As they began eating their breakfast, Olivia started a conversation with her nephew, "So, little Kallan, what do you want to become in the future?"
"I want to be just like father, a strong mage that can protect him and you, Aunt Olivia," The boy, now named Kallan, answered honestly.
"Are you sure? Is there something else besides being like your father?" Olivia asked another question.
"Hmm, unless father wants me to become something else, I would comply because I know he'll be there for me," Kallan replied with a smile.
As they finished eating their breakfast, Edvoid left them to do their business, not before telling his son that they'll be going to the capital later to buy him the book he wanted once his done. Right after he said that, Kallan became excited and dragged his aunt towards the garden of their house to play.
*Time skip*
It was almost afternoon when Edvoid called for his son as they were about to head to the capital. Kallan quickly went back to his room to change into something more appropriate as to not tarnish their name while in public.
After changing, he went with his father and auntie as they took a carriage to the nearest portal that will take them to the capital. Since the war, technology went a long way as the rise of artificers mixed the use of magic with everyday devices, such as appliances and transportation. Portals were one of its leading inventions powered by the element of Space, which is found in another realm as small crystals that can be mined, or inside of Cosmic Beasts that were hunted by hunters who hunt for a living.
As their carriage slowly entered the portal, they soon exited it and were now in the region of the capital. Kallan was evidently excited as he looks outside the window to see different races walking by, doing their own business. He saw elves walking in a department store, he also saw dwarves working in a nearby smithy, and some druids healing a child who scraped his knee.
After the war, their realm entered an era of peace and harmony with each other. The different races formed a pact to never wage war against each other for a better environment for future generations. They also made the law about exterminating any Variants that still exist, to avoid history repeating itself.
As they reached their destination, they bought the book Kallan wanted so much from the bookstore, then they took a rest on a bench in the nearby park.
As Kallan was joyfully reading his new book with his Aunt Olivia, a hooded figure approached Edvoid and whispered something to him as his face turned grim.
Then an explosion occured where the hooded figure was standing, but Edvoid casted a defensive spell that protected them at the last second.
"Take him as far away from here, I'll handle this," Edvoid ordered Olivia, and she nodded before grabbing Kallan's hand as they run away from the scene.
As the smoke cleared, it revealed the hooded figure to be a Fire Mage, "Who ordered you to do this in public," Edvoid demanded. The Fire Mage didn't respond as he casted a spell, prompting Edvoid to do the same.
As they began exchanging spells, Edvoid could only think of one name inside his head: Vandrill. A Magma Mage and rival of his who wanted his position in the council. He also found out that his son was a Variant, so he tried attacking them in public to exploit it.
(With Olivia and Kallan)
As they were running away, Olivia started chanting the partial sealing spell to Kallan's powers, while the boy looked over his shoulder to see his father having a magic duel to the death with the unknown assailant.
Unknown to them, another mage, this one being Psychic, was tailing them while casting a spell. Olivia quickly spotted her and tried to minimize the spell in a way of artificially making memories.
Once she was done, the spell finally took effect and all Kallan could remember was his father's face getting burned before finally fainting. Unknown to him, this will be his final memory of his father and the start of another person's uneventful life.
