Chapter 41 - Normalcy

"Does it hurt too much?" Amelia snapped out of her imagination. How was it all in her mind? It had seemed extremely real, she could swear she had felt it all!

"Of course it doesn't!" Jasmine replied sarcastically as she clutched her stomach. However, Dylan found her flushed face adorable. "Don't you have eyes?"

Dylan's head went to one side in sheer interest. "Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

"You're sick. In the head!" When she raised her hand to jab in his temple, a sharp pain hit her stomach like a lightening bolt and she gasped again then glared hard at him as the pain subsided, he just found her reaction even cuter.

"C'mon, let me see." His hand went to under her top in a care-free manner, but before he could tug her top up, she beat his hand off.

"Don't you dare." A finger popped up in his face and he blinked at her timid reaction before raising his hands in surrender. Then she retrieved her finger, slowly. "It doesn't hurt as much anymore."

"We should go then?"

She looked him up and down, as if scrutinizing if he could be trusted, in the end, she eyed him with some sort of suspicion before she nodded. Such complications for an agreement, the urge to sigh to show his boredom was deep within him, but for some reason, he resisted.

She was very careful to look outside, both sides, even after he got out of the door very fine, then she stepped out of the door. A brow of his was arched.

"What?" She asked, looking skeptical.

"I find it amusing that you're so ignorant." He said, matter-of-factly and her mouth snapped open.

"After what you just did to me?"

"That was just you not having stamina."

"And this is you being a ridiculous jerk."

His eyes narrowed, but she just nodded and walked past him.

"Follow me if you're hungry."

On normal days, the pride in him could have made him turn and leave, but this time, there was a way she said it like she didn't care or like they were relatable friends that made him click his tongue and follow her.

"You could have just said a 'thank you'."

Her head turned to him, knowing what he was talking about, how he 'helped' her get home. "Aren't you being over-confident?" She scoffed.

"It's you being proud." He replied, pointing out what he was saying like it was her fault.

Silence enveloped them for a moment and in those minutes, she found out...

"You've been joking around!"

He only pursed his lips in invisible defeat. "You're not as stupid as I thought you were."

"Why would you think I'm..." For her, it wasn't easy to be said when it concerned her.

"A lot of things."

"For example?"

He turned to her with an eye closed, he was examining her for possible threats if he said what he wanted to, but there wasn't any. "Your mask for one."

The crease came in her brows. "What?"

"It seems mundane."

"Oh?" His head bobbed up and down. "That's good then, I was trying to look something akin to you."

"That's not true!"

With her head jerking back, she pointed continuously at him. "Oh, you're one of those people that care about the look they don't have." From the corner of his eye, he could see her clearly.

"You know that's..."

"Oh, you guys c'mon, we've been waiting, the food is getting cold."

Dylan took in a breath with his mouth open, his teeth clenched and his eyes half-closed as he stared at her from the corner of his eyes, to him, he was breathing in his words at the interruption, as he could see, Kimberly was getting impatient.

"How easily you forget you have Siblings when you're hungry." Jasmine said with her mouth turned down.

Kimberly was a bit surprised. "Oh! Sorry, I'm just really hungry."

"Of course you are, always are, I haven't figured out where it's going." Keeon threw in, looking at her like he always did, with contempt.

"That just proves I have the perfect body." Hazel face-palmed herself, there was no stopping them if they didn't want to in this case.

"You wish!"

"A person doesn't wish for what's already there!" She said, indirectly telling him he was stupid.

"In your case, it's all in your imagination." There were no replies to that, so she just widened her eyes at him, her stomach was more important by the way.

"Fascinating family." Dylan said, quietly. But Jasmine heard.

"That's the fun about family." She said before others who heard could reply.

"Really?" He didn't look convinced. "But you don't like it?"

Her hands folded on the table and as she drew close, she looked like the ultimate Boss Lady. "It's not just about liking, it's about hearing. Hearing the sounds of family normalcy."

"So there's no normalcy if there are no bickerings?"

Her head went from side to side. "You strike me as stupid with all your questions." His brows flew up.

"You have a tendency for insulting people."

"Don't conclude."

He bit his lips as if he wanted to say something, but decided against it then thought of saying it again.

"How will you eat with your mundane mask?"
