Chapter 1 - The laughing house

The world as we know it has changed nothing makes sense anymore, I woke up around an hour ago but I can't be sure because all the clocks are ticking backward here. I walked around for a while but it seemed that even though I can see the house in front of me I'm not getting anywhere close to the house, when I stepped on the grass I realized why I wasn't getting anywhere, the sidewalk was moving backward like a conveyor belt.

I was stunned but kept going forward traveling on the grass this time, finally making it to the only house occupied on the street. There was laughing and music coming from the house when I looked through the window many people were celebrating in there it was like a Christmas party in there but I remember it was still summer when I fell asleep, I got up the guts to knock on the door. No one answered the door so I opened it stepping in the doorway I felt unsettled realizing it was dead silent and no one was in the house now. I stepped fully into the house shutting it behind mean me hoping it goes back to how it was when I was watching from the outside but I didn't change. The silence was killing me, it was like I was in a bubble and all I could hear was my heartbeat at that moment.

I took this opportunity to walk around the house observing everything that I laid my eyes on, I stopped in front of a wall of pictures that were all upside down and of different sizes. They were all copies of the same thing, a field of daisies with a singular pink balloon hovering in the middle of the field.

It didn't make much sense to me but it oddly calms me, watching the balloon sway in the picture around the field.

Was this Normal?

This should be freaking me out but I found it oddly calming and kind of childlike, Atlee pulled away from the picture frame glancing out the window realizing it was already night out.

How much time has passed?

My mind was already racing wondering where everyone went until I heard a giggle, a singular pink balloon floated around the corner. Voices got louder as I approached it instinctively grabbing the string that was dangling from the balloon that's when everything switched on like a light.

The house was filled with people and laughter again, just like what I witnessed outside. It smelled like gingerbread and spiced rum on Christmas. I decided to walk around, balloon in hand trying not to run into anyone. The people seemed happy but couldn't stop laughing like they were on laughing gas. My ears started to hurt decided it was time to leave the house, I walked to the door trying not to bump into anyone finally making it there. I turned back one last time still hearing the laughing but they all were facing me, chills running down my back making me leave the house without a word.

I walked away from the house a little bit still hearing the laughing from inside causing me to let go of the balloon, I watched the balloon float away then disappear.

It went completely silent, I looked back at the house realizing no one was there anymore.

No more laughing.
