Chapter 192 - Day 192: Eternal life (II)

Silence had returned between them, they had once again taken a seat on the comfortable floor of the Sharance tree and only the sound from outside produced by some insects or the wind could fill that moment, but it wasn't long before Mei spoke.

"Well, I think I could see everything that bothered me, so I can stay relatively calm. As an apology for all this, I will allow you to ask me some questions that may be on your mind, so do not waste the opportunity." Mei spoke without showing any emotion at the time, although she wasn't lying either, she would sincerely answer Blake's questions.

Blake felt that such a reward wasn't entirely fair after Mei experimented on him, but he had already received a special runic ability and information about special physiques. She was telling him that he would answer any questions he had, so he couldn't complain too much

"Well… I was able to hear this before, but is it true that the great master is over three hundred years old?" Blake was direct, maybe it was rude to ask a woman how old she was, but he was very curious. He already knew that his perception of time was somewhat wrong concerning the world, but from what Shara had explained to him, he could get an idea of how it worked, and comparing Shara's age with Mei, it was strange that she would still look young if she really was that age.

"I see from your question that Shino didn't explain that to you either, surely he was waiting for you to be ready to cross over to the primary runic realm to tell you, but I said that I would answer your questions, so turn your attention back to me." Blake braced himself for what seemed like another explaining session. "That's right, my age is over three hundred years old, more specifically, I'm three hundred and eighty-six years old right now. First, you should know that the average life expectancy of a common person is around two hundred and seventy."

That made Blake's eyes widen a bit since Mei had clearly passed that age a long time ago.

"And to answer the question that's on your mind right now, the reason why I'm past that age and why I still look young is precisely because I practice the runic path." Blake already had a little idea of where all this was going. "Although this is not something exclusive to the runic path since, if you become a wizard or witch it works in the same way. In short, every time you reach a new realm, your longevity increases with it, which means that your life expectancy will be higher compared to ordinary people."

Although something like this was already expected, it was just as surprising for Blake to find out about it since it meant that he could live a long time compared to what he believed up to that moment. He now understood a bit how Shino and Marjorie felt when he showed them something that was totally far from her common sense.

"For example, if a person becomes a wizard or witch, or, conversely, enters the runic awakening realm, their life expectancy will increase by fifty years." Just hearing that was quite tempting. "That is also one of the reasons why many people seek to at least reach this level for their entire lives, perhaps that amount of time is not important for some powerful beings, but for ordinary people, it is a relatively long amount of time."

Blake thought about that and his situation came to mind, but Mei stepped forward to answer him.

"In your case, since you are both in the realm of runic awakening and a One-rune wizard, you might think that even your life expectancy could be increased by a hundred years directly, but as you know, your situation is quite special, it may really what I said or just increased fifty years like everyone else." Mei didn't want to delve into it too much since she had no way of answering. "Going back to before, this is also one of the reasons why I look young now. Despite my age, my level in the runic path could be considered quite high, so my life expectancy has already increased several times as well as my life energy. I keep getting older, but the rhythm is quite slow regarding the number of years that I can still be alive."

Blake kept thinking about it at the same time that he had a crazy idea, but Mei had to make him forget about it.

"And no. Don't think that if you become a Runic emperor or a Six-rune wizard you can live forever. Just so you know, if you're lucky and can become either, your life expectancy increases by fifty thousand years."

"Fifty thousand?!" Although it wasn't as exaggerated as his idea of living forever, Blake couldn't help but shout that question not caring that Ragna was asleep almost next to him, but the initial surprise had been too much for him, even if he didn't live forever, that much of time was already exaggerated enough for him.

"Did you think that the time that an ordinary person lives is enough to fully master the runic path or that of magic? There will always be geniuses who can break time records, but they would still take centuries or millennia to even think about a set foot on the top of every field." Blake nodded to all of that, though it also made him wonder how old Majorie was, it was pretty clear to him that she must be at least a Four-rune witch, so he couldn't guess it.

"That's right, my master told me about the existence of the sovereigns, does the great master know how much their life expectancy of them increases?" Blake asked that question since he was quite curious.

"Answering your question, there is nothing clear as the world has not witnessed the birth of a sovereign since ancient eras, although, according to legends, someone who became a sovereign… Made their life expectancy increase by a million years…" And with just that, Blake's mouth fell open unconsciously.
