Chapter 2 - A general's lies—Chapter 2, Season 1

Xiao Chen was having a hard time helping Feng into his car, for he was much heftier for someone his height..."What in the world did Fengfeng eat, is he usually this heavy?"His classmate chuckled beside them, helping them into the taxi.

"He's pretty light, maybe you're just over dramatic. Plus, earlier in one of the activities, you were seriously much heavier—were you the one who ate something weird, possibly?"Xiao Chen denies in an odd tone, claiming nothing was too special with whatever he ate hours ago.

"You sure? Well, just be careful on your way back. Maybe you ate a little too much; don't go messing up anything!"His classmate then bid them goodbye, still on his phone instead of drinking anything earlier.

"You too!...(All he did was swipe through his phone, weirdo...)"He pushed Feng into the passenger seat, as he remained silent. His face was still as bland, even with all the alcohol he had drunk. Xiao Chen didn't seem to notice, as he stated the location to the driver.

"Urgh..."Feng felt immense heat, and he began to mutter erratic words. The driver felt as if there was something wrong, and he turned to look at Feng; he was completely unaware of the bus crossing the road, barely a few seconds from a brutal crash.

The hood of the taxi crashed directly onto the side of the bus, the impact causing permanent brain damage to the driver. The airbag had failed to emerge, and Feng, along with Xiao Chen, went through a severe coma. Crimson red blood began to drip from all of their heads, and the driver struggled to breathe.

Worried bystanders quickly began to gather around the incident, and they hurriedly called an ambulance. The accident quickly spread across the city, with the taxi driver passing away upon arrival at the hospital. Xiao Chen and Feng had survived on the way, but it seemed far too futile to hope that both of them would make it out alive.

Feng's adoptive parents immediately got the news, as well as Tiantian. She and her parents didn't waste time; they felt as it was racing with them, and if they were too late Feng would not be able to make it through.

Shortly after arriving, Tian was in tears. She had a meltdown, and her parents had to help her up and see Feng. Her cries no longer reached him, as his consciousness no longer lingered. It had been parried off into a bone-chilling blizzard.

On the other hand, Feng heard a high-pitched scream perforate through his eardrums. Feng did not recognize the voice, and he began to hear several footsteps heading into the room."My lord, you are finally awake!"His eyes flickered open, and he sat up from his bed. His pillow felt far too high up for his neck to bear; he looked around in confusion." What...where am I?"

"Your chambers, my liege. Do not fret, for we have already prepared your desired dish."The guard, dressed in layers and layers of steel armor, frantically ordered the maid to bring in the dish. She had been the one to scream, and was still in shock as the general had not awoken for months."Ehm...rice and noodles?"

"My liege? Do you not prefer noodles as much as you used to?"The rest of the guards began to fix their armor pretentiously, fearing the worst."Oh, It's alright." Feng grabbed the chopsticks by the right side of the tray, but halted as he felt a thousand eyes watching him in fear."What's gotten into all of you? It smells extraordinary, therefore it must taste amazing. You are further dismissed."

The guards laggardly raised themselves, bowing before leaving the chambers. The maid remained, and she stood there in a rigid manner. Feng was confused as to why, but he still finished the bowl."Thank you for the meal. It was delicious, is this your cooking? You may leave now."He handed the bowl to her." It is,t-thank you, my lord..." you could hear her hyperventilating even after leaving. Her footsteps disappeared but again, and Feng earned a moment to think for himself.

"What is going on?... Where in the world is this place?... Why am I even..." He spotted a mirror by the table nearby. He grabbed it and looked at himself in the mirror with haste. He had not retained his old looks, but he now had a very well sculpted face and a tall figure. He was displeased with this; nevertheless, he had to live with it.

Meanwhile, a few rooms away from the chambers, the guards were loudly chattering about the general's strange behavior. He would usually scream at them consistently until their faces turned pale, so why is it now that he was being nice?"

Do you think General Feng has forgotten everything?"One of the guards spoke nervously to the other. As the conversation went on, the maid earlier rushed towards them, with a bright smile and tears in her eyes..."Xishe, what happened?... Did the general do it again?..."

"No, not at all! He even complimented my cooking, I hope he stays like this for the rest of our days..."

The guards looked at each other, completely astonished." D-Did...he really?" the guard stuttered. She kept crying, as the previous general Feng had been cruel to them whenever they had messed anything up.

"Say, should we try and confront him about this?.." one of them replied."What? Have you gone mad? He'll realize and return to his old self! Best we keep him this way, he's never been this polite, especially to us!" she responded, wiping her tears away.

"Besides this strange behavior, did his majesty not speak of a certain appointment he wishes to have with our general once he has awakened? He reminded us himself."Another one of them interrupted."Right, we'd better inform him."

Feng soon got a hold of his situation. This couldn't be real, but he expected death if he failed to fulfill his mission, which he wasn't even told of. It's like he ended up in a game that was never given a tutorial, a game that could quite possibly end his life in more ways than one.

He soon heard a knock on his chambers."My lord, have you finished your preparations? His Majesty wishes to see you!"Feng began to panic."Give me a moment, I'll be right out."A few minutes passed, and Feng had come out dressed in the general's armor.

The guards were seeing him differently, and they forgot to make way for him."...Excuse me?" they then realized, and quickly moved away to make a path for the general."Apologies, my lord..." they said so in sync, some of their voices still trembling. Feng remained skeptical of the current scenario, but he had to go along with it.

When he had arrived by the entrance of his majesty's chambers, his guards bowed shortly, before leaving side by side. General Feng excused himself and entered, kneeling on the ground as he faced the emperor. The man in royal robes began to speak whilst sitting on his bed leisurely."You're awake? What a pleasant surprise. I haven't gotten news from you since a few months ago, have you fully recovered?"

Feng did not know how to respond. He felt his body stiffen, this man could very easily end his life if he spoke of the wrong words."Y-your majesty, you are far too modest...his majesty should not be concerned over someone as I."The emperor remained silent for a few seconds, before bursting out in laughter."Ahahaha! You've changed your wording since I have last met you, little Feng! You've earned more respect for me, I see."

"(Does that mean the previous general was more casual with his majesty?)"Feng shook his head in an accident."(..No matter.)"The emperor's eyes widened, and he spoke in a livid tone."Is that a no?..."Feng immediately lowered his head further upon realization."Forgive me, your majesty! Something was on my mind, and—"The emperor impetuously grabbed him by his face, and tilted it left to right before shoving it directly near his own."Where are those two."

The emperor's eyes showed nothing but a blank mirror that reflected his face, but you could see that his face had been distorted. Feng needed an excuse, fast. He didn't know anything; if he got the answer wrong, he can expect an immediate execution."...I—"

Just then, a knock on the door broke the silence."Father, father? Who is in there with you?"The emperor, shocked, did not miss a beat. He flailed Feng's face lavishly, before opening the doors to reveal the crown prince, emmiting a bedazzling aura."Son?..."The crown prince bowed, before taking his turn to speak."Father, have you requested for my presence?"The emperor, completely overwhelmed, cannot control his expression."It's a miracle...you've also awakened!"
