As soon as the bell ringed, I pulled Sam to the side and told him that I will tell him the truth if he can take me to the store.
He nodded but I still felt like he was mad at me.
I got into his car and the moment we got to the store and out of the car, I hugged him hard.
I could feel him fighting it a little in his brain before he finally hugs me back and we stay like that for a solid 10 minutes.
I didn't know I was crying til his hug tightened and he kissed my head before said shh.
"Lilypad, what's wrong?" he said softly and I smiled a little.
He hasn't called me Lilypad for years, ever since we were 12 actually.
Me and Sam met when my dad left me in the park, My dad told his family that it was an accident, but even at 4 years old, you can remember traumatic experiences, especially when it involves being stuck into a trash can, I tried telling his parents once, but it backfired when he told them that it was actually his wife who did it before she died and the only word I knew were daddy, and hit me cause of the abuse his wife did to me.
I felt Sam run his fingers through my hair and lay his head on mine.
"If I tell you, you can't tell anyone else, not even your parents." I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
I felt him tense a little then pull back and looked at my face.
I didn't need a mirror to know some of my makeup washed off from my tears and his shirt.
His face went from shocked, to confused, to boiling angry.
"It's your dad, isn't?" He asked with a little bit of an aggressive tone.
I have had years of experience with lying and making it believable.
But I didn't want to lie to Sam, my best friend, not anymore.
I didn't have to say anything or even nod, my face said it all.
"It started worsening after I tried telling your parents, and I've called police twice but they won't do anything since he use to be the chief of police, they think I'm just playing a joke or I am a spoiled child and trying to get my dad into trouble." I said and didn't realize I was shaking until he grabbed my hands and made me look at him.
"You aren't going back to that house." He said.
I shook my head and felt more tears coming.
"Sam you don't understand, I can't go anywhere until I'm 18, that's why I've been lying to my dad and saying I need more makeup, he gives me 20 dollars every time, right now I have $280, if you try to do something, its gonna get worse." I said and Sam hugged me again.
"But I can't just sit there and watch you get more bruises and scars." He said and I hugged him tighter.
"How about if I come by later and invite you to dinner? Will he try to hurt you after?" He said with a bit more upbeat tone.
"No but he'll come with us and keep an eye on me to make sure I don't say anything." I said and looked up at him.
"Okay, but if he puts his hands on you or even looks at you in a evil way-"
"I know, you'll karate chop him into next week." I said smiling.
He smiles and for a second I thought him look at my lips but he takes my hand and drags me into the store.
"Keep the twenty, I'm gonna buy you the makeup." He said and I started laughing.
He grinned

After asking his parents and them saying it better be for sure this time, Sam dropped me off then 20 minutes later, come knocking on the door.
I pretend to be surprised to see him and my dad came to the door, pretending to be kind.
"Seeing how we haven't had a friendly dinner in a while, I was hoping you could come today, we are having enchiladas." Sam said.
My dad said yes, and as soon as Sam left he grabbed me by the throat and threw me hard into the wall.
"Go and fix your face, and you better not say anything or it won't be pretty." He growled.
I almost couldn't hide my excitement, I ran to the bathroom and quickly put on makeup to hide my scars and to look a little more pretty, before finding the cutest outfit I have.
My dad grumbled how much he hates driving as we get into the car and drive to Sam's house.
I notice Josh's car and Amy's bike before I noticed them talking on the porch.
Sam picked me up while hugging me.
No one else could tell but I could feel the relief and tension in his hug.
"Oh good, you two made up." Josh said but I could see the happiness behind his eyes. Which makes this day even better.
My dad came towards us and looked a little angry.
I saw Josh and Amy tense up, and felt Sam wrap his arms a little tighter.
My dad put on a fake smile and past us into the house.
"Is it bad that I don't have a good feeling about your dad?" Amy asked.
I smiled a little.
"Are you okay Lily? is he hurting you?" Josh said with surprising concern.
I lie and shake my head no.
I know Sam hates that I lied, but Sam is my best friend, I don't trust Josh or Amy to keep it a secret for now.
"Hey, we actually need to talk about plans for the Halloween movie." I said trying to distract everyone and pull away from Sam.
"Right, So I think I like the haunted house idea, And we could be ourselves and just pretend to be other people while faking the paranormal." I said.
They all nodded and we started to discuss ideas and tricks when Sam's parents came to the front porch with plates full of enchiladas and 4 cans of soda.
"We heard you guys discussing ideas and stuff for the movie, so you guys can stay out here for as long as you need." They said and then gave me a hug.
"We missed you Lily, its been so long. You need to come by more often." Sam's mom said.
I smiled and nodded.
"Plus Sam won't shut up about how much he-."
"Dad! Shut up!" Sam said turning pink and red.
I looked at them both confused then looked at Josh when he started cracking up with Amy.
