James couldn't see any trace of the figure anymore but believed it was someone who walked out of Alex Rexon's house. "Someone just left the house and I guess the Rexon must be in trouble—"
"Let's go find out, come on." Nathan held onto his gun and took cover behind the tree and shrubs in the garden before walking close to Alex Rexon's house. He was shocked to see the door wide open and also noticed silence pervaded the air. He quickly urges James to give him a backup.
Moments later, he walked in and then started looking around.
Suddenly he noticed two lifeless bodies on the floor and immediately knew that the gunshot they heard minutes ago wasn't for nothing. He searched for the light button and lit it on and it was obvious Alex Rexon and Pamela Xobed were dead.
Where is Duke?
Did they kill him too?
James searched but couldn't find Duke.
Where did he go?
James' mind engaged for a while and soon disengaged when he saw the lifeless bodies on the floor mingled in thick bloodstains.
Why did the murderer switch off the light?
Nathan's mind started working but soon stopped when James' words came. "They aren't breathing—" James' eyes fell on both of them in shock. "Look, the bullet. It looks like those that were used on Edison." He added as he stared at the bullet carefully.
Nathan took the bullet and scrutinized it for a while and then looked down on James who was still examining the dead bodies of Pamela Xobed and Alex Rexon. "This was the same type of bullet that dropped Edison dead—there is kind of similarity and I am certain the killer who killed Edison killed Alex Rexon and Pamela Xobed. Didn't you say you saw a figure walking out of Alex's house a while ago? Nathan demanded.
James stood up now swallowed up in deep thoughts. "Yes, the figure was in motion but the darkness around him couldn't let me see—"
"We must go now. I am sure the killer is not done yet and anyone in Lisbon might just be his next target." Nathan said as he stared at Rexon and Pamela.
"What about them," James asked as he finds it difficult to believe the wealthy Alex Rexon was dead.
Nathan stood for a while and then suddenly knew something was wrong. The bullet, yes the bullet. I think there was a miss. Examine the body again and check their pulse." James quickly bends over Pamela Xobed and then Alex Rexon.
"Impossible!" His words caught the attention of Nathan who stood waiting for him to check them out again.
"What is impossible?"
"Rexon is still breathing—slowly. We must send for the ambulance now."
Nathan quickly started dialing his phone and ten minutes later, Pamela and Alex have been rushed away to the hospital. But Pamela has been confirmed dead already.
Minutes later, they started down the street in the direction James felt he saw the human figure heading to.
James wasn't quite comfortable with Nathan's idea of not using the police patrol van. He recalled his word with a frown.
"It is our opportunity to catch Lisbon terrorists and we must not ruin that by creating an unnecessary distraction with the van's engine sound."
He still remembered he agreed Nathan was right to some extent and also agreed that this fight was one invisible fight with so many unanticipated fears attached.
Bruno Strullid stepped into his sitting-room fearlessly. He looked around as he strived to spot out any unusual thing. Everything smells the same and as he stabbed the electric button on the wall. The light in the sitting room came on and everything looked the same just as he had felt it in the dark. Staring at the large wall clock, it was already 20 minutes before midnight and he knew nothing evil will happen since 9 pm has come and gone.
9 pm was a dangerous time and has past so also the danger, he thought. Now urging Annora, Collins, and Sandra to come in, he sat down in his favorite armchair yawning. "Lisbon sucks. I can't wait to leave Lisbon—"
"Me too Dad, I can't wait a minute." Sandra interrupted but not without looking into the eyes of Collins who hadn't said a word since they arrived.
"Ever since Alex Rexon arrive in Lisbon everything in Lisbon changed perhaps you never noticed Dad. But I did in my way and Duke is no good. I don't know what Sandra sees in him—"
"I saw nothing, absolutely nothing, Collins." Sandra shut Collins down, "Duke is in Lisbon so do I. I can't hide from him. Neither can you—we are neighbors and there isn't any affection as you think between us. So what's on your mind?"
Collin looked away and then refocused his eyes on Sandra moments later. "I never said that. Now tell me, how will you think of that at age 13. Ever think of the words affection for Duke? You are still underage and you know nothing—"
"He said he liked me but I never said anything to him and besides he is not my playmate, Nelly was. Duke is just a neighbor in the house of Madonnas—"
"So you think." Collins intruded again. "I swear he got feelings for you and you to pretend you don't know or see it? Perhaps you can prove me wrong before Dad and Mum."
Annora soon became irritated by their utterances at each other. "Stop it—will you stop trading words—both of you just stop it now. You are driving me crazy already and you know what? I don' think I liked the idea of coming home this late. We should have just slept over in Stanroff Adison's house—we just let today go and then—"
"Don't start over this again." Bruno didn't let her finish. "Stanroff Adison is a good family friend. But we have our house and fear can't take us all out.
"Donna said 9 pm and we have stayed out until now and nothing happened or seems to be happening and I believe nothing will ever happen at least for now, so relax—" Bruno shuddered as he sat back on his chair closing his eyes as though struggling to catch some sleep he has denied himself for quite some time.
