Poland's banners are flying high above the temporary camp set on a hill. Acknowledging the incoming of my foes with the number superior to us. I divide my forces into three main groups. The first one consists of my 700 Polish Guards and all of the artillery. This group will be settled on the top of the hill since it has the highest fire power as well as toughness with support from ditches and trenches. I reckon with the rates of firing from my soldiers, hundreds of the enemies will die if they try to climb this hill straight forward.
The second group is formed by the troops of the nobles who agree to support Christina. I really want to use them as expandable units since I don't want my men to suffer from high casualties. However, this can lead to disloyalty under her reign latter in case we manage to take the throne so I deploy them around the hill as the first defense line. They will suffer heavy casualties than my men, but they'll be more protected inside ditches than charging into enemy to slow down the advance so that my guards can have more killing spree with their muskets.
Anyway, the last group is my proud cavalrymen, 500 Winged Hussars and 1000 Hussars. The former is a powerful shock cavalry but if the fighting field is not flat, I can not use them to the utmost. Thus, I've ordered a flat road to be built between the defense infrastructures in the center so if the situation is needed, my men can charge downhill and cause huge shock damage to the enemies. The Hussars are divided into small groups and act as flanking and skirmishing units in left and right flank so that I can avoid sneak attacks from the direction that I do not want.
So that is the basic plan to defense, however, if the opponent chose not to attack but stay in camp as well, it will be a huge problem. Approximately 20000 Empire soldiers are heading toward Warsaw to besiege it. Here, I must have a decisive victory against the incoming enemy quickly and with low casualties. In short, my main opponent is time, not the enemy. I do not care much about the gap of numbers. Country with more soldiers not always win a war, I've read countless history books in my past world, remember thousands of famous battles. The odd is more than 2 to 1, but my men are more well-trained than the farmers who are drafted to join the newly formed Battalion.
I spend time walking around the camp, meeting the soldiers, chatting with them, eating and drinking the same thing. I really miss Abigail's warmth and charming body but I'm in the middle of a campaign, with my wife. It'll be a suicide if I try to bring a woman into my tent. However, my actions have set examples for the soldiers and the discipline in the army raises remarkably and the morale of the men as well.
One time when I'm sitting on the wall watching the peaceful sky with countless stars, which I can not observe on Earth due to light pollution. Christina comes to my side, she asks me a weird question:
- You know that the odds against you in this war is extremely high. Why do you still fight? Every men in the North Arcadia tremble in fear when they hear about the Roseryth Empire.
After thinking for a while, I raise her up above my head and ask her:
- Have a look around yourself, Christina? Far and wide. What do you see?
- It's just hills and hills.
- Yes but no, when I sit here, I see a vision, a vision of a whole Arcadia will be united under a common cause, a religion, a ruler and a country. I want to end the era of countries fighting each other, I want to end the era where young wives have to mourn their husbands, parents have to burry their sons and countless innocents die under the conflicts between the countries. In the world I build, children will have chances to study, play , not working on the farms and factories days and nights. That's what I'm fighting for, my dear. I can let myself back down at any moment; I will move forward, until I reach my dream or it destroys me.
After those words, I let her down and pat on her head slightly before I leave. I do not know that at this moment when I confess myself, in Christina's heart appeared a immeasurable admire for me and she'll continue to be like that until the rest of her life.
The enemies appear on the field three days later, I meet their commander in the ground between the two armies. He is a old man with some scars and a fat belly, a typical figure for any nobles. I do not see Priam, Christina's brother, I really do want to hope him so that I can insult him a little bit. Priam the Usurper, Priam the Father Killer, with only his name, I can mock him endlessly. Never mind, I'll give him death anyway. Killing the people who give birth to you is the unforgivable crime.
The Roserythian commander spill out some shits like surrender and bend the kneel to him so that I'll received mercy for my ''humiliation'. I'm just quiet and enjoy myself while he is talking with himself about the greatness of the Empire and how he will crush me if I do not surrender. Like I will, when he stops talking, I just give him a handcrafted woman silk dress and tell him:
- Meet me again on the battlefield and you'll see my sword putting on your neck. If you and your cowardice army is scared, just stay under the protection of your camps, my lady.
The last word I use the voice when I flirt with Abigail. Certainly, it has made him mad, his face becomes red like a hot tomato. I just laugh out loud and then leave.
Like I predict, the enemies attack right after 3 hours.
