I never understood how people could view the world as a terrible or boring place. I believe that the world is only as terrible as you make it and the only thing that makes the world so bad are the idiots that try to ruin it like superheroes or corrupt politicians. Probably the main reason why I hate superheroes of most kinds. I would explain why but you'll find out sooner or later as one of the smartest people you'll ever meet I tend to not forget. One thing that I didn't forget is that my alarm clock should go off in three, two, one…
I instantly woke up in my room. I had a king-sized bed with green sheets. My room had walls that were the color of the blue sky itself along with clouds painted on the walls. My bed was in the back of the room next to a closed window. On the other side of my room, there was a wooden door, and next to it was a large brown wooden dresser with 9 drawers. On top of the dresser was my phone which was charging on my alarm clock which had a charging station on it. "Today's the day". I said.
An hour later I came out of my room door and stepped into a hallway which had three doors other than my room, across from my room door was a huge mirror on the wall that doubled as a door. I approached the mirror smiling at my reflection. Allow me to give you a mental image of who I am.
My name is Demetrius I'm 14 years old, don't worry about my last name because the sad excuse for my parents had abandoned me in an alleyway and I refuse to take the last name of my stepmother. I'm six feet and 3 inches tall 193 centimeters, I'm fairly skinny with a little bit of muscle on my legs and arms. My skin is almost as dark as my pupils so as you can see I'm a dark-skinned African American boy, currently have dreadlocks that go down to my shoulders. I tied them to the back of my head since they tend to get in the way when I'm cooking.
Right now I'm wearing one black and one white sneaker, thankfully while the high school that I'm going to is meant for a bunch of rich white kids the uniforms are optional so instead of wearing that uncomfortable uniforms. I'm wearing black jeans, a black sleeveless shirt along with a black and white Jacket over the shirt.
I took one look to my left down the hall where there were two doors; one was the bathroom on the left and the right was my stepmother Jessie's room. I went straight towards the door to her room, as soon as I got there I turned the knob opening the door to see a knife fall from the ceiling above me. Before it hit the floor I caught it by the handle and looked at the knife to see that it was from the kitchen.
"How the hell did this get here"? I said. Instead of thinking about the knife I simply looked around the room Inside the there was a king-sized bed in the corner of the room a nightstand right next to it There were sliding closet doors along the wall. Right in front of the door was a large bottle of wine that was half empty and next to the bottle was Jessie.
Jessie is a five-foot-eight-inch white woman who has a lot of muscle on her arms despite the rest of her body having the physique of an in shape woman her age with a little bit of weight on her, she also has long blond hair and green eyes. For a 39-year-old woman, she looks good for her age which is why it's not uncommon for me to have to scare off some guy who tried to get her drunk and take her home.
Today she was wearing a green button-up shirt that she once stole from me and never gave back but I didn't care for the shirt since she's already stretched the damn thing out. She also wore blue pants and a silver bracelet I gave her when I was twelve.
This wasn't a new occurrence; it was common for her to celebrate a little bit too much the night before I went up a grade. Luckily I knew damn well what to do when this happened. I walked out of the room and down the stairs into the kitchen which had white tile floors two doorways on opposite sides it had cupboards, cabinets, a sink, a stove, refrigerator, and everything you could think of being in the average kitchen.
I reached into the cabinet under the sink and grabbed a blue bucket and filled half of it with hot water I ran right back into Jessie's room and quickly poured the whole damn bucket on her while simultaneously running out of the room. The old lady reacted quicker than expected.
Once I reached the door she woke up and shouted "You tall Dark bastard when I get my hands on you I'll pull those long-ass dreads from your damned head." While she ran after me. While running towards the stairs I said "You wanna say that again for D.C.S. to hear you! In a playful manner.
When I started down the stairs I began to laugh, sorry to say that she didn't take the joke as well as I did because she immediately jumped on my back and we both fell down the stairs and when I landed at the bottom of the stairwell I saw Jessie standing over me with her handout. "For a self-proclaimed genius you love to do stupid shit child," Jessie said in a calmer tone.
"It was effective in waking you up in time so I wouldn't call it stupid," I replied while getting up myself. "You're right but don't start hyping yourself up yet we've got 24 minutes before you're late." Said Jessie. "Then come on we have no time to waste, the school is on the other side of town and you drive better right after a hangover!" I said while walking into the living room.
The living room had brown carpets, two black three-seater couches on each side of the room, and in the middle of the couches was a coffee table also a few feet in front of the table and couches was a large flat screen tv which I barely use. We both walked past the living room and I opened the front to see the flat and boring front lawn that surrounds our house which is surrounded by the neighborhood that we moved into months ago located on the south part of new Phoenix city in the state of Holloway.
The neighborhood around us was your average local suburban area full of similarly designed two-story houses surrounded by grass sidewalks and the streets which were filled with cars whether they were moving or parked in place. It was a lot more boring than the old neighborhood but a lot safer too. While I was around the neighborhood I heard Jessie throw something at me from behind without looking I caught it judging by how it felt I could tell that it was a bag and when I took one glance at it I was right the bag was camouflage green as if she stole it off of some army vet but before I could take a look inside Jessie said:
"You can overanalyze it in the car, Demi." While she walked past me and went towards the blue SUV in front of the house. I followed her to the car and she unlocked the car doors while opening and stepping into the driver's side and I opened and stepped into the passenger side. "So how do you feel?" Jessie asked while turning the car on and letting it heat up.
"You haven't even stepped foot into high school and yet you already have it figured out that's my boy," Jessie replied while she pulled out into the street and started driving down the road. While driving she turned on the radio and it played whatever popular song that has been repeated on social media. "Anyway since I forgot to do this last night cause your mama was out "
Being a flirtatious drunk like all ways." Jessie started just for me to interrupt her.
"That's not important right now either way it's time I set some rules now that you are going to high school. Rule number one you are not allowed to have any girlfriends or boyfriends until your senior year unless she or he can kick my ass and since there are hardly any people at your school with superpowers I'm sure that it will never happen.
Rule number two have fun don't be an asshole and enjoy the four years you'll be spending their cause if you don't I'll knock your invisible ass out. Okay," Jessie said in a happy tone. "Maybe," I replied in a bored tone.
"Without warning the radio turned from whatever horrific song that Jess was playing to some news station lady that said. "Hello and good day to you all I bring great news about the young hero Kite, in an interview with her last night she revealed that she is a high school freshman.
Sidewalks by a name of Katlyn Ray and she currently goes to saint Augustus Tolton High school so any guys or girls that go there, do with that information what you will ya crazy kids. And just for fun we als-". Jessie quickly turned off the radio with an angry look on her face.
I knew damn well what she was going to say so instead of letting her speak I said: "We aren't turning back now there's still a chance that nothing will happen." "Hell no, we both know that that school is gonna be a target for whatever villains of the day she faces!" she said while still driving the regular route to the school.
"We are already halfway there and I won't let some crappy D-list superhero with a rogue's gallery filled with villains as dumb as she is the reason why we turn back, and if anything goes wrong the police who are probably at the school right now will come and save us!" I said.
"Child we both know that the police are almost as useless as the average hero and they are twice as likely to shoot your black ass!" Jessie replied in an angry yet worried tone.
"So your drunk ass can go out randomly at night without caring about your safety but now you want me to live in fear of some dumbass Superhero's mistakes!" I said in a loud tone.
"I can quite literally bounce back from a gun to the face, you can't know we are going home!" Jessie yelled. To try and convince her I realized that perhaps it would be better if I made her more at ease instead of proving her wrong like usual so I said.
"I understand why your not a fan of sending me into a potential warzone but as the person that has to go through the repercussions I think I should get a huge say in this If anything happens I will either call you or run away before anything happens plus we are already like a block away so please?" I said in a calmer voice.
Jessie parked the car and said, "When you step out of this car you better run your ass home the moment you hear anything louder than a car engine am I clear Demetrius?" I opened the car door and said "Thanks Jessie I love you" while stepping out of the car.
During the car ride, I didn't take the time to look out the window but once I stepped out of the car I saw the sky scrappers, huge buildings, and cars zooming down the street. All I heard was the sound of horns honking people talking and birds squawking and all I could smell was the pollution in the air.
In the corner of my eye, I saw the gates of the school along the sidewalk where I was standing. The gates were a foot above me in height and surrounded the whole block except for the sidewalk. I strolled down the sidewalk till I came to the entrance to the schoolyard, which was full of kids of various colors and names on the other side, and if there was ever a time when I was happy, it was now, I thought to myself as I entered into the schoolyard and smiled.
I couldn't take my eyes off the school, which appeared to be a four-story structure with more windows than I could count and was built like a fortress in the Middle Ages, but it had so many entrances that I counted at least four at the front.
The building itself was far from the entrance; in fact, the space between them could be used as a parking lot if the students weren't there. The best part was that after reading the school brochure, I discovered that the school is larger than a typical shopping mall, and that right next to the main building was a two-story sports center with nothing but windows surrounding it, allowing you to see treadmills, weights, and a basketball court on the inside. It was now, if there was ever a time for me to be pleased.
"Are you enjoying the view because you look attractive for someone who needs to go to school," a girl's voice said. I turn to my right to look for the person who spoke. She was around 5'8" tall and had a black curly afro that was bigger than her head. She had black eyes and a black curly afro that was bigger than her head. She wore black yoga pants and a purple long sleeve crop top.
"What exactly do you mean?" In a perplexed tone, I inquired. She took her hand and pointed to the left side of the sports center, where a group of girls in yoga pants were conversing. "I can promise you that I was staring at the school buildings, and if I wanted to stare at those females, I wouldn't be looking at them this far away from where I can hardly see them." I responded with a tone that conveyed my disinterest in what she was attempting to accuse me of. "It's okay, half the reason I switched to this school was because of the females on the gymnastics team," she says. With a straight face, she replied.
"Do you mind repeating that?" "No, don't repeat that, I think I'd rather not hear your voice." In a perplexed tone, I said. "There's no shame in my game, and what's the point of having a voice if you can't express yourself?" She said this as the volume of her voice increased. "There's oversharing and speaking your mind, weirdo." I responded. "I'm just saying what we're both thinking, and you're wondering why I've become your only friend lately." She laughed as she said this.
"You're my friend like hell." I said this as I walked away from the building. She wasted no time in following me around like a stalker. "So you've turned into one of those emo kids who thinks having friends is a waste of time?" She retorted in a tone that made it appear as if I was bothering her.
"Lady, I don't even know who you are; please stop following me." In a rage, I responded. "Come on, I just want to talk to you like you, I haven't been outside in a while," she continued to follow me. In the midst of a swarm of students. "I apologize for whatever caused you discomfort; now, could you please stop walking?" she asked. I came to a halt in the middle of the crowd and turned around to face her. "I'm happy now," I said. "Hello, my name is Teony, and I just realized how tall you are." She said this as she looked up at me.
"We live in a world where I could move mountains, but you're taken aback by something as insignificant as my height?" I responded. "What's the harm in allowing the ordinary to be as captivating as the extraordinary?" Teony inquired. "Nice quote; where did you get it?" I responded. "Do you have any doubts that your new best friend is intelligent enough to make up a cool quote like that?" Teony stated. "Lady, you are not my friend; you are simply stupid." I responded. "I like the way you think." That I'm the one who's delusional, and you're the one who's still talking to me Simply state that you want me to be your friend." With a big smile on her face, she said.
"What kind of mental gymnastics are you employing to arrive at that conclusion?" With a puzzled expression on my face, I said. "If you're interested, I'm familiar with physical gymnastics." Teony laughed as she said this. "I apologize, but I don't recall asking." I responded. "Damn, you're not getting any of it today; did your mom forget to pack your lunch in the morning or something?" She grinned and said it sarcastically. "Jokes on you, I don't have a mother." I said, a little grin on my face.
Teony's reaction was unexpected, as was the conversation I had with her in the last few minutes. Instead of being quiet or walking away, she held out her arms and walked towards me while saying "come here man." I reacted quickly and placed my left hand on her forehead to stop her from doing whatever she was trying to do. "What are you doing?" I asked, looking around to see who was staring at me. "So I can't comfort my best friend with a nice good hug," she replied.
We're not friends, and you're not going to touch me before touching a casket. I stated. "Why not?" she asked, her tone reminiscent of a child enraged when told they couldn't play with a toy. Before I even considered answering her question, I realized what a waste of time it would be, so I just shook my head, turned around, and walked toward the school front doors, which had finally been opened by two teachers from the inside, all while a loud bell rang from the inside.
When the bell rang, everyone in the schoolyard walked or ran into the building. Finally, I murmured under my breath and followed behind them, with Teony close behind. Before we could even step foot inside the school, A five-foot-seven-inch white woman dressed in a suit and tie, as if on her way to a job interview, wore her hair in a simple ponytail in the back. Her facial expression suggested that she didn't want to be here.
"Greetings and welcome to Saint Augustus Tolton High School for the Ordinary and Extraordinary." I'm Lucille, and I'm here to make sure you understand the layout of the school before you start classes. Today, I'll be showing you around this main building and the fitness center next door, so walk with me, kids." In a bored tone, she said. "Bro, sike, please don't tell me right now that you're also following me around during this tour?" I inquired of her.
"Oh no, because you both skipped grades and are in similar grade levels, you'll be in the same classes." Do you have an issue with that?" She said it with the same expression as if we were bothering her. Teony put her hand on my shoulder and said, "No problem at all," with a smile, before I could respond. "Good because I don't care, kids, don't fall behind." Lucielle stated as she walked inside the building.
The inside of the building had brick walls that were mostly obscured by red and blue lockers that were taller than me. There are glowing crystals in the walls and fused to the ceiling instead of lights, but other than that, the inside looked like any other school. The tour was rather dull. She took us on a tour of the campus, where we met a few teachers and students. I forgot most of it because remembering it would be a waste of mental energy. But I was relieved when we reached the top floor. We three climbed the final step to find out who was surprised. This floor was identical to the previous two.
The majority of the club activities that do not involve sports or physical activities are held on this floor; the rest are held in the second building, which I will show you tomorrow." Lucielle told us as she looked down the long corridor. We had been following her for the past several hours as she had shown us around the entire building. But, unlike the other floors, this one was different. Don't get me wrong, it had the same quiet classrooms and everything, but Teony grabbed my arm as we walked down the hall towards the quiet or empty classrooms.
I turned to face her, where she was pointing to the window right next to her. "What?" In an irritated tone, I said. She yelled, "Look out the window!" I tried, but before I could see anything, the windows shattered and the walls crumbled as Teony yanked me away. What came through the broken windows and walls was a twenty-foot-long, eight-foot-tall tiger with blue fur all around it. Aside from its fur and size, the only thing that distinguished it from the average tiger was the long dreadlocks that covered every part of its body except one eye, which stared at us like the hungry animal it was.
Lucielle bolted for the steps at the end of the hallway, and we wasted no time in chasing her down. In fact, Teony and I were further away from the damned thing than we were, and the tiger was lunging at Lucille with its mouth open and claws out. Instead of running, she opened one of the classroom doors, and the tiger followed, breaking through the doorway like a grown man running through a paper house, and all we heard from down the hall was an entire classroom screaming.
I continued running towards the steps. Teony was right behind me, and we both had a terrified expression on our faces. I dashed down the stairs, but Teony jumped from the railings on the top step and somehow landed right in front of me at the bottom. I looked at her, and she returned my gaze. Then we both looked up at the third-floor sealing as we heard more blood-curdling screams followed by a loud roar heard throughout campus.
"Come on, you can stare later," she yelled as she grabbed my hand and we both ran down the stairs and onto the second floor, where students and teachers were staring at us, then upstairs, where screams and roars could be heard clearly.
We rushed to the staircase on the other side of the floor, but debris from the second floor began to fall on us halfway there. Then the entire sealing above came crashing down from above, and dust blanketed the area around us. Hearing was the only sense I could rely on, and all I could hear was a growl.
But then, out of nowhere, most of the dust cleared away, and the tiger was staring at me with its cold white eyes, its dreadlocks pointing to different sides of the room that I couldn't see because some of the dust was slowly clearing away, but once it did, all I saw was its dreadlocks being used to decorate the walls with the students and teachers on the second floor, and the tiger continued to stare at me as I stared at it. Both of us locked our gazes and didn't even think to blink, the tiger because he probably thought it was all a game, and me because I realized it was the only thing keeping him from murdering me.
After a few seconds of staring, I noticed a swarm of students in the left and right corridors staring at me. "Ayo, what the hell is that?" one of the kids asked. While staring at the tiger, I thought to myself, "If these bozos don't run already." Without warning, one of the students snapped a photo with the flash on, causing the tiger to growl and charge at me when a chair appeared from the left hallway and hit the tiger in the head.
I turned in the direction of the chair to see Teony, who I dashed towards as she ran down the left hallway. I asked no questions and just followed her down the hallway where there were stacks of chairs and shelves that she had set up herself. I was running as fast as I could through the halls and even caught up to Teony once we were halfway through, all while I and Teony were jumping over chairs like hurdles and the tiger was scraping and breaking the walls and lockers trying to catch up to us.
To make matters worse, a few students were still hiding in some of those lockers, but there was no time to mourn because we were almost at the end of the hallway and the tiger was nowhere in sight. Teony grabbed my arm and pulled me into a dark room while screaming "trust me" as we got closer to the staircase.
There was a desk, a bookshelf, and a door off to the side of the room. Teony dashed over to the desk and opened the drawer. When we opened the drawer, we discovered a slew of phones, cameras, and tripods. "If you're half as smart as you think you are, you'll know what I'm thinking." Teony stated his case. Teony grabbed as many tripods as she could carry and began setting them up on the desk while I placed the cameras and phones on them. When we were finished, we started setting the phones and cameras to a ten-second countdown and then turned on the flash.
We've got ten seconds. How are we going to persuade him to come over here? I inquired. Keep the closet door open, she said, grabbing the chair at the desk and sprinting to the door we came in through. I did exactly that, not wanting to question her after she had gotten me this far. Teony threw the chair in its direction as she opened the door, not even flinching at the sound of its roar.
Teony dashed towards me, dragging me into the closet with her and closing the door behind us. We took a look out the closet window. All we could hear were the tiger's loud steps, which nearly shook the entire hallway, including the room we were in, but it got worse as I could hear Teony's anxiety for our plan to work because we only had a few seconds. For better or worse, she had nothing to be concerned about when the tiger burst into the room, tearing down the wall and blocking the light with its body and shadow. I looked down to see Teony grinning like a lunatic as the cameras started to go off.
First one, then two, and finally every single camera went off, flashing so brightly that the tiger's roar turned into a scream. The tiger dug its hind legs into the floor and pounced on the cameras, but because the flashing lights made it difficult for the tiger to see, it instead pounced on the wall and easily broke through it. Teony and I dashed out of the closet and towards the Tiger's massive hole in the wall. When we looked outside, we saw the tiger on the school grounds screaming in agony, like a child who had been hit with a baseball bat.
I saw smoke coming from him, and his eyes caught fire as his dreadlock dug into the ground. Despite the fact that people were running around near the beast, all it could do was flail its arms around like it was having a temper tantrum. It didn't take long for the tiger to become accustomed to the pain, and even though it was still burning and its eyes were black as charcoal, it tried to stand on two legs, but luckily all of the students had fled or were hiding. I realized something as I saw the tiger's skin begin to burn.
"Teony, follow me," I said as I dashed into the corridor, and Teony was right behind me. "I'm not sure why, but for some reason, I'm not scared right now." "What about you?" Teony said with a smile. "Right now, say sike." With a surprised expression on my face, I continued running through the blood-splattered corridor. "What do you mean? I think it's a good thing we're not afraid of situations like this." Teony responded.
"Who's we? "I had to look that b*tch in the eyes." I screamed. "There's no way you're scared and still here right now, come on." Teony stated. "I've been terrified for the past ten minutes, and I hate to say it, but your annoying ass is the only thing that's kept me alive so far." As we neared the end of the hallway where we began, I responded while keeping up the pace. I dashed toward the stairs leading to the bottom floor, and Teony followed. This time she didn't even try to show off like she did the last time we were on a flight of stairs.
"Does this mean you'll accept my offer to be my new best friend?" Teony inquired. You're only looking for me, aren't you? Why me?" I inquired. "At first I thought you were joking because it was funny to see how you reacted, but you seem like someone who doesn't want to admit how badly he wants someone to talk to." For example, you followed me and trusted me to follow you right now despite your dislike for me." Teony responded as we approached the bottom floor, where students were hiding behind desks.
We were both silent until we looked outside, where the tiger was staring at us despite the fact that its eye sockets were dark holes of ash. We expected it to charge at us, but before it could take a single step, a stream of white fluid descended from above like a water hose and struck the tiger's face, causing it to scream in agony as the fluid began to sizzle on the tiger's face.
Right after her was a five-foot-five-inch-tall white woman with a long blonde french braid in her hair and black eyes wearing a skin-tight all-white costume with a cape that went down to her elbows; she was so slim that I was surprised she didn't break her legs when she jumped down from the upper floors. The Tiger charged at her full force, and she ran into the school entrance where we were, and the tiger slowly followed behind her because she had no idea where she was going. The same white fluid came out of her feet, but instead of melting the floor, she used it to slide across the floor around myself and Teony, forming a white circle and looping back around to the tiger.
She threw a quick right hook that smacked the damn thing in the jaw, causing it to roll toward the school's front gate. And the tiger began to scream even louder, most likely because the school's shadow was no longer over it, not to mention that from what we saw as it was rolling away, it was most likely a boy from. Even though it was getting weaker by the minute, it kept getting back up while the woman stood there. I couldn't make out her face.
I could tell she was perplexed because she wasn't present when we threw it out the window. "It's weak to sunlight, keep it away from any dark areas," I said as I walked up to her, nearly slipping on the stuff she'd put on the floor. "In that case, someone of your skin tone should stay back." As she ran towards the tiger, she replied. Teony came over to my side and rested her head on my shoulder. "Did she just say that out loud?" Teony wondered. "I'm already enraged; I don't need any more reminders of why I despise superheroes." I said with a scowl on my face.
"Wait, why do you despise superheroes?" Teony inquired. "I'll go over it later." I responded because all I could think about at the time was the fight in front of me. The woman, who I'm guessing was the "hero" Kite, arrived at the location where the tiger had landed. The tiger stood on all fours, barely keeping its posture, and the dreadlocks on its right shoulder acted like snakes, all attempting to strike her at the same time.
More of that white liquid came out of her legs and she slid under the tiger while shooting more of it from her hand and using it to make her go even faster as the dreadlocks under the tiger tried to get her but the stuff that came from her hands was different instead of being slippery it was sticky which made the tiger unable to move its feet and dreadlocks once kite came from under the tiger she used the substance from her hands to help her jump on it's back.
The dreadlocks on its back tried to strike her, but she spun around like a ballerina as she spat that same acid from her mouth dodging the hit while burning it with the acid until she got to it's head kite jumped up as two dreadlocks tried to get to her mid air she grabbed both of them and pulled herself towards it's head and kicked it square on the forehead as she spit out more acid like a fire hose causing it to scream in agony even louder than before, and eventually the screams stopped, and all we heard were police sirens, and kite was running to Teony and I while paramedics followed.
Some of them went to check on the students who were lying on the ground, while others ran past us and either up or down the hall. Meanwhile, the kite came to a halt directly in front of us. "I apologize for being a little late, but you have to admit it was one of my best entrances," she said, smiling and holding out her hand. I looked around at the blood and bodies strewn about the school and its grounds. At the time, all I could feel was rage.
"What took you so damn long?" I inquired. Teony yelled as she walked out of school. I just stood there with the same irritated expression on my face. You'll be surprised how difficult it is to get this suit on. I can't go out there looking like a moron, especially since only a few people were hurt." Kite responded with the same expression. It was as if everything was a joke to her, as if the fact that I witnessed people being killed because she took so long was amusing to her. "Like I was saying, sorry I'm a little late," she said again, returning my gaze.
I refused to accept it. So I immediately punched her in the left eye.
