Adair Barton's consciousness had long been erased by Owen Bertram using the Commander's Token. All that remained was the purest of spiritual essence, so despite being strenuous, Lord's devouring process was unimpeded.
This was a slow absorption process. Owen Bertram did not have the patience to wait, so he opened the storage brocade pouch containing the two coffins.
The golden coffin was originally holding Calvin.
During the day, Owen Bertram had given Calvin, as an important "human witness", to his Horizon Captain. He unpried the coffin that formerly housed the Mesmerizing Demon and indeed, he found Calvin discarded inside!
However, the Mesmerizing Demon seemed to really like the golden coffin and did not want to come out of it.
As soon as Owen Bertram opened the storage pouch, he could feel the girl inside the golden coffin shivering.
