Lady Ilda did not betray the "Fire of the Stars." If she discussed with Owen Bertram in secret to pass messages of the Divine Religion and the Empire to him, the flame seed embedded in her soul would immediately react and burn her to ashes when she converted to the Fire of the Stars.
However, merely reaching the level of tacit agreement of "non-aggression" would not be considered betrayal, and thus would not trigger an overreaction from the Fire of the Stars in the Void.
Master Bertram went along to the Void Sky Road and was very pleased with the barbarian slave business. The enormous wealth of the Nine Witch Demon Court was continuously pouring into the Wood Dynasty. The current issue was that this wealth was still in the hands of the elite class, and needed to be further transferred to the Imperial Court.
