. He blocked it with his own longsword and winced slightly at the weight of the attack, the Sitri Knight improvising on how to capitalize on the increased weight of her sword by making heavier attacks. However, it couldn't overcome the power of his precognition and he gained a new appreciation for the value of the smallest amount of time. His fight ended as he made her blade slide away before slashing through the side of her neck, cutting a vital blood vessel and making Orihime call the match before Tomoe actually died. After she announced Kiba as the winner and started healing the Sitri Knight, Grayfia appeared to make her announcement.
"The Satans decreed that nothing changes in the result of forfeiture without combat. Being able to recognize a losing battle and avoiding it is considered a sign of growth as a leader." She said, repeating what the top Devils decided before turning to her human companion. "By the way Mrs. Kurosaki, what cake do you plan on making for the victory party? Do you need any help?" Most everyone's eyes lit up at the mention of Orihime's cake, except for Sona who only shifted her eyes to the two adults as the started discussing different cakes. She returned her gaze to Rias, who kept her focus on Sona, still glaring at her. If she noticed anything, she gave no indication of it.
"Rias, this game has mostly served its purpose." The Sitri vaguely claimed. "With the exception of myself, every combat capable member of our respective peerages has had their chance to showcase their skills and abilities. As I said, I wanted to put your peerage to the test and I have. But I feel this game has gone on for long enough and I think you've fully recovered for one last fight." Sona summoned up another parchment with glowing script appearing. "A straight one on one match between you and me, no cards, nothing from my peerage before the match, winner takes all." Rias watched as the script appeared on the parchment and weighed her options, still glaring as Sona adjusted her glasses with a single finger, somehow getting that glare that hides away the eyes. "Or are you saying that a brutish powerhouse has lost her confidence?" Rias bristled at that taunt.
"Even now you insult me?" She growled, glaring at her opponent. "Just how far do you intend to go before you're satisfied? You've tormented my precious servants, Saji brutalized my dear Issei, and now you're saying I'm such an unworthy challenge in this game that you'd rather fight me one on one? Despite knowing I'm the stronger fighter? Even after I win, I'll still lose in every other way!"
"IF you win." Sona corrected. "Now, do you agree or not?" She asked, holding out the contract as Rias continued to glare.
