Chapter 309 - Day 309: Destruction (III)

Now that Marjorie had mentioned the sages again, it was not very difficult for Blake to assume that perhaps they were the counterparts of the sovereigns. The runic path and magic were quite similar in terms of their power structures and way of functioning, it was like an unwritten law in the world, so if the runic path could give birth to powerful beings like sovereigns, it wouldn't be too strange if the path of magic might have the sages as a representation of the greatest force in their area, but although Blake was thinking deeply about it, he would still ask Marjorie shortly since he was now still immersed in the story that his master was transmitting to him.

It went without saying that Blake was well aware that the survivors of the era of disconnection went through a lot, the least he could do was feel some empathy deep down, but now, he had a better understanding of that event and all its consequences, plus to understand some aspects that Lynn mentioned before.

"The fall in the quality and quantity of rune energy in the Futhark, combined with the reduction in population not only of each of the races but throughout the world, resulted in a period of time in which the Futhark was forced to retreat several steps concerning its previous development." The destruction of the cities and governments had caused all the inhabitants of Futhark, compared to the past, to put their differences aside and unite to recover what they had once lost. "In addition to the large groups of races that united in what they considered their homelands, this being the case of the elves, mers, and dwarves. Many other groups composed of a wide variety of the same races came together with the sole objective of choosing and forming a place to call home, such as Yamato Island which was a land taken by the survivors of the rune clans of the time, or simply make the one they already knew before reborn, the main ones being the kingdom of Norad or some kingdoms that were transformed over time."

"How long ago did all that happen?" Blake asked that simple question because, despite everything he had heard, he didn't know the exact time since all that had happened and it was something he needed to know.

"At this moment we are in the year one thousand six hundred and ten of the fourth era of rebirth, each era covers a period of fifty thousand years, so…"

"More than a hundred thousand years…" Blake somewhat completed what Marjorie was about to say, but it was still a huge surprise to him. From the way they talked and referred to the past, Blake guessed that a long time had passed since the era of disconnection, but he didn't think it was too long.

"A little more than one hundred and fifty thousand years in reality… That is another reason why we can only rely on ancient records that have been proven true as well as the inheritances left by the survivors, there are even clans and families with stories that span up to that time, which is why not many people give enough attention to something they have no knowledge of or are simply not interested in what happened thousands of years ago and take the present as the only important thing." Although Marjorie tended to ignore some important issues, she had always considered the disaster of the era of disconnection as something that should always be kept in mind.

The world had changed, it had become weaker compared to the Futhark before the disaster, and the mere fact that not a single sovereign or sage had been born to date, in addition to the little interaction and presence of the guardians in the world, implied that the price that the runic energy had to be paid to reverse all the damage in the world had been quite considerable.

"I don't want what I'm going to tell you next to take deep root in you... But from your expression, it seems that you yourself realized it." Marjorie looked with a serious face at Blake since her words had been guessed by him again.

"The enemy… The legendary golem. It was simply sealed, there is nothing to say that it was defeated... Doesn't that mean that at any moment the same disaster as in the era of disconnection could be repeated?" Blake managed to understand that after analyzing Marjorie's words, and it was as he had said, that enemy had arrived without warning in Futhark, there was nothing that gave a clue about his background other than the phrase born from the stars, so nothing ensured that tomorrow the world would not be plunged into chaos by of the same enemy or something similar, and with the weakening of the runic energy, perhaps it would not be so simple to return everything to the way it was before...

"Sometimes they say that ignorance brings happiness, or even that it is a gift for some, but that in itself can also be what causes its own destruction. It's like Major Marjorie said, it's good that you know the history of the world and about the disaster of the age of disconnection, but don't let that become some kind of demon in your heart, Blake." Lynn could guess that Marjorie finished with her explanation, and seeing the situation, she felt that he could intervene a little. "Thousands of years have passed since that event, until now Futhark has enjoyed relative peace and development, the races grew and spread again, the kingdoms and empires rose up so that everyone knew they were there, the magic and the runic path was born again despite the remains that remained of them. Everything has taken time and effort, many people have left their name in the history of the new age while others have simply gone unnoticed, we are not immortal beings in this world, our time is limited, perhaps it is a gift or a disadvantage, but for that reason we must be clear about something, and that is to take advantage of all the life that was given to us... And if the next time you wake up you see the world in a crisis of that nature, then use your own strength to change everything and recover the world you knew!"
