Chapter 10 - A Touch of Flirting

HE LOOKED BACK. The sly smile played on his lips did not escape Angeline's eyes. She watched the guy walking back toward her. A deep sigh she let out into the air.

This man is a meltdown to my sanity, she thought sadly. Admiring his handsome face and the way he walked, a manly aura with confidence and irresistible charms. She wondered how she could marry him without an achy-breaky heart.

"Changed your mind already?" He strode towards her.

"I'll let you know when I'm desperate," she replied, smiling. "My key, please..." she added, holding her hand.

Angeline was so shocked by the man's audacity. She sighed as his hand slipped to her waist and pressed his body against hers.

"You are perfect for my ego, Angel," he taunted. Then he frowned.

"W-Why?"

"Your perfume seems familiar..."

"But of course, it's a great brand. Many users that it made popular. May I have my key?"

"The key... I don't think you need it right now," he said. Staring intently into her eyes. "You're too beautiful to ride that one... And not safe for your condition."

"Don't start flirting with me, Jacob," she said. Their closeness made her crave the spice of romance, one thing that's missing in her life.

Her palms were touching his chest to put distance. But she could feel the tightening of the grip of his hand on her back.

"It was never in my book to get your attention," he said formally. "If our old are not messing up with us. I could have done something worth my time right now. Instead of trying to convince an unwilling lady in distress."

Ouch! This guy was arrogant, her mental reaction. He let her go when she struggled intensely. Then she kept her distance. Maybe he knows I had a crush on him. But that was then. Never now. But how can I make this conceited oaf fall in love with me so that what he told me just now, I will lay down on his plate one by one and make him eat it all in front of him? He is so insulting. My pride is bleeding.

She was stunned when he pressed his index finger to her forehead.

"Can you take that finger off away from me?"

"Your brain is floating somewhere again... Thinking of the guy who got you pregnant?"

"You're right, Jacob. I should have just tied to the body of that guy I want to hook for life..."

"That's what I called desperation..."

"Okay, cool, "she grinned in response. "And may I call you Narcisse? That should be what your parents named you for precisely. "

"You think I'm Narcissistic?"

"Sometimes, you sound like one..."

He barked with laughter.

"You're annoying me. You said you were not flirting with me, then what are you doing? " Without a smile, she returned his gaze.

"Ah... Your grandmother suggested it early this evening," he said, raising one hand. The back of it started to caress her cheek. "I need to speed up my action so we can get married quickly, and they will have grandchildren. She gave me all the options..."

They stared at each other.

Angeline was speechless at that moment. She felt floating. The gentle caress of his hand on her cheek sent awareness to her senses, especially the closeness of their bodies.

Her face bathed in the man's fragrant breath, which made her lips feel dry at the sensation brought by his caress. She closed her eyes. Then she felt his lips robbing it to her lips. He planted a kiss on her lips like a feather touch.

She immediately opened her eyes. For a moment, their eyesight inches away were connected.

"Don't," he said in a cold, distant voice. "I've seen that kind of look before. Missing your new boyfriend, hmm? "

"Silly..."She retorted. She slipped out of his arms. Not paying attention to the warmth of her cheeks. "Go away." She abruptly walked away from the man who was laughing at her. She did not bother to look back.

She could still hear Jacob's crazy laugh. She accelerated her steps into the Hall.

When she closed the door of her room and locked it, she leaned against it. She took a deep sigh and released into the air. Once again, she felt the tightness of her chest wrapped in intense sadness.

How long will she pretend to be happy in front of her family even though she has been suffering emotionally since returning to her grandmother's care? How can she go on living like this?

She could feel the warmth in the corner of her eyes. And that's what makes her so angry with herself, her weakness. And most of all, the expectation that one day she would receive news from Odette about the personality of the man she had slept with that night.

Who are you? Why can't you be lost in my heart and mind, she wondered. Was I just a one-night moment with you and nothing? Is that what I was meant to you that night? Just a night of craving?

She did not bother to turn on the lights in her bedroom. In an instant, she disappeared into her room, appeared on the rooftop, and sat down.

Her eyes surveyed the quiet surroundings with a glimpse of moonlight's waxing gibbous phase illumination. It was only lights on the street below her and some buildings and houses' lights.

She laughed at the thought that her two sisters would be shocked when they saw what she had done disappearing and appearing elsewhere. But she could not tell them because, as the youngest of the three, telling them they might consider she was losing her sanity. She had also observed her two siblings for a long time, but she was the only one in their family who could teleport like this. Only abilities she had discovered that she has because of a life event depend on it. And even the blood she offered him added to his life, but no one knew what she did. She did not want to think but based on her research about the gradual change in her persona, that she is no different from a vampire.
