My name is Lu Miyang, I'm eighteen and unemployed.
Just recently I completely messed up.
Honestly, it's not my fault.....
Alright, perhaps it is a bit my fault.
I was supposed to be on my way to college right now, but because of some....ahem....unfortunate circumstances I won't be doing that.
Let's just say that my temper got the better of me so I may have, kind of, beat up some bully trying to pick a fight with me.
Well, she also got punished, though I still think it's a bit unfair.
If it weren't for her damned rich parents I'd be doing what I loved best right now.
Instead I'm lying here on this bench in an empty park at night.
With my lack of funds I have nowhere to stay and I knew no one here.
I've been in this predicament for a few weeks now and I still can't get used to it.
I'm hungry and the closest I came to food was dumpster diving.
It's truely embarrassing to even speak of this.
Is this really all I can do with my life?
My parents in heaven must be really disappointed.
"Hey, that man stole my things!"
I sat up, I hadn't even realized that I was not alone.
When did this old man appear?
I spotted a man running a few meters away already, sure enouch he had a brown paper bag on him.
I glanced around to see there was no one around to help.
Great, I guess I have no choice then.
I stood and pulled my long hair into a pony tail above my head.
It's a good thing I took track back in my first and second year of Junior High. If not then I wouldn't be able to catch up to the mugger.
I took off in a sprint towards the direction of the mugger.
I managed to catch up in a split second.
"Stay back!" The mugger yells when he spots me.
He even started throwing things back at me.
"You won't get away from me!" I yell jumping in the air and flying in his direction with my left leg stretched out landing a solid kick in the mugger's back.
He yelps and hit the ground in a tumble into a nearby tree, more like he rolled there.
One can pratically see the stars flying around his head.
I grabbed the bag of goods he dropped and immediately called 110.
After he was taken away I made my way back to the homeless man at the park.
He was quite happy to get his belongings back.
"Thank you! Here! I'll hand give you a gift for all of your help!" He says with a toothless smile.
He reached into the paperbag and pulls out a rustic key.
"Um...there's no need to pay me back." I tell him waving my hands at him.
I wanted some food or cash. What the hell. Why is he giving me a useless key?
The old man grabbed my hand and placed the key into it, "no no, I insist." He says.
I really think I have no other choice but to take it.
I turned away for just a minute to tuck the usless object into my bra, there was nowhere else to put it.
"Hey old man, do you have anything else?" I asked turning back around to face him again.
There was no one in sight.
What the hell!
There's no way he could have left that quickly, was that my imagination?
I blew out a breath, "forget it." I mutter.
I made my way back over to my park bench and sat down.
I still have nothing to eat and I was given a useless object, can this day get any worse?
I laid down on the hard bench and stared up at the moon in the night sky.
Without realizing it I slowly drifted into a dreamless sleep.
View of Lu Miyang as she sleeps. There's a glow coming from the key inside her shirt.
It flashed brightly, once it dimmed the sight of an empty bench is revealed.
The view of the old man standing behind a tree.
"Mission accomplished. I sure do think that the girl will be quite pleased with this gift." He says with a chuckle.
The man disappears into the night sky.
Meanwhile the next Day
I sat up and yawned with my arms stretched above my head.
I'm not sure what this feeling of comfort is, especially after sleeping on such a hard bench.
Wait.
I glanced down to see that beneath me there was nothing there.
When I say nothing I meant that I was surrounded by darkness.
I glanced up to find even more darkness, I couldn't see anything.
Where the hell am I?
I stood in a panic and ran towards one direction.
I felt like I was getting no where, it's an endless black space of nothingness.
Okay, calm down.
There's a really good reason for this.
I snapped my fingers together, of course!
I hit one fist into the palm of my hand.
I must be dreaming.
That's right this is all a very bad dream.
I laid down on the empty air once more and closed my eyes.
I'll lay here and when I open my eyes again I'll be back in the park.
I snapped my eyes back open and was greeted with the same empty scenery.
Did I die?
I sat back up again and made a calculation of my situation.
Alright.
I'm stuck in a weird place with no other way out.
Not only that, there's nothing but me here.
Yep, I must have kicked the bucket in my sleep.
It is the only thing I can think of.
I'm an eighteen year old who died a miserable death.
I hope someone finds my body.
