Chapter 3 - The Build of a Hero

Brock stands there in shock and breathing hard. "After his first strike and his wounds not healing, it's obvious that he's exhausted." The students thought. A moment passed when, in an instant, Brock has now vanished, but how and where did he go. He didn't appear in front of the horse like what happened with the horse doing the same thing to Brock that first time, so did he actually disappear? Did we really lose our only hope?

No, he's somewhere in the field we just don't know where. Everyone looks around the field but they can't find him, then a student pointed and shouted, "There he is!" and everyone sees Brock in the fence bending the fence bars. How did he get over there so fast? "I think this is the same ability the horse had; does it only happen when I sprint? I might be able to use this I just have to get a hold of its speed, so I don't end up hurting myself more." Brock thought checking his body for any serious injury trying to recover. Brock, after he gets up and recovers drastically fast, runs at the horse again and vanishes once more but this time the students only see dust. The students look to the left of the horse. which is the direction the dust is flowing, and it seems be Brock sliding trying to slow himself down.

"It's sloppy but at least this time he didn't running into something." Richard reassuring his friends, everyone starts getting excited for Brock. The students cheer Brock on, even though he can't hear them, while some other students start recording his and horse's fight. As the battle starts heating up, so does Brock. Richard sees some kind of heat radiating from Brock, almost like his body is steaming with his muscles toning and hardening. It almost looks dangerous to be around him, as though the moment you step into such an aura it could burn you, is Brock dangerous now?

No matter, it seems like he has a bigger chance then the students thought. In a flash of light, Brock disappears then, all of a sudden, the horse is thrown across the field leaving a bigger damaged area in the front of its body. Its front legs are hanging on by a thread due the crater growing in its body from the hit and going through the brittle bones of the body. Then, as Brock stands there breathing less heavily, he appears next to the horse and pounds at its body. Now he is not letting up and pieces of the horse are now flying off, there's no way Brock is losing.

Then when the dust settles, Brock stands there over black powder with lighter steam radiating off his body. The battle is over, and Brock is victorious. Everyone celebrates and cheers on Brock while running to congratulate him but something's wrong. Brock then falls and collapses onto the field, unconscious. Then there's another problem on top of his collapse. His arm seems to be changing to a darker color and it also looks like it's originating from his wound.

Is this a result from the horse and an answer as to why Brock's abilities had reached a new height? The next few days, Brock is in the hospital recovering from the fight, but now his arm is completely charred and still embering being only hot to the touch, but it won't come off. The doctors can't figure out what it is because on a normal basis, the arm would fall off naturally. However, through many tests and surgical examinations, the arm won't come off, it's like armor that had been implanted into the body and would be detrimental to his health. Although, the horse didn't have this same reaction, it seems to be different in Brock's case.

Was the horse just the wrong host for this ability? Moments later, Brock wakes up and looks around the room, it's morning with the sun is barely coming up, and his mother is in the corner sleeping. "Is it that early? She must've been worried sick. I couldn't imagine the amount of stress she was going through worrying about me." Brock said under his breath.

A minute later, his mother woke up and saw Brock awake then suddenly, jumps up and runs to Brock asking a series of questions about his health, telling him how worried she was, and what happened. "Are the students, ok?" Brock asked. Mom shocked that he's worried about their health, "Y-Yes they're fine. What about you? Are you ok? Does it hurt? Try moving it."

"Mom I'm fine, to be honest, I don't feel any pain. It almost feels normal. Does it look bad?" Brock asked. "No." Mom replied.

Then when the doctor walked in, he is first surprised at the fact that Brock isn't freaking out or screaming, but the doctor looks passed that and begins to talk to Brock. "How are you feeling?" the doctor asked. Brock replies, "I'm fine, was anyone hurt?" "You mean besides you?" the doctor asked. "Yes." Brock said.

"Well let's get the formalities down first. My name is Dr. Rem Collins or Dr. Collins for short. We've noticed that you have been in a very confusing and scaring situation and my condolences go out to you and your arm there. I'm here to inform you of your health." Dr. Collins said.

"Anything seriously wrong?" Brock asked. "No. Actually, you're heathier than ever. This arm is, what we want to call it, armor." Dr. Collins said.

"Armor?" Brock asked. "Yes armor. We used many different methods of getting it off but it won't budge." Dr. Collins said.

"So, it won't come off?" Brock asked kind of worried. "That is correct." Dr. Collins replied. Mom looked at Brock worried about his reaction but he sits there silenced which made Mom and Dr. Collins worried about his reaction.

Brock sits there for a few moments and then asks, "Will it spread?" Dr. Collins stands and stares at Brock thinking about his question and how he should answer Brock's question. "It... already has." Dr. Collins said knowing that it's not only in his arm. Brock replies, "Got it."

After putting his hand on Brock, the Doctor leaves in silence and closes the door behind him. There's silence in the room and the only thing making noise is the heart monitor's constant reminder that it works. "What can I do? He's hurting I can tell and it may not be physical but he knows his life, his body, who he speaks to is changing and it won't change. Yet I want to help make it better for him so he doesn't feel alone. What should I do?" Mom thinks to herself.
