Where are you packing your bags to, young lady? "I heard my Mom ask as I looked behind me to see her leaning on the entrance of my room...
It's been hours since I came back home after the little visit to my sister's and since then my Mom and I haven't exchanged any words...
Fortunately, she was already asleep when I tiptoed in like a teenager who was just sneaking back home after a night party with some friends... I wasn't in the mood to talk with her at that moment
But here she was again, trying to get on my nerves..
"To San Francisco" I responded still folding my jeans into my suitcase
Trying to run away from me again? "She asked
Everytime I packed my bags to travel...my Mom will think I'm running away....
From the minute I got a scholarship to travel out to go to college to the second I did my interior designing internship..
"Why do you always say that when I begin to pack a bag Mom?!" I shouted as I banged my suitcase shut and looked at her...
From the looks on her face, she wasn't expecting that sudden outburst from me but I was sick and tired of her nonsense assumptions..
"I'm going for an internship programme that I was assigned to head in San Francisco!!"I screamed as I raked my fingers through my hair..
Happy now?" I asked as I gave her a fake smile and resumed what I was doing
"Don't you dare shout on your mother!!" She said instead not feeling remorsefully of what she said..
"This is why Dad left" I muttered under my breath..
What did you just say?" She asked me even though she heard me loud and clear...
"Dad left because you always jumped into conclusions without thinking, Mom!!"I said it to her face without a single sign of emotion on my face..she needed to hear the truth...
I looked at her as I saw a trail of tears fall from her eyes and she hurriedly wiped it off....
I just walked into my bathroom and picked up some toiletries of mine and stuffed them all Into one of my bags as I heard my mom footsteps disappear from my room...
I sat back on my bed and huffed"what the hell have you done, Winter?" I asked myself as I regretted what I said the minute it came out
I knew how annoying my mom could be but I had definitely crossed the line
I couldn't sleep at all as I rolled on my bed with an empty stomach and a disturbed mind
Normally, my mom was gonna be in here trying to read a bedtime story to 27 years old me by now..
After a few minutes, I yanked off the huge blanket on me and slipped my feet into my flip-flops
I headed to the fridge and turned up a glass from the dishwasher, then poured myself a glass of water...
I heard the light switch flip on as I immediately tried to adjust my eyes to the bright light that shone into the sitting room
I saw my mom by the entrance if the door, with her long red robe on .
"You hungry?" She asked instead walking towards me
"Have a seat, I will whip up something in a jiffy" she said taking me by surprise....it was pretty rare to see my mom act like this....
Mom! You don't have to"I said trying to protest
But she gave me the " behave while I'm still tryna be nice" look and I caught on immediately...I quietly sat back as I watched her work in the kitchen...
Not quite too long, I sat down with a plate of chicken wings and a glass of apple juice right in front of me...
My mom was busy scanning through the television for any interesting channels while I ate quietly..
I'm really sorry Mom, I kinda overreacted a little bit today"I said remorsefully as I sat down on the edge of the couch..
It's fine honey,"she said
Besides you were just telling the truth"she added
No I wasn't, I was just angry that my thoughts over clouded my emotions..
Dad didn't deserve you,he left because he's a coward"I reassured her as I reached out to hold her hands as tears had already began to roll down her cheeks...
Who cares if you jump Into conclusions or shout on top of your voice?"I said as a smile creeped on my face
It's one of the things that makes you"I said as I hugged her tightly and watched as her tears soaked my pajamas but I was bothered as I didn't want to leave her tommorow on a bad note..
The next morning...
I waved goodbye to my Mom who was already awake so early in the morning to see me off
"Don't bother taking me to the airport Mom,I ain't 16 anymore.. just get some sleep"I reassured her as I got into the awaiting cab in front of my house
As the cab drove into the airport,I looked at my time..to see that I had made it on time before the appointed time...
Yera airlines, take your left.."the receptionist said as I showed her my flight ticket and passport..
I got into the plane and located my seat...as I tried to load my luggage on the upper part of the plane,I bumped into someone
"I'm sorry" I apologized but the lady was too busy with her head phones on her ears tucked away on her brunette hair, I couldn't see her face because she had turned her back on me, I looked at the beautiful green suitcase with a unique puppy design on it that she trailed behind her and smiled
"I love the color green too" I thought and it's not because my last name is Green
I sat down on my seat and pulled out the company's magazine and had my earpods on as the plane took off at once heading to San Francisco...
I looked out through the window, and sighed.."be healthy Mom" I muttered as I concluded that I would call Juliana once I got off the plane to persuade her to go visit Mom at least till I was done with the internship programme
