Chapter 4 - Prologue IV: Freedom, at a Cost

Liam was mesmerized by the sight he saw in front of him. From the manic throwing and subsequent explosions of the many potions his captor flung towards the two intruders, or the myriad of arcane spells that blasted forth from the 2 invaders, it was truly a scene to behold. 'This power... It's unlike anything I have seen before.' Liam thought. 'With such power, you could blast away any obstacles in your way... if I had this power back in A City...'Lamented Liam, as he thought back on the battles he had fought in his time as a gangster. He had to fight tooth and nail for every little advantage in order to secure his victory. However with the power that these individuals were exhibiting, it was clear that human wave tactics could not win in this mysterious world, where the power of One could overpower the strength of Many.

On Earth, a person could exercise 7 days a week, become muscular and strong, arm himself with an Ak-47 and 'become' strong, but could be easily defeated by a well coordinated team of police officers, or even a stray bullet through his head. Thus the mortal world adopted human wave tactics, building large armies and arming them with deadly weapons to siege wars. Since the potential of a single person was so low, it was foolish to spend too much time and effort on the quality of your firepower rather than the quantity of it. Liam craved this power, the power to dominate others not through false threats and large weapons, but sheer intrinsic might.

'Truly, this is a beautiful world... Now, if only I could experience it...' Liam pondered, planning his great escape. His captor was so focused on fighting he had begun to forget about Liam's existence. 'Perhaps I can roll my way out of the cave, and then figure out how to escape my confinement.' Liam had found out very early on that he could push against the glass walls, causing the ball to move. It was just that previously, the crystal ball was placed onto a holder, making it very difficult to move the ball. However, his captor had removed his restraints and placed him onto the table, giving him an avenue to enact his escape.

Pushing against the glass barrier, the crystal ball fell from the table and began rolling on the floor. Slowly, a lonely crystal ball made its way out of the cave.

It rolled passed the doorway, exiting the room it was in...

It snuck past his captor, who was too focused on fighting for his life to bother about a wayward fortune telling device...

It rolled through the battlezone, narrowly avoiding the many spells and potions that whizzed past it at high speeds...

It passed the two intruders, who had more important things to pay attention to, such as avoiding the deadly cocktails...

Rolling out of the cave, Liam sighed in relief. From now on, he was a free man! A lifetime of adventure and mystery awaits! Just as Liam congratulated himself for escaping such a harrowing ordeal, he heard a loud cry of anguish from below. Turning around to observe what was going on, he was greeted with a massive flash of light, as if he were staring down the muzzle of a cannon.

With a large explosive BOOOM! the crystal ball was sent flying outwards, travelling around 100 meters away before smashing onto the forest floor.

CRACK! The crystal ball shattered, letting go of its sole captive, Liam

"I'm freeee! Hahahaha! Even my prison no longer shackles me! Watch out world! Liam is here!" Screaming in exhilaration, Liam truly felt liberated. He had been whisked away to a foreign land only to be imprisoned upon arrival. Due to language barriers he had no choice but to endure his sentence in relative solitude. Hence Liam felt his release from his confinement extra special.

In the midst of celebration, Liam suddenly felt an oppressive feeling, as if the world did not welcome his arrival. All of a sudden, he felt and oppressive force come crashing down onto him, crushing him from all directions. As it squeezed down on him, Liam slowly started to lose consciousness. Liam realised that this oppressive force was slowly killing him, making his soul slowly dissipate. In panic, Liam flew forwards into the dense underbrush.

Popping out from the otherside, Liam found himself along a road. At this point, his mind was flitting in and out of consciousness. There was no conscious thought that was engaged within his mind. As a result, the instincts of a ghost started to kick in as he floated down the road.At this point the sun was slowly rising from the horizon, colouring the sky in a myriad of beautiful colours. Travelling for around 2 minutes, Liam saw multiple carriages parked in a rough semicircle beside the road. With his instincts he found that there were multiple life signatures within most of the carriages. Relying on this information, he found the one with the weakest life signature, as the stronger the life of the creature, the more difficult to possess it was. By observation, ghostly Liam found that the carriage on the third from the right has the weakest life signature. With that, he floated into the carriage...

At this point, Liam was only slightly larger than the size of a fist. The oppressive pressure of the world onto a foreign being was no joke. It was lucky that due to how weak Liam's soul was, being a regular mortal, the world did not pay too much attention to him, hence he was able to last so long. Diving into the carriage, he noticed the individual with the weak life signature. It was a young man, who was currently so bruised and battered he was barely breathing. His face had a strange green complexion, leading Liam to believe that he was poisoned. However the Liam that was currently operating wasn't the cool and collected Mob Boss from A City, it was the raw instinct that any wayward soul would have, no smarter than a beast. So as poor of a choice this man was, it was the target that Liam had chosen. Without any fanfare, Liam dove into the young man's body...
