- Arc 1: My Beginning in the End -
Chapter 1: Last Borderline
'This is it Ra,' a young man who could very well be the best looking person you had ever seen spoke. His long black hair that fades into blue at the tips, pulled back into a low pony, flowing in the morning wind. His mint green eyes sparkled as he gazed out at the city, from his place on the balcony.
[ There are 2 minutes and 14 seconds before the first zombie appears. 13 seconds. 12 seconds. 11 seconds… ]
Ra continued counting in Adrian's head, as Adrian chose to just ignore the young System. This was the first world he had stayed in since birth, actually it was his first time as a baby, and this was also his first time working with Ra. Ra was pretty naive, as well as cute and silly at times, but when he it came to his job he was completely serious. There probably wasn't another system so in love with his job than Ra.
Adrian had been in this world for just over 22 years now and had come to love many things in this world, including standing in the morning wind and gazing out at the city. Adrian was pretty much a loner, it was hard making connections knowing that while that person grew old and died, you'd continue on living, but Ava made it into Adrian's heart almost immediately.
Ava was Adrian's only family in this life. Just after Adrian was born the two were dropped off at an orphanage and left behind. Ava has always had a weak immune system and was utterly frail, but she had the most beautiful smile Adrian had ever seen and made it her mission to let Adrian live happily.
Both Ra and Adrian had found it pretty ironic considering their mission was exactly that, to live happily. But six years ago, when Adrian was sixteen and already providing for the two with his intelligence and skills, Ava had passed away and there was nothing Adrian could do. He knew that every life had a set birth and death date before they were even created, but it couldn't stop Adrian from trying to find any way to let her live.
Adrian knew better than anyone the rules of the stings of life, precisely because he was an existence without one. Before when he went to different worlds as a cannon fodder counterattack Executor, it didn't matter if he really counterattacked or not, the Host would always die at their time of death in the original timeline, and if they couldn't die the same way, they'd die some other way.
So Ava passed on and Adrian's heart hurt, but he got through it like he always had. He had even gotten a beautiful hummingbird tattoo behind/below his right ear, and in his own cursive black ink writing sat her name just below that. He often found himself rubbing the tattoo with his hand when he was sad, or just missing her. One could certainly tell how important Ava had been to Adrian in this life.
[ First zombie will appear and start biting people in 58 seconds. ]
"I hear you Ra. I'm going now," Adrian said, as he gracefully leaped over the balcony of the second floor. It was still pretty early in the morning and even though the sun was peaking through the tree line most people weren't awake, making Adrian go completely unnoticed.
He landed just as elegantly and gracefully as he jumped and found himself staring at the last borderline on his checklist. The borderline was silvery-blue in color and when you looked at it, it was almost like looking at glass. You knew something was there, but other than the dust and dirt on the glass, you could see through it perfectly fine, or in this case there wasn't dust nor dirt, just a silvery-blue shine. He chose this to be his last borderline because this certain one was one of only twenty-five in the entire world, and the only one of it's kind in his country, the Barrier borderline.
He had collected nine others from around the world during these last seven months, as well as 270 others. He was currently at 279 and once he passed through this last borderline he'd be at a complete 280—28 different powers, all at level 10, and this final one was the Barrier borderline in his very own country, Sivera.
[ Please pass through the borderline within 30 seconds or it won't matter how compatible your body is because it will be gone. ]
'I know, Ra, don't worry,' Adrian thought with a light chuckle and smile. Ra may be rude, but it's just his way of caring. Most of the time he's not rude, though, he just cares of his job and the goals we decided on together.
[ 18 seconds, 17 seconds, 16 seconds… ]
And with that Adrian passed through his final borderline and when he turned around to glance at where the borderline once stood, he saw no trace that it once remained. With a smile he went back to listening to Ra count.
[ 7 seconds, 6 seconds, 5 seconds, 4 seconds, 3 seconds, 2 seconds, 1 second, 0 seconds, the first zombie has appeared and the world's remaining borderlines have disappeared. Artifacts are in creation. Please wait 15 seconds, 14 seconds, 13 seconds, 12 seconds… ]
Once Ra had finished counting down for the first time, Adrian felt an immense wave of heat hit his body and immediately he was overtaken with cold. Adrian flipped between burning and freezing and after Ra finished counting for the second time and his body returned to a normal temperature, he was covered in sweat.
Soon after his body glowed in a blinding light and he found himself completely clean and in a new outfit, with twin swords strapped to his back, and jewelry adorning his body. If he looked heaven defying before, then he looked far more than divine now. His skin, which was already flawless to begin with became even softer and stronger, his hair, which previously went to his shoulders, was now to his mid back, and he could even feel the strength coursing through his body. He stretched a little and realized just how much more flexible and stronger his body was now, and his blood-red lips upturned into a sexy, heart-stopping smile.
He the thought about his look and how he'd probably be arrested if someone saw his swords and almost immediately, the swords and their sheaths changed into two paired pocket knives that could easily fit into his pants pockets. With a smile he made his way to his car and started towards the group of warehouses that held everything he had collected before the end. He had spent years filling the warehouses with things and their was an unbelievable amount of things: machinery, food, clothing, toiletries, vehicles, etc…
It would take a little over two hours to get there, but the first zombie wouldn't appear in his country for the next three, and just as he thought, no news spread throughout the country where the first zombie was found, but more kept popping up and quickly.
After a long drive of humming and singing along to the radio, as well as talking with Ra, Adrian eventually found himself in front of the warehouses. There were seven in total, each could hold two football fields, and they all just so happened to be packed full. He quickly walked through them and everywhere he passed, mountains of the things disappeared. Everything was sent into his space, the small gold hoop earring hanging from his right lobe.
The whole thing only took about fifteen minutes and Adrian had about forty-five before everyone started turning into cannibals. Adrian found it pretty funny how in the movies zombies sprung up from the ground, but in real life they turned the living into their own, while those lying six feet under ground stayed there.
He quickly got back into his car and started driving around the countryside. He quickly stopped in an empty meadow and started working on with abilities. It wasn't hard and even though they were all new and overpowered at level 10, he easily got them under perfect control. He had abilities like these in some of his previous worlds and knew different tricks to handle them more effectively.
He could now use all his powers the way he wanted: fire, water, lightning, ice, wind, air, flight, earth, wood, mental, space, domain, metal, shadow, gravity, healing, tamer, time, poison, blood, vibration, sound, tunnel, dark, barrier, tracking, echolocation, and scan.
He spent a little over a minute on each one and soon enough Ra spoke. [ The first zombie has appeared in Silvera, more have now begun popping up. ]
