It had been a few days since Qingchan had told Julong about her past. He, from those days on felt sorrowful for her past, but did what he believed she wanted, which was to treat her the same he had been in the time they had known each other prior. He didn't want her to feel like it made up her whole identity. That would be too cruel and disrespecting of how far she had come thus far.
They were currently on the outlook of the ship looking over the wastelands as they approached the township in the centre of the expansive Territory. It was quite unbelievable just how large the Skeleton of the beast that had died there really was. It snaked across the whole Territory and ran off into the distance, further than either of them could make out. It didn't really help either that the sky was permanantly filled with dense fog that blocked out most of the light. The same fog they would soon need to ascend into to avoid detection.
The most astonishing part still, was the fact that most of the skeleton was actually under the ground. Julong quite literally could not believe his own eyes as he gazed upon the sheer mass of the beast that had died there and how only the very top of the spine and what people assumed was the rib cage, could be seen.
The profoundness of the Genesis Qi that was radiating from the skeleton and earth was also another breathtaking device in the territory. It was strong and berserk and was likely the reason why wastelands were so baron and desolate of life. It quite simply killed just about every non-sentient being out there. There was not even a single strand of grass.
Thanks to this, in turn, all sentient beings left since there was nothing for them out there, producing the empty world they could see which expanded into the ongoing horizon. Only Genesis Beasts which feasted on the berserk clashing of Genesis Qi or the death that it brought could survive out in the wastelands, and such Genesis Beasts were also known as the most feral and aggressive.
Even from high up in the sky, he could see their little figures, reminiscent of specks due to their height - savagely ripping each other to pieces.
"It's hard to believe such a profound treasure exists in such a place."
Julong couldn't wrap his head around it. Something with such pure Genesis Qi would generally incite life. Perhaps that's how the Ancient Serpent Scales had stayed hidden for so long? It was a known fact that the skeleton no longer had any resources attached to it, it had been like that since it was originally found, having been buried there for thousands of years.
Of course, smaller treasures were found every once in a while, which was why there was a township at all, but all the superpowers of the Cangxuan Heaven had long been convinced that all the major resources had already been acquired or lost to time.
That was why, even though it was a little surprising that the Ancient Serpent Scales were there, it wasn't an all-out shock. It was more just a surprise about the Scales not having been harvested yet.
"I agree. But it makes sense why this area is the way it is, despite such a treasure exuding such pure Genesis Qi."
Julong nodded in agreement as began to speak, "Mmm, the clashing of the Genesis Qi from the earth, which seems to resent the existence of the skeleton, seems to be much more destructive than the life that even the bones of such a sacred creature could create."
"If even Law Domain Experts couldn't refine the bones here because of their sheer amount of power, how could the Ancient Serpent Scales that even we can refine, be able to match up? It's simply impossible, no?"
Qingchan looked at him with a grin.
"Is that enough to quell your own disbelief."
Julong nodded his head.
"Yes, though I wouldn't so much call it disbelief over just pure fascination over this Territory. As exciting the venture sounds, it also now seems like it will be a long and difficult one, not even including our affairs with the cultists nor Sacred Palace."
"As much as we'd like to ignore such pressing concerns, those are the original reasons were sent here."
A few seconds after Qingchan spoke, something seemed to catch her eye, shown by her gaze locking onto something for a strenuous amount of time.
"Julong, quickly, look down there. We're about to see why this place is named the Fortressing Territory."
Listening to Qingchans' request, Julong followed her line of sight.
Out of the desolate ground, a wall was beginning to form randomly. It looked like it was made out of stones that were slowly moulding into each other, creating more of a stone slate looking platform on its side. The movement made the wall seem almost as if it were alive, something not completely refutable thanks to the liveliness of the Genesis Qi that had caused the wall to appear.
At the same time as it grew, the top was also apparently crumbling. It was like a proper visual representation of the clashing Genesis Qis in the area. The wall was generated by the skeleton, while the very same destruction was caused from the Genesis Qi of the earth.
In the end, the wall cracked right down the middle from a large undulation from the clash of Qi. A few moments later, another undulation occurred and the wall eventually fell, crumbling as it hit the ground turning into nothing but dust which picked up in the wind.
"Incredible. The clashing power of these two Qis... I really have no other words."
Qingchan giggled.
"Mmm, this is my second time coming to this place, and I have to agree. Seeing it really doesn't get old. Such natural destruction really reminds you why you have to get stronger in this world."
She seemed to reminisce for a moment before looking back at Julong.
"Now let's get ready. We're going to getting off in a few minutes, so we have to prep the Auto-Directional Transport Rune."
Julong nodded.
"Got it."
