Chapter 9 - Only 10 Victims (1)

The three people in the hospital room felt the sound slowly disappearing in their ears as their bodies trembled. Perhaps the sound enveloped their entire being and they were getting used to the awe-inspiring sound. Though they didn't know what it was, the frightening voice slowly disappeared into nothingness.

Human fear of the unknown is primitive. It is an innate human emotion that has long been of interest to experimental psychologists and evolutionary biologists. However, things arising from the unknown are not yet taken seriously enough as a disease factor and scientific approaches derived from the clinical phenotype (Structure-appearance) of the human brain have not been taken into account for a long time.

It sounded like a pipe. Since there is no string of notes in the pipe sound, it is called the pipe sound. It had nothing to do with the sound coming out of the pipe. This sound, which had just engulfed and informed all souls, could not be associated with any musical note. Nobody could do that.

No living creature or any object could do it.

What was that?

Aldrich's entire body was paralyzed when he heard the voice. His short hair stood erect as if he had been electrocuted. His ears were still ringing from the sound. His breathing quickened and he was frightened. His whole being was frightened. A primal feeling seemed to pervade his entire body. Perhaps this primitive feeling was instilled in the body and soul of all humans, no, all living things...

Seeing the beams of light he saw, he instinctively became wary. Instead of reaching for the blue light beam with his rough hand, Aldrich stepped back a little away from the blue light beam and looked out of the corner of his eye to check if the girls were okay. After collecting his breath and calming his emotions, he spoke in a low tone. It took too long to even do that.

"You've all heard that, haven't you? ''

As soon as Elfida heard Aldrich's sound, her legs bent and she couldn't stand it any longer. She sank to the ground. With trembling hands, she caressed her little heart. For a moment Aldrich forgot the primal horror of the sound and was drawn into the landscape that resembled the 'big' waves of the ocean.

"Yes." Elfida nodded like a little gazelle, her voice sounding like the hum of a mosquito. But her eyes seemed to be focused not on Aldrich but something in front of her. Her eyes were slowly following something unseen in the air.

"So both are not dreams..."

Freed from his distraction, Aldrich moved away from the windowsill and came over to Silvanna.

"Silvanna?"

''....''

"Silvanna?"

Even a healthy and strong man like him was horrified for a few seconds. How can Silvanna be in good shape? Aldrich reached over to the corner of the bed and pressed the device on a certain part of the bed. He had become accustomed to sudden and dangerous situations as he and Silvanna had seen the stages of this disease one after the other. He sat on the edge of the hospital bed when he saw the beep flashing. Aldrich put his ear to Silvanna's frail chest and listened anxiously to Silvanna's heart.

Loup-

Dup-

Loup-

Dup-

Aldrich drew back with a sigh of relief. After examining the vitals next to the hospital bed, the worry disappeared from his face. Everything looked fine. Considering that what had just happened wasn't a hallucination, Aldrich gently took Silvanna's bone-like hand with his rough hand. His other hand caressed Silvanna's sunken cheeks very slowly and said to Silvanna's ears 'it's okay dear' 'everything will be fine'.

Consolation words...

Elfida had already shifted her attention from the beams of light in front of her and was watching Aldrich intently, who was controlling Silvanna.

"Aldrich, is Silvanna all right?" Elfida asked worriedly, seeing Aldrich studying what the machine next to her hospital bed was showing. Unlike Aldrich's cold-blooded reaction, Elfida looked extremely panicked.

"It seems okay," Aldric replied confidently. He learned from doctors and nurses what these machines do, how to use them, and how to understand their functions of them. He believed that his instant judgment was correct with his long experience.

"Aldrich, is Silvanna asleep? Has she passed out?" Elfida asked again, however, as her anxiety did not subside.

"She mostly spends most of her time sleeping, but she's not in that state right now. It's kind of... She seems unconscious but I don't know, she could be conscious as well. Hmm... I'm not sure though, just in case I called the doctor and she should be back in 3 minutes.' '

'' Are you sure?''

''There doesn't seem to be any bad sign. If she is unconscious, it may be a good thing for her to be unconscious. The body regenerates faster and can relieve the shock. ''

''The sound from before is seriously...''

"Considering the possible stun from the voice just now, the doctor should be here in 5 minutes at the most. Doctors have smartwatches on their wrists, a watch made for the emergencies of serious and special patients.

"İt's good. Good..." Elfida said weakly as some of her anxiety eased.

Aldrich held Silvanna's hand tightly as he stared at the beams of blue light floating in front of him. His eyebrows were so close together that they almost formed the shape of a small bird. He muttered as if he were speaking to both Elfida and himself.

"During this illness, she was in much worse situations..."

''It will be fine. Everything should be fine, today is a happy day after all...''

The feature that enables people to survive even in the wild and to control nature came into play at this time.

Adaptation.

After a few seconds of breathing, the whole situation calmed down.

But there was a problem.

There is always a problem.

It should always be.

No people, no problems.

Aldrich pointed at the empty air with his index finger and asked.

"So what is this?"

He asked Elfida to confirm his suspicion.

"Do you see the beams of light, little witch?"

''....''

When Aldrich didn't get an answer from the little witch, he spoke a little louder.

"Hey! Elfida!!!"

Again met with silence, Aldrich shouted sullenly.

'WHO am I calling? ''

"Agh. Don't shout ! Don't shout ! I see it. There are particles of light that are black and flying in the air. They are floating in front of me. They are beautiful... I've never seen anything so beautiful, Aldrich…" Elfida turned her head with difficulty and nodded positively.

Seeing Elfida's slow reaction and lethargic speech, Aldrich realized that the little witch was still in shock. The word Elfida had said caught his attention.

"Is it black?"

"Isn't it blue?"

Aldrich was sure that the beams of light in front of him were blue.

"You can see it too, right?" She brought her knees together and wrapped her arms around them. Putting her delicate chin on her knee, Elfida asked stupidly, as if trying to recover from her momentary shock.

"Yes ı can see it too but it's blue."

"This is my color."

"The blue of the ocean."

" ?????" Elfida muttered something, trying to touch the rays of light.

The beams of light looked like bits of dust, seen much more clearly as the sun began to set. Soaring lightly in the air, they were performing a consolation dance for poor souls.

"I couldn't hear what you said." Aldrich had to ask, unable to hear what Elfida was saying.

"We heard the voice-first. Then these pieces of light... Something is happening. Something is going to happen…" Elfida squinted her two eyes, which were like those of a phoenix. She stretched out his two beautiful hands into the air. Her hands continued to advance in the empty air without ever touching the light beams.

Aldrich wanted to smile when he saw Elfida's cute behavior. Fortunately, the horror of the voice still overcame his joy. His features, which were beginning to curve upward, froze as if he remembered the presence of the voice. Aldrich, whose features were rough, spoke as if he had never tired of his sarcastic tone.

" No dear?"

"Watson. Nice tips. "

''Since when did you become so cynical? Shouldn't you be a cold gentleman? ''

''I behave as I want, to whom what?''

''Hmph. Well, what should we do now, Sherlock?" Elfida grunted as she rolled her beautiful eyes.

"What should we do..." Aldrich opened his mouth as if he were saying something very obvious.

"Just Adapt. ''

''Huh?''

'What kind of reaction is that? You're like the supporting characters in the stories with a slow internet connection in their mind... What else are we going to do if we don't adapt? ''

A/N: In fact, I have written about 5 pages so far. Who knew writing a book would be this hard? My respect for writers has grown even more. I attach great importance to details. If you see any plot holes, please let me know. You can be sure that I will throw a thousand tons of soil on it.
