Chapter 71 - Into the Wastelands

Xiao Dai was freaking out. It was quite an unusual sight for anyone who knew her since she was relatively composed at all times, even when she wasn't actively trying to hide her real mannerisms. This was because just a week before they set to leave for the commission, Won Feng had found out about which one Julong had chosen and forced her to accompany the two Cangxuan Disciples.

Why is this happening?! Why am I here?!

The most outrageous part of it all was that Won Feng had openly told them that Xiao Dai would not be taking any part of the reward! Surely he had to be kidding!

Xiao Dai, on top of hoping to not die while out doing the commissions, was also hoping that her Master was just kidding when they spoke before. She was very much anticipating her Master to reward her with at least a small Genesis Treasure to refine when she got back! She would have to put in an incredible amount of effort here, how could she do it for free!?

Julong watched the twitching girl with an amused expression plastered on his face. He was surprisingly enough the calmest there, not only in terms of nervousness but also in regards to irritation. Qingchan had found her terror a little funny at first, not in a mocking way but in a friendly way. This quickly changed after 10 minutes. She was also now just sitting there becoming increasingly irritated at Xiao Dai's over the top nerves.

While she seemed serious and non-caring in any way of Xiao Dai's suffering, the cracks in her usual facade were beginning to show. The side of her that only Julong and Yao Yao had seen would probably come out soon. Who knew that it would be thanks to Xiao Dai's increasingly annoying nerves.

For the most part, silence took over the airship provided by the Sect. It remained that way with a few noises from Xiao Dai until they had arrived at their destination, in which she squeaked.

At this point Qingchan had, had enough and walked over to her. Grabbing her by the collar, Xiao Dai flinched as she look up at the Chosen. A grin filled with evil intention graced Qingchans red lips.

"Since you couldn't be quiet on our trip, you can have the pleasure of disembarking first!"

...

She proceeded to throw Xiao Dai out of the ship.

...

Xiao Dai let out all the terror she had been holding in, screaming as she fell from the airship toward the ground. All the while Qingchan smiled at her falling form. She quickly looked back at him with a gentler look before jumping down herself.

Julong couldn't help but snicker at their actions but quickly moved on, standing up himself and following the two girls out.

Just like the Cangxuan airship, the airship they had been provided with ran on Genesis Qi and a directional rune. The only real difference was that it was much smaller in comparison and they didn't have to medal with the rune since it would be a short trip. It would drop them off before turning around and leaving. After three days it would come back. Unfortunately, this was because it was uncertain whether leaving it out in the wastelands would cause it damage. Thankfully, the airship was indeed a good size for just the three of them, and it sort of made Julong question why the Cangxuan Sect had given Qingchan and himself such a large airship to fly them out in the first place.

The commission they were currently on was the 2.5 star commission issued by the Sect itself. It was simple enough - clearing away Genesis Beasts. The interesting thing about the commission was that the Genesis Beasts were Low Grade-5 and High Grade-4 Genesis Beasts, which was equivalent to the Initial Divine Dwelling Realm and Peak Ninth-Layer of the Alpha Origin Realm. This would typically be an issue if they were human practitioners of Genesis Beasts from the Wanshou Heaven, but these Genesis Beasts were apparently mindless and only knew how to use physical strength, meaning the 3 Alpha-Origin Experts were at an advantage. Though Julong had to admit, considering these were supposed to be the Genesis Beasts they had seen on their way into town, it would be quite a disaster if any of them ended up being hit by any of their savage attacks.

The area they had appeared in was not too far away from the town, but it was a site of increasing alarm. The Genesis Beast activity which had been rather low for a few months had picked up at an alarming rate and were quickly approaching the wall that encompassed the town. The weirdest part was that whoever had observed them also said that they weren't fighting with each other and were working as a group. For this particular species of Genesis Beast, that was incredibly rare and made Julong shiver slightly when he read the information.

That was the reason the danger rating was so high. After all even Julong would be able to dispose of the Grade-4 Genesis Beasts in the area despite his Second-Layer Alpha-Origin strength - they were in fact that weak thanks to the lack of consciousness and Genesis Techniques. The issue was that the working together represented that either a leader had shown up, which had managed to suppress the entire pack, or they had gained intelligence and were becoming conscious. Neither of these were good things. If a leader had shown up, it could possibly be Grade-6, which even Qingchan would not be able to handle, meaning failure awaited them. If the awakening of intelligence in the pack themselves was to blame, it was possible the Genesis Beast might have learned to use Genesis Qi and in turn, could make everything that much harder.

This seriously made Julong wonder what a 3 star commission would be like if this one was already so risky. He hadn't read into it too far, but he was aware that the 3 star he had picked had something to do with the cultists.

Finally jumping down himself, he landed next to Qingchan and Xiao Dai. The latter was patting herself down, trying to remove the dirt that had gotten onto her robes. She was giving Qingchan - who was just standing beside her innocently, pretending nothing happened, the filthiest look Julong had ever seen.

A smirk graced his lips.

Classic.
